Bertuzzi a Duck: 2-Years, $8M

They wore the Wings down with their physicality and borderline cheapness.

Wore them down? The Wings were one minute, and a terrible turnover away from winning game 5, and were so worn out that they almost made a miraculous comeback in game 6.

Any objective person would say that the series could have gone either way.

What'd they win last year? That's right, nothing. The same will hold true next year. Maybe we have different goals. I want the Wings to win the Cup. Couldn't care less about getting the President's trophy or winning the division. This team is too soft to win the cup. That REALLY bugs me. Why not find a weakness and address it? What happened against the Ducks? They wore the Wings down with their physicality and borderline cheapness. You think that won't happen again if they play?

The Wings were the victims of some seriously s***ty bounces. The Ducks didn't wear us down. Not at all.

He was coming off BACK SURGERY!!! Do you have any idea of how painfull is first 7-8 months after that surgery???

He's been awful ever since he punched Moore. He'll still put up good points, but seriously, ask Vancouver fans. They couldn't wait until he was gone, and I agree with them after seeing him play here.

Am I the only one that's missing how the Ducks can afford to sign these guys???? I just don't see how they have any more cash than anyone else - esp with their roster. Schneider and Bertuzzi leaving must mean that neither Niedermayer OR Selanne are coming back.....

Anyhow, I was so-so on signing Bertuzzi. I just don't know how he's going to hold up and he's not the player he used to be. But the Ducks - wtf again? Burke has some personal vendetta against the Wings for some reason.......hopefully it comes back to bite him in the ass....

I like how everyone continues to doubt Holland and co., even though he's probably the best GM in the league, and always has a plan and knows what he's doing. He's not stupid. The organization is in good hands.

I can't help but think that this is what William Clay Ford Jr. thinks about Matt Millen :scared:

The Ducks and Sharks have both gotten worse thus far, while the Wings have gotten better. Everyone calm down.

I agree ... that sharks and ducks got worst then last year... but we didnt get that much better ... yes we upgrade over schneids ... we lost bertuzzi lang and calder so that means for sure its an upgrade over last year lool ... so i think if we re-sign markov or 1 more physical defensemen top 4 we should be the best defensive team in the league ... dont you think?

I read somewhere that teams can go over the cap until a certain date when they have to be under so they can still go hog wild for awhile.

and for people that think bertuzzi left now we cant beat teams like calgary and san jose or anaheim think again...

we beat calgary and san jose ... without kronwall (top 4 defensmen) wich his probably our only defensemen that is not scared to go for a hit after markov ... and we almost beat anaheim without 2 of our top 4 defensemen ... bertuzzi didnt do s*** he was pretty much a floater ... anyways wasnt he the one that gave the puck away ... to anaheim or something like that happened ... better for us i hope we use the money else where ...

On the paper??? He's not even top 4 in NHL 07...

So Hasek, Markov, and Zubrus/Kozlov now sign :)

Forget Markov. It's time to bring in some new blood to the defense, whether it be Kindl, Meech, Quincey, or my personal choice, Ericsson. Markov was solid but unspectacular.

As for Bertuzzi, well, I'd have liked to see him stay, but there are other options out there. Why get worked up? Bertuzzi certainly did not make or break the Wings in the playoffs.

I'd like to thank you--you've convinced me to forgo wasting time on people like you this season.

Sorry I don't have the same rosey opinion as you. I've been frustrated by the lack of toughness on this team for years. I hate seeing the goalie run and no one doing about it. I hate seeing guys blasted from behind (Lebda) and nothing done about it. Babcock has mentioned numerous times that the Wings need to be harder to play against. Last year I got excited because they actually added some gritty guys to the lineup. I was thinking if they kept them and then Kopecky got a full season in and Franzen continued to develop............................. I was totally excited about next year.

For you to say you're going to ignore me all year because we don't agree on one thing borders on ridiculous.

Feel free to explain to me how in a seven game series the Wings won't be beaten up, bloodied, and beaten by these two HUGE teams. I'm sorry, I've seen the Wings get pushed around year after year in the playoffs and I see no reason to believe that won't happen again. The reason they advanced so far this year, and no one can argue this, is because of their grit. Babcock keeps saying the Wings need to get grittier and he's doing his best to make them that way. Wouldn't it be easier to do that with guys who are gritty? You and I have had this discussion since 2002 on here and I've still yet to see a cup.

No one was ever afraid of Yzerman's physicality but he personifies the grit needed to win. Not Bertuzzi, not Pronger, not May, no one like that. But Yzerman. Grit has nothing to do with dishing out punishment, but being willing to take it and keep moving forward. Grit is entirely mental. We came as far as we did because a lot of our guys realized that they were gritty. We didn't lose because we weren't gritty enough or big enough. We lost because we didn't get the bounces that winners get.

from your fingers to God's ears... may Burke and his Yuckies not make it out of round 1.

Retire, Teemu. You got your Cup, now get the hell outta there.

You know what....stop bashing Bert for his performance. He played injured the whole time. Giving him a summer to recover he could be a really, really great asset to the team. At times we caught glimpses of what he will be like...

How annoying that we could have had him and now we have no one.

I agree with the s***ty bounces and I'll add s***ty officiating. I disagree on the wearing down though. We can agree to disagree, again. lol

Well, our only godsend is that the division still stinks so we almost win by default.

I hate to say it but I can't see how this team goes anywhere next year in the playoffs. The defense is still solid, Dom should be good again and the top line rocks but lines 2 thru 4 are, shall we say, less than stellar? Our 2nd line stunk last year but now we don't even have one. The 4th liners get bumped up to 2 but we might not even have Hudler back. Ughh....what a poochscrew. Grigorenko better be the next Sergei Fedorov but with the work ethic of Yzerman or it may not be pretty to watch.

Pretty gloomy for July. Take a look at your first sentence - we will almost win the division by default. The central sucks so bad, I hate to be haughty, but I just don't see how the Wings could miss the playoffs even if they tried. Therefore, there will be opportunities to TRADE for some player(s) by the deadline.

Assuming Hasek signs: Schneider for Rafalski is at wash at worst, upgrade at best. Losing Bertuzzi really doesn't cost us anything - he was a rental for the playoffs, he has health issues, and is a risk. Lang is gone - so that frees up room, if not now, then later.....

I wouldn't throw in the towel yet....

While I don't considering this a big loss, and while I maintain faith in Kenny's ability to pull a great signing out of his ass, I find it a wee bit disheartening that no moves have been made to address this roster's weaknesses. The team showed a hell of a lot of fire and tenacity in the postseason, but it does need to get bigger, stronger, and faster. Bertuzzi would have, at the very least, brought some size and snarl.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not abandoning ship or anything. I just don't really understand why the Wings need to be plagued by the same problems every year when they're really very obvious and straightforward.

Forsberg, as long as he agrees to not get injured.

Everyone freaking out about Bert leaving and acting like he was the "Franchise" is making me laugh my butt off. Would I liked Bert to stay? Yes. Not for what I'm sure the Ducks paid him though.

Trust Kenny... when has this guy ever not put together a Stanley Cup contender? If you can name a year so far and really believe it, you are completely clueless about hockey. Even when the Wings faltered in early rounds of the playoffs, we were favorites to win it all.

The whiners and nay-sayers are all too spoiled... I am so glad to be out of that amazingly negative town where I can just enjoy the Wings and not buy into all this bull crap.

...and anyone who is saying the Wings were beaten down physically in the playoffs this year just has on blinders. The Wings kicked butt this season and in the playoffs without Bert adding much of anything.
