I think he's really depressed about how things turned out. He was excited to join his hometown team and then scores a goal on his first shift with the Wings. He had to be absolutely thrilled, but he struggled to get chemistry with his linemates (Hudler's really slow start didn't help), he gets injured, misses most of the year, fights to get a spot in the lineup, basically doesn't play during the playoffs despite all the injuries. He was expecting to make one good solid run at a championship with the Wings, a proven winner and wanted to go down swinging. If he wins, great, if not, he gave it his all. That didn't happen. He barely played, didn't get an opportunity to give it his all and went out while sitting in the press box. He's proud guy and I think he's just really depressed about how the past year went for him and how he'll never get another shot like that one again. -

Never been done before, eh. I say Warner Bros. buys the Coyotes and they will be called the Roadrunners at home and remain the Coyotes on the road. -

Duh you guys, it's gonna be the Pittsburgh Crosby's..... The jersey change is from White//black/Yellow Ocre to Canary Yellow/sky blue and White with a dominate yellow stripe down the back and a diving board for a logo! I swear you guys are sooooo naive! -

Changes in the offseason

I find it unlikely that, given the free agent pool, Drury will be bought out with only one year left on his deal. I earnestly hope you do not actually want Joni Pitkanen at $5m per year. He's not worth it. -

Mike Modano
Uncle Danny reacted to SouthernWingsFan for a post in a topic
He's nearing the end of his career, it's hard to be on the fringe in terms of finally deciding to move on and thinking you still have some gas left in the tank to be productive, which honestly I believe Modano could still be given the right role or minutes or whatever. Add to that the crappy luck with his injury and struggling to get back in the swing of things immediately while other players were being productive, it just confused things a little bit more. Whether you were for or against signing him last season is not my point here. I was happy the Wings signed him but if you weren't, cool. There were definitely reasons against signing him but that's not what I want to get into. I don't think it is lack of heart or drama. Just basically being open about what his thoughts were and not even close to playing the woe is me card or saying I should've or could've played more down the stretch or whatever. More just of a natural frustration than anything I think at the general situation about the freak injury, etc. I don't think he's blaming anybody or making excuses and what not. Could he have thrived more in a few more games in the playoffs? Perhaps so. Would it have been nice to see it happen? Sure. We'll never know. Him not playing more or what he is saying is not lack of heart, it's just simply he's trying to figure things out if and if it is time to end this part of his career, nothing more or less. Personally, I was a Modano supporter and would've liked to see him play more, but I'm not going to go on a rant that him not playing as much wasn't fair or if he would've played the Wings might've won stance, that's stupid. I wish he could've gotten a few more games but I get why he wasn't in as much, support the team first, etc. etc. -

SCF: Boston Bruins vs. Vancouver Canucks
acidroach420 gave a reaction for a post in a topic
So much to like about Game 4. Thomas punching Burrows in the head. Marchand flipping Ashley Sedin. The Bruins smacking the Canucks around for all 3 periods. Luongo crapping the bed especially on that last goal. Vancouver has only scored 5 goals in 4 games. Boston has to like their chances if they keep playing their aggressive up-tempo attack game. The Canucks do not have the time and space to set up their offense and they players collectively look scared to be hit. The Bruins have shut down the Canuck power play and their forward depth is showing right now. Horton gets hurt and Peverley steps in and scores 2 goals. The Canucks lack that shutdown #1 dman ala Chara which is once again hurting them in the playoffs. The tide can turn from game to game but to me, the Canucks have to raise their level of play like the Bruins have in Games 3 and 4. They went from being careful and passive to being physical and aggresive. The winner of Game 5 should win this series. Of course we all know that winning game 5 doesn't necessarily mean you'll win it. I like how the Bruins are playing right now. I will admit that I never gave them much of a chance heading into this series but I am very happy to be wrong. -

Kris Draper Works Out With Lions
Hockeymom1960 reacted to Travis for a post in a topic
As much as I want the Wings to get younger, Drapes is probably the one old-timer I'd like to see get re-signed. (Lidstrom is obvious) He's a been a big part of Helm's improvements and I think he's thriving in the 'mentor' role. -

Yeah its not like Suh is busy with huge endorsements or anything. Anyone who questions this guys work ethic and dedication is beyond stupid, seriously the guy is a beast. With him leading the charge the lions just might, dare I say, make a playoff push next season -

Aaron Rome
redwings4life reacted to eva unit zero for a post in a topic
Ok coach, how does Horton avoid this one? He's gliding into center ice while Lucic is lining up to receive the pass and Rome is lining up to hit him. He is moving pretty slowly and couldn't get out of the way if he tried to. Which, of course, would have required his knowing that the hit was coming. Just because Rome's final motion was to hit Horton towards center ice doesn't make this a north-south hit; he was skating east-west for a good distance directly before he threw the hit. That makes it a blindside hit. Whether Horton should have seen him is irrelevant; especially as Horton wouldn't have been able to avoid him anyway. -

I already said earlier in this thread that I may have gone over the top suggesting it carry over AND I think they got it right with what they handed out... I've been playing hockey for over 23 years, but the reason players need to keep their heads up, is to protect themselves - This does not exonerate someone who threw a dirty hit, because the receiving player didn't follow the golden rule. Specifically to rule 48, fine, that very specific rule, with its wording, does not apply here. It doesn't mean that it wasn't still a play that needs to be removed and/or isn't directly connected to that exact type of play... There's no way Horton wasn't getting hurt on that hit - moot point. Regardless of which side you're on, the league got the discipline on this one right. different league, different rules - learn to evolve and play within them, simple as that. The more I watch the video, the more I can see your argument on the charge, there are 2 clear strides (backwards, or forwards, each distinct motion still counts) but the 3rd one is murky... I'll admit when I'm wrong and on this account, I may be - however, I disagree completely on the "watching the pass" BS, you can even see Horton check the line and the linesman as he enters... he was in a helpless position and that hit needs to be given up, no matter how you cut it. Back to the suspension as well - they got it right, period. The one area the league needs to improve upon is consistency, because I agree that had it not been a star, it probably wouldn't have been so harsh, and that's wrong - The same rules, should apply to all players. -
