There's just too big of a log jam of mediocre players on bad contracts on the big club right now. I expect much of that to be resolved in the next calendar year though, be it by trade or contracts expiring. We should be looking one more year until this team starts trying to turn things around. We don't want our top prospects playing in a losing environment every night. Playing in Grand Rapids allows them an opportunity to play in a winning environment, while also gaining chemistry playing together. I don't see these moves extending the rebuild at all. If anything, it may speed things up by possibly getting a higher draft pick next June in a(nother) huge draft for this team. Hopefully we can make a trade or two at the deadline that will get us another mid 1st round pick...

Risto would be expensive...and while he's a gifted offensive guy, he's lousy in his own end. I don't think he's worth what Buffalo will be looking for. If the Wings were going to add a veteran Dman, it should've been someone like Gardiner. Doesn't make a bunch of sense to give up picks + prospects just to help the Wings suck a little less. Plus it'd just be another guy blocking the kids that are ready.

Me neither... I disagree with this. If we're giving Seider a 9 game look at some point this season, I'd much prefer it to be towards the end of the season. Let's see what he can do in a very strong American league. If he dominates (I don't think he will), then call him up. If he struggles (possible), it's better for him to struggle in GR than in DET...

I don't mind how the off-season has gone necessarily. There's just nothing fresh going on up there in the office. I don't mind tanking. I don't even mind signing Nemeth and Fil. But you start the season with your best players on the roster. In every scenario that should involve Seider. The first time you think about sending him to GR should be after those 9 games. How's Seider handling it? How's his play? How's the teams play? Than you sink him if you feel it wise. The loser here is Seider. A more modern NHL team would be playing this kid.

I'm not convinced you're being serious. But he'll get his 9 games at some point. Yzerman is def. taking a very Holland-like approach. A very conservative one. But I had zero issues with how Kenny was running shop the last 2 or 3 years so it would be hypocritical of me to rake Yzerman's ballz over the coals right now.

Sprong is a player I was hoping we would have picked up last year when he was on the block. I'd prefer to give him a shot on the 3rd line in place of Ehn (over Ho-Sang)...

Never heard of any "waiver queue" either. The team with the worst record gets the player if multiple claims are made, but there's no queue to my knowledge. I know there's a transfer fee that the claiming team must pay to the team that waived the player, but it doesn't count against the cap anyway.

I've never heard of that... As far as I know, that's not how it works... The last place team can claim 7 players off waivers as long as they don't exceed the 50-man roster limit. At least that's how I think it works...

You lose your waiver position. I'd rather wait for better value deeper in the season.

I have read that. Probably not someone that Yzerman would be interested in. But it’s a low risk move. Claim him. Play him ten games as a try-out. Maybe being waived can be a wake-up call. Maybe he answeres up to a new enviroment. If it doesn’t work out. No loss. And as you mentioned we have guys that can sit.

The damage the salary cap has done to this organization is worth at least the first three picks in the 2020 draft.

Just ordered the AHL package for the season to go along with the NHL package... I never miss a Wings game, and that may be the case (or close to it) for the Griffins this season... Stacked with prospects, Rasmussen, Veleno, Zadina, Svechnikov, Kuffner, Smith, Pearson, Turgeon, Seider, Kaski, Lindstrom, Larsson... It may be a painful season in Detroit, but should be a fun season in Grand Rapids...

If he keeps going at 4 shots/pg he will have 320 shots a season at 12% shooting percentage is good for 38 goals There is nothing in a trade like that what would make me think of it. 5" taller and 30 pounds more, a real good shot, good skater, an absolute beast trading for a guy who then will be playing for his third team in 5 years? No way I would trade a 30 goal scorer with his physics for a guy like Drouin.
