There's these people called doctors that have been signing off on this too. You really think a professional hockey team is just going to be going on the word from the player? Don't be silly. And even so, I doubt it was a matter of Osgood being expected to be ready so much as a lack of guys available that were worth moving on. Edit: Oh yeah, the same "team player" probably suffered a worse injury playing through the pain earlier in the season when Howard was playing like garbage. He put his own health on the line to try and help the team, knowing full well that these sorts of injuries are harder to come back from at his age. It's fine to be upset that he's not healthy and all; it's disappointing. But don't question the guy's character over it. That's just absurd. The guy loves this team as much anyone who's ever worn the jersey.

If you're out five days post injury twittering and watching a movie and having a good ol' time, pretty sure that means you aren't that hurt. Not that how Pacioretty was should have had any bearing on Chara's hit in the first place. The hit was not legal, it got punished already which thankfully was not a suspension but a penalty. I would say let sleeping dogs lie because this makes no friggen sense to embellish the way the Habs and their fans have, but it certainly makes for a good rivalry and I, for one, will be watching the next Boston/Montreal game which looks like it's tomorrow evening.

That stat is pretty much meaningless. If you actually look at the numbers there are goalies on that list that haven't even played in 30 games. If you only include goalies that have played in 41 or more games Howard ranks 22nd with goalies like Carey Price and Cam Ward behind him, both of them are in the top 10 in Sv% leaders and Price being in the top 10 of GAA leaders. It's not indicative of anything concerning the goaltender.

Broken vertebrae means he's pretty damn hurt. A concussion of any level means he's hurt. Whether Recchi's calls of embellishment are true or not doesn't matter with regards to the hit; the hit was still an illegal hit that he should have been suspended for.

That's because those teams work hard. The Wings are lazy and don't work hard. Very simple really. BTW, is it possible for this team to win a game at the JLA? I mean, I know the fans there don't show up and the arena sounds like the echo of an indoor swimming pool while watching it on TV, but this is getting pathetic. I'm in med school right now. a lot of a doctor's diagnosis in this case is related to what the patient is experiencing. you have to take the word of your patient. scans and tests aren't the be all and end all. if ozzie is coming out in interviews and saying hes gonna be fine by march then he likely was saying the same to his doctors. it seems as though the injury was a serious one, and its hard to be realistic when your career is on the line. I'm not doubting that he put his health on the line. it also wasn't a good choice thats all im saying. i love ozzie and what he's done for us. i don't want you to think im hating on him directly. it just seems like he's getting old and he's not the same player physically. i don't think he's fully accepted that. neways, im not interested in fighting. hence the :"i know im gonna get ripped on" in the original post.

i know people are gonna bash me for saying this. but it was kind of selfish for ozzie to claim he'd be find and back by march. he put his own hopes ahead of the interest of the team. we could have gone out and got a replacement at the deadline, but he insisted that he'd be back. now you get a situation where howard will be run into the ground by the second round. i like joey, but i don't think he's big game material. ozzie needed to give this team a chance to win by being completely honest about the seriousness of his situation. he kept downplaying it like it was nothing. i just don't think thats the actions of a team player. sounds like an old guy desperate for one last shot.

Its apparent you haven't paid attention to the goaltenders in the farm team this year. McCollum has been crap. Pearce has been much better, but I don't think he is even close to Howard. As for your faith in Howard, I can't fix that. You can point to numbers and scoff. I can point to the lazy defense and team play, as apparent to last night, and say they need to be motivated. In the end, who is right? Maybe a bit of both? Not that you will blame the lazy ass players in front of him. As I also said before, the Wings could have the best goalie in the league and people would still *****. There is no human being good enough to play for the Wings. I have faith in him because I am a Wings fan. I back my team 100%, no exceptions. The management of the Wings has delivered 4 cups in the last 14 years. That alone should be enough to give you faith. If not, well, the Vancouver Canucks could use you as a bandwagon fan.

You cannot look at the sv% and GAA categories. Those include too many goalies that have limited GP underneath their belts. The correct categories to look at are the leaders categories. In Sv% leaders Howard is 29th out of 43. In GAA leaders he is 32nd out of 43. Not great but no where near as bad as you are making it seem. The Wings' defense this year as been anything but sound and good. The offense has been great this season and their G/G indicates that. 3.19 G/G, good enough for second in the league. GA/G is strikingly different. 2.81 which is 18th in the league. SA/G is 30.3 which puts the Wings 14th in the league. I'm not saying that Howard isn't at fault but the defense needs some of the blame here. The defense has been mediocre this season and the numbers show it. Yes, Howard has a bad game last night and everyone is quick to jump on him for it but very few are willing to give him credit for playing an absolutely amazing game against the Preds. You just cannot stop the haters from digging his grave.

To me he is pretty much "the voice of the Red Wings," so it's weird hearing him call a game for other teams (I believe he did a Flyers vs. Rangers game a few weeks ago as well). Any time I don't have to listen to Doc Emerick on Versus is a win, in my book.
