I should've listened to you, GMR. I should've listened. I've gone back and forth between love and hate for this guy, but now I straight-up hate him. It sounds childish, cuz it's just a game/sport. But, s***, it's how I feel. I literally hate the guy. It's generally very hard to get me truly hate anyone. But this guy...f*** him.
I don't hate the guy. I just think people overrated him for years.
He inherited a great team and was surrounded by smart people. When the money ran out, he still had the brains around him in good coaching and terrific scouts. Plus he had Jim Nill. Now most of the brains are gone. Other teams are scouting in places the Wings used to scout in. We're left with a GM who has immunity at his job, and an owner who's basically as lucid as a vegetable.
Holland will leave this job when Holland wants to leave this job. No one will make him.
Dallas is making moves, trying to improve, and players aren't refusing to sign there.
Tampa Bay is making moves, trying to improve, and players aren't refusing to sign there.
Am I sensing a theme?
People who know history know that Holland didn't build those late 90's Cup teams. He spent to maintain them (02) after they had been built by Bowman and his predecessors. Furthermore, Holland was lucky in 08 and 09. (See Joe Dumars for reference). Having the best defenseman in a generation (along with prime Dats and Z) can do that to an organization. He didn't build the Wings championships and he sure as hell can't build them now.
People shouldn't be complaining about getting fleeced in the Legwand deal. The team got fleeced in losing Yzerman and Nill.
As I said before, Holland is like a trust fund baby that ends up blowing all the money he was given. He's withered this team down into mediocrity.
Unfortunately, our owner is senile and is eating peanuts at Tiger games.
I would have rather Kenny traded him to a team where he would get an immediate chance to play instead of letting him walk. He had a great season with the Griffins last year with 31 points and you get nothing out of it.
If he couldn't "immediately" play for our terrible defense, then there aren't many places he would have played around the league.
