Say what you will about Barry Trotz...

I believe that Trotz was serious. Everything he has said previously indicates to me that he looks up to Lidstrom as much as his lack of a neck allows.

    Do we really need Suter?

Ok Here are my If's. Lids signs for 3.5. We sign Parise for 6.0. We sign Doan for 4.5. Finally we trade Franzen and cleary and a first to Colombus for Nash. which is 7.8 in, with 6.4 going out. Obiviously we dont sign Hudler or Stuart. Maybe pick up one tough guy(fighter) early and a depth defenceman at the trade deadline. My question is could you live with Lids, kronwall, Erickson, Quincy, White, Smith? Kindl and Janik being the seventh and eighth until the Deadline? Would the team be tough enough? I just don't see defence being what the problem was.

    Toughness and Snipers

Matt Carkner will most likely hit free agency as well and would be a decent pickup for D. He would definitely address the toughness need and can actually play decent minutes in case Quincey can't turn his game around. Adding a cheap "tough guy" on D would allow Holland to go with speed on the bottom six and avoid signing a 4th-liner that would only play 4-5 minutes a game. Getting Parise has to be the top priority, though. The series with Nashville proved that this team doesn't have one guy outside of Zetterberg that can be relied on for goals.

Say what you will about Barry Trotz...

From the DRW official Twitter feed: Although, I suppose you could take that one of two ways: Trotz believes Lids deserves a better sendoff than a 5-game first round loss Trotz secretly thinks Lidstrom is declining fast and would be a detriment to the Wings and therefore, an asset to the Preds I've always liked Trotz, so I'd like to think it's the former.

What's REALLY going to happen this off-season?

Hudler re-signs for 5 years, 25 mil. Samuelsson and Kopecky are signed as UFAs. Quincey is re-signed as well. Holmstrom signs for 2 more years. Lidstrom retires. Stuart is gone. Kenny says he loves our depth and that the UFA prices were just way too high. Says he had interest in 4 or 5 players but they were too rich for his blood. Kenny says the Wings are not that far away from winning the Cup as they lost to the Cup champion Nashville Preds. Says he will wait until the trade deadline with all the Cap space available. Deadline will come and Kenny will trade for Ville Leino saying he is the missing piece and they never should have traded him in the first place. Wings lose in the first round to Nashville again. Rinse and repeat. Ok so this is the nagging voice in my head which I keep trying to block out. I will not mention it anymore! Here is what Kenny will do...Sign Parise and Suter. Nick comes back. Homer retires and gets a job as Haakan Andersson's assistant as swedish scout. Quincey is traded to the Oilers for a 2nd round pick. Nyquist and Smith make the team. Stuart leaves for Cali. Emmerton is waived and is picked up by Stevie in Tampa. Moen is signed to play with Eaves and Abby on the 4th line. Parise-Datsyuk-Nyquist Filppula-Zetterberg-Franzen Cleary-Helm-Bertuzzi Moen-Abdelkader-Eaves Miller, Mursak Lidstrom-Suter Kronwall-White Ericsson-Smith Kindl Howard-MacDonald

f*** Nashville. Anyone rooting for them makes me sick. I hope someone smashes Weber's face into the glass and gets a $2500 fine, that is the going rate no?

As much as everyone is frustrated with the lack of success the last few years I think we should all be looking at this differently. Most teams in the NHL go through rebuilding modes where they miss the playoffs. The Wings are able to go through their rebuilding periods while having early playoff exits. Everyone who was screaming for UFA signings last summer would be the same people pissed that the Wings wouldnt have cap space heading into this summer to try and get a big ticket player. I think too often people look at hockey teams on one year intervals. People always say things like, 'the Wings didn't make any trades at the deadline this year, wtf?'. Personally if you look at the cap and the way teams manage it you have to be looking at it on a much larger scale. The Wings are in a prime opportunity to go after big ticket players now and have some prospects that can potentially be impactful. Every time of the last number of years when fans have called for the re-tooling of impact players Holland has done it. Yes, some of those times were pre-cap but he was also able to replace Schneider with Rafalski. I honestly think the Wings have had this summer as their target over the last 2-3 years of cap planning. I'm not a Holland apologist and I do think some of the moves he has made could have been better. But I do still believe that the overall plan was to move forward this year.

And yet somehow Kenny is going to convince someone to take him -- and his eight more years, $27.5M owing -- off our hands? Get back to us when that becomes a fact. Uh, no. Neither guy is an all-star. One is a soon-to-be UFA aged 32, the other a signed player aged 26. The former is NOT more valuable in the trade market than the latter. There is zero chance the Wings could get a first-rounder for Stuart, and Clowe is even farther from reality.

    What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

I like Morrow's heart but he seems broken down and injury prone at this stage of his career. Guys, Kenny is not moving Franzen. While it is frustrating as hell to watch the Mule float around like he's a swedish ballerina, he is still our best goal scorer. We need MORE goal scoring. Not less. His Cap hit does not kill us. It's 4 mil a year. I know us Wings fans always need our couple of scapegoats to pick on but you only need to look at Kenny's past history as a GM that moving Franzen is not likely to happen. Kenny does not make many trades anymore. When he does it's usually acquiring players for draft picks like Stuart and Quincey. His last impact trade was in the summer of 2001 when he traded for Hasek and gave up Kozlov and a 1st. That was 11 years ago. So why is he now going to trade Franzen? Does anyone seeing us getting back a 30-40 goal scorer in return? I don't. For those who think Mule and Flip will get us Corey Perry, it will not happen. Perry is a Hart Trophy winner who has won a Cup and is just entering his prime years. Why would the Ducks deal him for a floating and underachieving Swede who is locked into a massive long term contract? Plus a 2nd line centre whos contract is up after next season in Flip. It makes no sense. If Kenny can sign Parise then it takes alot of pressure off Mule. I think he will actually be a better player having some scoring help on the Wings. Parise plays with Dats and Mule plays with Z. That's a solid top 4 group of forwards. This makes it tougher for other teams to match up against. Hey I have a love-hate thing with Mule. I know how valuable he can be and I also know how lazy he can be. But for 4 mil a season, I keep him and hope I get more GOOD MULE than BAD MULE.

Nill passes on chance to become Montreal's GM

Does he know how to speak french? This seems to be the most important criteria to be the coach or GM of the Habs.

Nashville is deeper but you never know in playoffs. anyway, I'll be rooting for Preds. the franchise does so many things right, they play hard day in, day out, I'd like to see them reach WCF (at least) finally.

Who would you prefer to be making these moves?

Holland. Of course, to some people the grass is always greener on the other side. It takes a certain sort of mindlessness to always buy into that style of thought, but that failing is, sadly, common for humans. Yzerman had a successful team last season. This season his team was well out of the playoff race by Thanksgiving. Were this to occur with the Red Wings, people would be calling for Holland's head. But because of the aforementioned style of thought, many people here believe regardless that Yzerman would be better. For that matter, they believe that replacing Holland would be guaranteed to bring about an increase in the Wings' fortunes. It doesn't make a whit of sense. The Wings won't win the Cup every season. But Holland has produced a level of consistent success unmatched by any other GM of the past 15 years. The reason we see so much screaming about Holland when the Wings don't go deep in the playoffs is, ironically, because of that consistent success.

Who will be Vancouver's 2012-13 goalie?

How does Franzen at all fit into that list? $4m for a perennial 30-goal scorer is not a bad deal.

Who will be Vancouver's 2012-13 goalie?

Franzen in DET, Gomez in MTL, Pronger in PHI?, Komisarek or Phaneuf in TOR, Lecavalier iin TB, Kovalchuk in NJ, Bouwmeester in CGY, Steve Mason in CLB, Richards/Carter in LA. If they allow that, it should get interesting. Washington could legitimatly look at Ovechkin.

Parise is a lock for the Wings, and I tend to think Suter is, too, unless Holland has an ace up his sleeve for some completely unexpected defenseman.
