I need a win and get into playoffs as I jumped the gun and got tat showing the Wings won the 2024 Stanley cup tat on my chest. Lose this one and I might need to have it lazered off. Perhaps the combo of a Scott GDT and the Patch is a sign for the team to be garbage. We win and I anoint Troy for future GDTs we lose then F it and we blame the patch. Wings pull their heads out of their collective arses get back to basics and win 5 - 1 in last 2 minutes we have a dandy fight between RayRay and Ben giving both a Gordie Hattie

Neither Chiarot nor Petry are especially good defensively. Petry should be a 7th defenseman and Chiarot should be paired with someone who can actually defend. Also, it wouldn't kill Chiarot to actually play physical (with someone other than Raymond) once in a while. The two most frustrating things about this team's play (not roster construction) are their half-assed passing and their absolute unwillingness to finish a goddamn check. If you're not counted on to score you better be grinding guys down. I have to think that Derek doesn't want guys doing it because there's no other reason why Ras, Veleno, Fischer, Copp, Chiarot, Petry, Maatta, Walman, or Fabbri don't finish checks. It drives me absolutely crazy.

Agreed. And it's not like we don't have the guys to do it. Sure Raymond, Debrincat, and Kane aren't going to run anyone, but guys like Sprong, Ras, Fischer, Copp, and Veleno sure as well should be able to. Those are big, strong dudes. I'd have had all our forecheckers running guys and Klim Kostin in the lineup every night to make sure anybody who gets butthurt about it can catch a beating too. Anybody remember this:

Morning coffee and conversation with Troy(hello podcast)(had work not interfered) I think they were trying to pull in/create a black fan base with those picks. I don't remember seeing a big outreach like Kane etc being seen at Hawks games and working to do crossover attraction but then again I am old so might be wrong on that point. Or any of them featured in local commercials for instance If I were to rank the sports fans down here on average as far as their priority in rooting for a team today. College football is dominant and elevated to degrees I had never seen before moving here. B10 ain't got nothing with the rabid obsessiveness for the SEC. 1. UGA 2. Bama 3. Braves 4. Falcons 5. Hawks 6. United Not saying a UGA/BAMA fan isn't invested in the Falcons but only because they are the same game and they can understand it. Atlanta is a HUGE ***** to get downtown and to get to the arena they played at was a nightmare. So a lot of the folks in the suburbs wouldn't bother to fight the traffic unless OUR team was playing. A true hockey fan wont flip teams IMHO no matter where we live we are not going to veer away from the Wings(present streak disregarded). Didn't help when your Allstar Heatley killed a teammate in a crash. Your potential fanbase saw hockey as only fighting and had no clues about the game. I remember they would run Hockey 101 classes to try to have people understand that icing is not a penalty. The ownership group was pretty much a disaster and rumor was once they bought the Hawks/Thrashers they were looking to unload the Thrashers. So maybe the way the new expansion teams work now it might be possible. But they would have to build outside of what's called the perimeter which is where 285 goes around the city much like they have done with the battery. Which is where the Braves play and its pretty cool area concert venue crap-ton of restaurants etc. Funny thing is one of my son in laws plays hockey and has since he was little. So at least one of my daughters picked the right guy! Last year his club team was ......The Red Wings... lol

Yeah because buying out Yamamoto and eating Simek for a 7th is regarded. Rather just keep Kostin down the stretch. Either buy some aid or sell our valued pieces. I still like Ben. Hes been shaky the last few games, but hes been eating big minutes for this team all year. Petry was a mistake, and Ben would be better IMO with a decent partner.

Scott brings up very valid points though. Just at this current moment they’re moot because it’s not happening this year, we have who we have. IF we make the playoffs maybe we will adjust Petry at the very least-but he’s more than right, playing him and Chiarot together is incredibly ridiculous. I’ve defended Ben all year, but it’s clearly not good.

I’ve been keeping my DeBrincat jersey tucked away in the back of my closet since it arrived back in August. My initial plan was pull it out IF/WHEN we made the playoffs-but it does seem we need the good juju now, so today it’s officially out in the world. IMO, each time there's expansion there should be 2. Keep this crap even, odd number teams screw up playoffs. Also fug the expansion draft. I hate when that comes around. It seems teams get to protect less players each time. Although I know the last 2 have been the same. Another good reason to keep middle of the road aging vets on the team!

Houston, QC, Salt Lake, Atlanta.... What happens when we reach 40 teams? Is it good for the sport or dilution? I mean guys like Cory Emmerton might suddenly gain careers, and good for them... but does the league start to become a joke when we don't even play rivals more than twice a year? Or play some teams only once or not at all? Part of me thinks Gary and the boys are ignoring the long term consequences because of the warchest being presented to them by expansion groups.

These crybabies complained about losing their buddies last year at the deadline. Yzerman needs to go full Tywin Lannister on these fools in the future.

at this point, all may be lost. We have fallen out of the playoffs, when just 2 weeks ago we were 12 points in a spot. Can't sell now, so what can we do to make next year better? It's of utmost importance to get Kane convinced that next season is going to be THE season we make some noise. We have to convince him that we are going to trim the garbage and upgrade the team from outside and within! Get this man signed ASAP! I'd keep Fischer around as well, although he might not want to stay. Here are my subtractions, and by any means necessary. Perron - Walk, he is just too old and his skill is diminishing. I would welcome a coaching role though. Sprong - Walk, he's had the last 6 games to prove he is worth a big payday and that he can carry a team, he's failed. Let someone else pay him. Fabbri - Trade, this has come to an end. He is no longer top 9 material and we have better prospects or can replace him via UFA. Ghost - Walk, it was fun while it lasted. Again, a chance to carry a team on his shoulders and he failed. He does have 42 points though ...so, maybe? Holl - Trade, at whatever the return, it just has not worked out. Chiarot - Trade, while a bit better this season, just not going to be justified keeping his cap hit. Petry - Buyout, not worth keeping, even for a 7th guy. Time to retire, Peaches. Reimer - Walk, no explanation necessary Husso - Trade, he is not a starting goalie and he has become injury prone. I'd even consider buying out his last year. Ok, additions (re-sign) to make this team a playoff team: Kane - Obviously. Fischer - Re-sign, very serviceable 4th liner. Seider, Raymond, Veleno - Re-sign, first two obviously, but I'd have Veleno on a short lease. He's my first casualty next season if we get bad again. Berggren, (Mazur or Kasper), Edvinsson, Johansson - Promote permanently I don't think we're going to be able to afford to sign a top UFA D or G, these will have to come via trade. Although I would try hard for Hanfin, but I feel he's going to Boston. Chychrun, Ullmark, Saros, Andersson, there's just too many options and these all depend on availability. There are a lot of interesting UFA forwards that we could upgrade to, but it's going to cost money! That is why trading the contracts above will be a necessity. Few examples for top 6: Stamkos - I'd try to coax him away, he would slot right in our top 6 opposite Raymond with Compher at C. (or does he actually play C? ) Geuntzel, Bertuzzi, Tarasenko Middle 6: DeBrusk, Foegele, Roslovic, even Mantha, just to name a few. We're going to be a lottery team again, hopefully we can get a top 10 pick.
