reaching beyond logic? In what universe do you know anything about what is going on in Lidstrom's family life? You made a huge assumption on what Lidstrom's true intentions were, based on very little information. My logic is solid.

He probably knows as much about your personal situation and job choices as you do Lidstrom's.

I love it when people say things like that. As if they've "won" some argument or made some brilliant point. The reality is, you actually don't know jack about Lidstrom's personal life. You may know how much money he makes, even where he lives. But there's no way you could possibly know his mindset as he's deciding what to do with his life and his family. Yet you acted as if it were fact it was all about the money. Same with Stuart. It's easy to sit back and judge people when you have no idea what is actually going on in their lives. Do you really not understand the difference between people speculating about someone's personal situation, and how their personal life actually is? BOOM! *throws the mic down and walks off stage, hands over his head in victory* Just wanted to highlight all the bad assumptions in your post. Pro athletes are certainly human and have faults like the rest of us. But that doesn't necessarily mean they all fit your bitter jaded view of them either.

haroldsnepsts Brian Rafalski. $6 Million dollars. "This was probably the most challenging season of my career, both physically, mentally and spiritually, but it was also the most rewarding and most blessed...The decision was made between myself and my wife approximately two months ago. We went through a long process of weighing different factors in our lives. At the end of the day it came down to priorities, with the top three priorities being serving God, serving my family and serving others."

Kind of off topic but it has some lawls, the first 5 minutes at least. The last minute is very sad... God bless that family.

Lidstrom is the second-greatest defenceman of all time, IMO, but it is folly to suggest he was as good as or better than Orr. There has never been anyone else in hockey able to do what Orr did. Even with bad knees most of his career, his skating was as good as or better than Coffey's, his vision was almost Gretzky-esque and he could more than hold his own physically. The idea that his accomplishments should be downgraded because he won his Norris trophies in a smaller league is a logical fallacy. When Orr played (mostly in a 12-team league), the worst player he faced was about the 240th best player in North America at that time. Lidstrom plays against guys every night who are at best the 500th- to 600th-best player, albeit in the entire world and not just North America. There's no surefire way to compare eras, but I am convinced that if 18-year-old Bobby Orr came along today, he would become as dominant a force as he was back then. He would not put up as many points as he did because hockey is less wide open, more well coached and has goalies who are both better and have much bigger equipment. But he would dominate, especially considering that when he played, obstruction was standard practice and now it is (somewhat) gone. And of course if he came along today, his first knee injury would have been fixed with a simple arthroscopic procedure and he likely wouldn't have suffered the ongoing deterioration in his knee that ruined his career.

You can cause long term damage to retina depending on the class of laser pointers. I say that warrants a criminal charge.

It wasn't every contract year. I'm not saying there weren't stories of this. I remember it too. But you're assuming it's purely a ploy for more money and not a legitimate consideration of taking his family and raising his kids back in his native Sweden.
  19. 2 points
The reality is you have no idea what the actual claim or situation was. I could totally understand him seriously returning to his native country to raise his kids there and be with his family. I can also see an agent using that possibility as leverage. To think you could possible know it was all about the dollars is extremely presumptuous.

Negotiating ploy? Nick's a 43 year old man who wants to see his kids grow up. He can't play captain forever, eventually he has to play dad and husband.

He said the defense was better without Ericsson. Lidstrom has been out both of those games as well. But I guess this isn't just more baseless Ericsson bashing and you can somehow determine that the defense actually looks better overall specifically because of Ericsson's absence and not Lidstrom's? It used to be that Kindl>Ericsson, which was wrong. Ericsson clearly outplayed Kindl, who couldn't hold his spot in the lineup over Commie. When that became obvious, you guys shifted to complaining about Ericsson's contract. Now that he's out of the lineup, somehow you can tell the defense is better specifically because of his absence. You guys hate him. That's fine. Certain players are just going to get bashed. But it's not about what's actually happening on the ice, it's silly to pretend otherwise. As for Smith, I'm glad he's finally getting some playing time. I know it's probably for the best, but Holland's "overly ripe"philosophy can be frustrating. I can't wait until this kids a regular in the lineup.

    Lidstrom to win Norris trophy?

This to a "T" They will never vote Lidstrom an 8th trophy just because that would mean that people would have to admit that Lidstrom is just as good as or even better than Orr ever was. So by that fact alone, Lids will retire with 7 Norris Trophies. On that note, if I am making a team and picking players from their prime, Lidstrom gets picked before Orr...
