If I remember correctly, Salei has never been an adept skater, and is known for taking dumb penalties from time to time. Many posters here have adamantly criticized others who have wanted a tough defenseman of some kind, for the same reasons as those I listed above. Yet those same posters have praised Salei without reserve. Hypocrites?

Stuie is not a 3rd pairing guy. He is way too under appreciated especially with how he started the year and just killed it during the inury plague of last season.

Just got back from the signing at Best Buy. pretty epic s***. there were no more than 100 people there, and they had free posters to sign (about 20x30") and I got a couple other things signed. I'd suggest hitting up one of these signings to anyone here that collects autographs. only ryan kesler is doing the signings tomorrow, but its free and he's the main dude on the poster, 75 point scorer and an olympic silver medalist. plus turco, johnson, and kesler are all doing the signing tonight between 5-7pm outside of comerica park. do it up. ryan kesler 8x10 matte... this should look rad once i get a good pic for it :] :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I think Meech would appreciate a deal to another team, i think he's a bit tired of being the extra d-man when he would have a no 5 or 6 spot on many other teams.

kinda hope miller and ritola can fetch something in a trade.... abby/helm/eaves draper/downey rotating in and out of the lineup. draper for injuries, and downey for when we play teams like vancouver and the ducks. with miller and ritolla gone, if there are injuries we can call up tatar/mursak etc and let them get their feet wet. but that is just me.

The NHL is also experimenting with these new rules, as well.

They can examine the contract for Z and Mule all they want, no way should they be "withdrawn". Lidstrom is playing right now at age 40. Chelios was playing for us till he was 47. Hasek played with us when he was 43. Yzerman played when he was 40. Zetterberg and Franzen are signed till 40 which is a realistic age to still be playing, at least on this franchise.

Am I the only one that thinks the NHL is walking a fine line with this? If we limit the earning potential for the players too much we could see more of the best European players go to the KHL for way more money.

I agree with Kovalchuk, and I agree the rest SHOULD have been investigated at the time. But its too late for these contracts to be investigated now. Back pedaling would be a HUGE mistake

My oh my the NHL grew a pair after that ruling. If they do go after those specific people then you go after all IMO. I would bet those teams would say something about the Red Wings sneaking by.

It's easier for younger players to heal. And even those guys have shown rust coming back from injuries in the past. Kronwall was never the same last year after his injury. And I hope to God that he's better defensively than your boy Rafalski. If we were going to sign a Russian, I wish we'd have gone with this man. Yeah, I know Salei is from Belarus, but he did play for Russia once and for all intents and purposes is still somewhat Russian.

No player on the Griffins is particularly "owning it up". Most of the Red Wings highly regarded offensive prospects aren't in the AHL. Plus the fact that Ritola hasn't found his scoring touch. No guarantees he will, but his work ethics and skill level is off the charts.

...and this is EXACTLY why I didn't want Modano here.

Kind of sucks that Drew Miller has a current video up on Red Wings TV of him answering questions on how the team and his role on the team can be better next season.
