I love the GDTs we have...

How pissed would the mods be if about 30 of us each did our own game day thread one night like that? They can't ban 30 of us, can they?

On the M-Live article, Dat's had a (typical) funny quote- “I hope so I play a few games before the playoffs. I watched too much this season. I'm tired of watching TV. I want to be on TV.''

    SportsNet Crisis on Ice

They need to get rid of that stupid ******* instigater rule. I think they'd be amazed at the amount of reduction in concussions that alone would bring. I also think they need to do away with the trapezoid too. That wouldn't have as much impact as the instigater rule being taken out, but it would help bring a small reduction as well. Not to mention its just a completely retarded rule.

    Cooke suspended

In my own personal opinion, the suspension wasn't nearly long enough. He has too long a history of s*** like this, and you could reasonably deduce from the fact he's had as many incidents like this as he has, that he doesn't really give a damn if he severely injures someone or not. I mean, if for example you know that walking backward without looking where you're going will knock someone down and hurt them, and after several incidents where you do just that, you continue to do it anyway.....any reasonably sane person would look at you say, "You don't care if you hurt someone, do you?" Same thing applies here, really. He knows head shots are dangerous and can not only end someone's career, it could cause serious physical harm......but he keeps doing it anyway. Either he thinks he's invincible, or he's too mentally unstable to be playing hockey. Hockey is already a very physical, aggressive sport. Why make it that much more dangerous for other players by letting this idiot out on the ice? Why let someone continue to put themselves in the position to deliberately do things they know are not only against the rules of the sport, but beyond the level of physicality required to even play the sport in the first place.

I'm a huge Nyquist fan. I can't wait to see what he can do in Grand Rapids. He should help with their playoff push. No thanks. This kid has slick hands and great vision. We don't need his hands getting broken or his face being crushed. Abdelkader should be the one dropping his mitts more often.

    The Wings flipped the "switch"

Wings have their fair share of first round exits, however, seeing posts like these every season aren't really surprising either. I see the glass as half full with what most have which a rather even keel plane of cautious optimism, you see it as a jar half full of crap with a floating doody in it. You can keep your jar. Thankfully some of us don't see a reason to constantly tear down the things we're a fan of and enjoy watching, which seems to be a rather common theme from you. I've seen "the switch" quite often, especially in the post-cap era. Teams that go all out during the regular season nowadays unsurprisingly tire out quickly and are unable to cope with a long and physically enduring playoff run. San Jose Sharks anyone? If the Wings get healthy for a change, they breeze through the first round.

Crapcount - 11 Here's a suggestion about how to deal with obnoxious Canucks fans in the future.... Before you go to the game print up 5 or 6 flyers that document the Stanley Cup success of the Wings since 1996. Maybe add to it the Canucks "success" over the same time period -- or better yet, since 1970. Give one of those flyers to whomever annoys you.

Seriously Hank? Oh my God no! People shouted the name of a player at a sporting event? Call Homeland Security! And flags to support their nation and their team? The humanity! Are you guys really this thin-skinned? Try going to a Canucks game when Montreal, Toronto or Calgary is in town. You'd be embarrassed you even mentioned this in the first place. As for Canucks fans "practically starting fights", ("practically" - what does that even mean?) well I always believe unsupported and unconfirmed testimonials by anonymous people on the internet -- especially if the testimonial comes after a loss to a conference rival. That's as good as taking an oath in a court of law as far as I'm concerned. This complaining about Canucks fans is only a deflection to make you feel better about the loss. The refereeing wasn't downright atrocious so I guess you've got to grab whatever figurative pacifier you can find. Get over it. There have been far more Canucks fans in arenas in the western states this year, but far fewer tears from the hometown crowd about them being there. Dry those tears guys. It was just one game. Odds are you'll have a chance at revenge in the playoffs.

    An Inspirational Story

I just thought I would share this. I've always been amazed at the Wings and their involvement with fans, but this particular situation is something special. Everyone, meet Earl Cook, an inspirational young man who keeps battling. http://www.cbc.ca/thenational/blog/2011/03/theres-something-about-earl.html Enjoy.

    Chara's hit on Pacioretty

I'm adding Bertuzzipunch to my vocabulary. And for what it's worth (not much) I'm glad Chara wasn't suspended. And I hope that Max makes a full and complete recovery.

MacDonald is an AHL goalie with zero playoff experience. That's why you start Howard. This team will lose if MacDonald is their playoff goalie. MacDonald has been a solid backup this season. Some people are trying to make him out to be more than what he is. It's the Conklin situation all over again. It's more than Howard. This whole team has been wildly inconsistent this year. Your goaltending will suffer if your defense is hanging him out to dry night after night.

Just because? Howard has been wildly inconsistent all year, with extended stretches of poor play. This is more noticeable because the Wings have been only average defensively, and have not been a team which can account for their goaltender's weaknesses and protect against them. If MacDonald plays a good number of the remaining games and looks great while Howard looks like crap, or if Ozzie comes back and looks great and Howard isn't getting it together, there's no reason Babcock "has" to start Howard. Starting a guy in the playoffs just because he's the guy you had intended to start way back when doesn't get you anywhere. In 1994, Bob Essensa was started in the playoffs despite the fact a rookie Osgood reclaimed the starting job and was playing more regular season games than Essensa - after having already won it from Cheveldae. You start the guy who is most likely to lead you to victory.

I agree with Shoreline, the hit wasn't the cleanest, but I feel the league dealt with it correctly in not handing out any further discipline. The NHL can't make calls and suspend players based solely on the result of a hit.

    Chara's hit on Pacioretty

Wow. That's crazy. Crazy because he's speaking the truth. Careful Mark, they might call the cops on you. I've had a concussion before, I'm pretty sure Recchi has too. If you're out five days post injury twittering and watching a movie and having a good ol' time, pretty sure that means you aren't that hurt. Not that how Pacioretty was should have had any bearing on Chara's hit in the first place. The hit was not legal, it got punished already which thankfully was not a suspension but a penalty. I would say let sleeping dogs lie because this makes no friggen sense to embellish the way the Habs and their fans have, but it certainly makes for a good rivalry and I, for one, will be watching the next Boston/Montreal game which looks like it's tomorrow evening.

    Ken Daniels on VS?

To me he is pretty much "the voice of the Red Wings," so it's weird hearing him call a game for other teams (I believe he did a Flyers vs. Rangers game a few weeks ago as well). Any time I don't have to listen to Doc Emerick on Versus is a win, in my book.
