number9 3,297 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 K whoever thinks Tootoo is a dirtbag you clearly dont know Tootoo and ur just making assumptions about him I know 2 different people who have met him and both said the guy was the definition of classy and respectful. One was my friends mother (she's a diehard wing/hockey fan, hates the preds) and she described him as one of the nicest and most polite men she has ever met. I don't remember the whole story of how she ran into him, but something like he ended up going way out of his way to get her a signed puck and stuff. He's been her favorite non-wing for a while now. I think all you Tootoo haters are gonna get to know this guy and really like him. 1 Red Crazy reacted to this

He's bitten guys, thrown cheap hits, and often drops the gloves and starts swinging before the other guy even realizes he's in a fight. Like I said, my biggest issue is he's a dirty player and not good defensively. 1 syntax reacted to this

At least he'll be doing it for us and he has good locker room presence. Some people are talkin like he's locker room cancer and I don't think he is at all. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 The way some are reacting you would've thought we either traded for Chris Pronger or went back to 1999 and signed Claude Lemieux I would be way more excited if the Wings had signed Pronger (at least a pronger from a few years ago). He's a player who'd sometimes dirty, but is a talented beast of a defenseman. Tootoo is a 4th line plug who gets more noticed for his cheap hits and that stupid whistle. 2 Vladifan and puckloo39 reacted to this
redwings15 47 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I'm pretty stoked about this pick up because he's a 30-point agitator. He scored more points than Prust and Moen last year. Yeah, he's only 5'9" but he's bloodied 6'3" guys. You guys need to be like Holland and venture "outside your comfort zone." Sometimes you have to risk it to get the biscuit 1 Konnan511 reacted to this
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 Interesting move. I will say this much: Detroit has seen this guy play for years, so he must bring an element they wanted. And frankly, I think his behaviour issues stemmed largely from his addiction problems, which he has been able to overcome. He's come a long way since then, maturity wise. One thing I am concerned about is that he didn't seem to take kindly to being sat out sometimes in the playoffs, and I'm not sure he'll play every night here, though his salary would suggest he will. That said, he did score 30 points in 77 games this year, so he has the ability to contribute offensively -- more than can be said for many similar kinds of players. Now Samuelsson...I'm not sure how to rationalize that one... Hudler Is gone and we need to replace his goal scoring and we got Sammy for cheap. 30 goals at 3 mil is not a bad deal. The Secret 304 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) This signing is interesting and very unexpected.... For those that hate Tootoo, think back to when we signed Chelios. I hated him! He was a dirty player but when he became a Red Wings my hate left pretty quickly, This could be the same type of thing and he will add some of the grit we need. GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I like tough gritty, players, but Tootoo is one of my most hated players in the league. Also, I'd say he was more effective as a fighter and a pest several years ago. Furthermore, as others have said, it'll be harder now to get Parise or Suter. akustyk 84 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) Better than a skill-free goon like Konopka but I'd rather have Ott. Interesting signing nonetheless. ditto. I kinda like this signing. he's cheap and he adds Babs flexibility to use a player of this type once in a while. as for opinions about his play... can't say that I've watched a lot of him recently, but I remember him from the Preds-Wings 2008 playoff series as being the hardest working guy on their team. not just dishing questionable hits etc. but simply fighting for all the pucks. is he like this AD 2012-13? dunno. but I certainly would love an inspired gritty player on this team. for $0.6M a year it's a low risk, high reward scenario. what's not to like? EDIT: it's $1.9M per year not for all 3. not cheap for a 4th liner (even with the new cap) but I hope he earns his money... zztop40 80 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 Will I like Tootoo as a Wing? Yes....but fans please don't start with the whistle s***...for sure I would not go to the Joe for a game
jthiel86 43 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I hate him so much, I don't want to win a cup to keep him from winning. I was hoping he wouldn't play another game in the NHL and instead A THREE YEAR CONTRACT HERE?!?!?! You sir are not a very good fan of the Wings. Tootoo is a Wing now, people need to get over it. Just think of what he may have done to Weber last year had he been on the Wings? I'm sure he would have done a better job than Bert did, even though Bert gave a decent effort. 2 MabusIncarnate and Wing Across The Pond reacted to this
sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 fans please don't start with the whistle s***...for sure I would not go to the Joe for a game I think all Wings fans need to make a formal agreement that anyone blowing one of those stupid ******* things at the Joe gets an immediate beat down. We need to nip that shlt in the bud immediately.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I am so happy with this signing even to just upset everyone's perfect red wings apple cart. Tootoo brings snarl, hitting and intensity something the wings lack and something I'll enjoy watching. Would everyone prefer some small soft skilled player to this guy on the fourth line? Come on men this is hockey There's more options than just small soft skill player or cheapshotting 4th liner who's bad defensively.
Number19 159 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) Even though he's a dirty player and healthy scratch for the team that knocked us out I'm somewhat content about this signing. He's got an odd likability to him and he gives us some sandpaper. Edited July 2, 2012 by Number19

All of our signings have zero baring on wether we get Parise or Suter. I really think he could bring out the best of ABdelkader as well. Having a guy with him who runs around nailing guys and isnt afraid to fight will get Abby more involved and increase team toughness more See, we can agree on things! 1 hooon reacted to this

hooon 1,089 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I've always wanted a player like Tootoo, and received my share of negs for it. I like this signing. He brings energy and speed and is by far the toughest guy we have now. He has shown good offense instincts in the past, hopefully he can contribute a bit. 3 pondrocket, Mors and 13dangledangle reacted to this
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I would imagine he'll wear #22. Definitely glad we have a little more grit on our team now. The ONLY person I would hate to see in a Wings jersey would be Pronger... If he ever makes it into the winged wheel somehow... I may just go shoot Ken Holland. A lot of people said that about Chelios, too.

Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 I don't mind this signing at all. He'll give the 4th line some identity. Hopefully Abdelkader will follow his lead. He's a hard hitter, drops the gloves, and very annoying. I like it. This. Man that 4th line was painful to watch last year with Emmerton and Homer on it. Had no identity and looked irrelevant every time it took the ice. This signing changes that. 1 F.Michael reacted to this
