Bettman wants to tout the "Original 12" now, haha
SaCkaveli20 and one other reacted to haroldsnepsts for a post in a topic
I think we're all just bored because the Wings have been eliminated and Bettman is a little weasel so he's an easy target. He's basically just trying to say something about the Blues and their franchise in regards to their sale. Especially since they sold for well less than their estimated value, and $20 million less than what they were purchased for in 2006. After two years the sale of the team is finally over with, and the Blues have a good team that's finally in a position to make money. In the words of The Replacements, Gary's got a boner. -
2 pointsDude your either living in fantasy land or NHL12 lol....The Wings are a dignified, respectable, classy organization. And we got that way by letting our players retire as wings. We dont get nothing for that either...players like nick give us 20+ years of dedicated loyal service. What more do you want man!?!?!? and so will players like datsyuk and zetterberg and so on. They are not common whores that get traded away as soon as they turn 35.... They are Wings. They were born Wings and they will die Wings....Even at their ripe old ages they play a 360 degree game that most "proving themselves up and coming players" will never ever achieve or even dream of. We are one of the most respected and successful organizations in all of sports because we DONT do what you are talking about. Theres a reason why in the players poll the majority of players voted that the organization theyd most like to play for is Detroit...we turn boys into legends...put rings on their fingers...then retire them and give em a job behind the scenes...its been workin since 97 and we aint changin it now....remeber 2001, 2003, and 2006? OH NOOOO BLOW UP THE TEAM!!!!! WELL NEVER WIN AGAIN WITH THESE SHMUCKS!!!! (championship in 2002 and 2008).......if ur really so worried about our Vets (not sure ive ever been worried about veteran wings) and our future, then see: Smith, Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Jarnkrok, Sheahan, Mrazek, Andersson, Pulkkinen, Ouellet, Sproul, Tvrdon, Ferraro, Quine, Callahan, Marchenko.....need i say more? our farm is stacked and were almost ready to harvest again....no need to aquire the up and coming leinos and semins of the world. Hockey is different then NHL12 friend. at this point id like to reiterate a previous posters statement....soooooo glad kenny is running this team

throw an offer sheet at the Sens Karlsson? this kid is the real deal and could be Nic's heir apparent, how many 1st rounders would it cost us? all this talk of Suter and Parise, Kennys or the Wings policy is not to do this but we may have to do something like this to get a top D into the org. Maybe the 2 Minny boys wanna play for there home state now and not entertain the other offers they'll get. Which will leave us waiting another year and try for Weber or act outta the ball park. question, would you have Sam Gagner over Hudler? Gagner is a R/H shot and has posted 40+ pts the past 5 years. his ppg is higher than Huds and he is 5 years younger. The current contracts are similar, both may seek a rise? getting help for Pav if Parise doesn't come. Get him some help from home,Nikolai Kulemin a good 2 way guy with some size and how about a cheeky offer for Alexander Radulov? The guy is a great player, but could he curb his antics off the ice? Maybe Pav could curtail this in him. failing that one of the unhearlded players at the WC is Swiss league top scorer Damien Brunner who is leading the Swiss in scoring at the WC and is also a R/H shot. the sp on him is; A slick offensive forward who can shoot as well as pass the puck. Has great wheels and hands. Plays a gritty game. anyway Babs is over there watching GROUP HELSINKI so im sure he's scouting as well as watching the canadiens. -

The Senators can and will simply take Karlsson to salary arbitration if he does not accept their qualifying offer. As such, he will not be eligible to receive an offer sheet. Gagner scored 47 points last season, yes. 11 of those came in a two-game span, so let's just call it 36. Whatever the case, Gagner has not developed to the Oilers' expectations. He is inconsistent and frequently lazy. Furthermore, he is an RFA, and giving up picks for him (and he'd almost certainly cost at least $2.75m) would not be worth it. Too, the Oilers can simply take him to arbitration if they wish. On top of this, he doesn't score goals. He just had his best-ever goalscoring season in the NHL, and this was only 18 goals; and five of those game in a two-game span. And he's the same size as Hudler is. Radulov is a douchebag. There's no other way of putting it. And he, as with the other two, is an RFA, which would necessitate giving up picks. No thanks on both counts. I'd be wary of having this guy on the team even were he a UFA. -

1 pointImagine my disappointment when I opened the link expecting to see Gary Bettman going on and on and on about the historic significance of the "Original 12". I was fully prepared to scream bloody murder because the OP had led me to believe that Bettman was TOUTING the "Original 12" as opposed to just explaining that St. Louis was indeed one of the original twelve teams and then returning to the topic at hand, the Blues new ownership. When it comes to Bettman's shenanigans it's always best to be prepared, so while I can't scream bloody murder as planned, I'm always ready (as is the OP) to cry wolf over any of Gary's various infractions and disgraces. So I'm putting it on notice, if Gary Bettman doesn't right this wrong immediately, I'm going to start a jihad against him. And the only way he can fix this eggregious folly is to begin TOUTING a new concept: the "Unoriginal 24". The resulting t-shirts and commercials touting this concept will truly put the rest of those pansy assed teams in their place for good!

The Astuteness of Paul Holmgren.
Hockeymom1960 gave a reaction for a post in a topic
I agree on Bryz being overrated and overpaid. But where is Holmgren's accountability? The Flyers are paying Pronger for the next 5 years to basically be retired. They are also paying Bryz 7 mil a season for the next 6 years to be Garth Snow. If I'm Ed Snider, I don't want this guy flushing my money down the toilet anymore. Holmgren should be replaced. -
1 pointCould we have used more goals from the top 6?...sure, but it isn't why we lost. You need more than your top 2 lines to win a playoff series as Nashville showed us. They got over 50% of their scoring from their bottom 6 The Wings scored 248 goals this year 132 came from the top 6 for 53%.of their goals the defence contributed 49 for 20% the bottom 6 kicked in 67 for 27% In the playoffs The top 6 accounted for 67% of scoring The defence 11% and the bottom 6 contributed 22% .Nashville's bottom 6 shredded our bottom 6 both offensively and defensively, also the scoring from our defence disappeared. That is the reason we lost the series.

Obviously Bryzgalov was nowhere near his typical form this season but I think too much is being made of his quirky personality. The only difference from passed seasons and this year is that his quirky personality is getting more attention since he plays for the Flyers and not the Coyotes. It's not like the guy just developed this quickiness over night. That being said, I don't think enough is being made about the injuries the Flyers had on the blueline this year. Bryzgalov will be better next year. -

I'm just waiting for Bettman to make all 30 teams wear a 20th anniversary patch for the Nashville Predators celebrating their rich hockey history as one of the original 30. Bettman will say...The Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings both share a rich history of hockey tradition and these 2 teams should be the gold standard of how to be a successful hockey franchise. Then Bettman will honour past Red Wings greats like Howe, Yzerman, Lindsay, Delvecchio and Lidstrom. While at the same time past Preds legends such as Vokoun, Legwand, Tootoo and Erat will be honoured. Bettman will close the ceremony saying...THESE 2 HISTORIC FRANCHISES MIRROR EACH OTHER IN EVERY WAY and SHOULD BE PROUD TO BE A PART OF THE ORIGINAL 30. -

Uncle Danny reacted to MabusIncarnate for a post in a topic
I'm not particularly "offended" by this, and i'm not sure really what the rage is all about. He's not standing on a podium saying historically the original six is now the original twelve and throw the tradition of the original six out the window. He could call them part of "The First Expansion six" but that's just kind of dumb. If you want to get technical the Wings joined the league 15 years after Toronto and Boston, but neither of them are trying to claim they should be "The Original Two" or anything like that. St. Louis is one of the first 12 NHL teams, just like Vancouver and Buffalo are part of the original 14, and so on and so forth. He isn't claiming to change the historical original six to the original twelve, I think the quotation was taken very out of context if you read it again, all that's being stated here is St. Louis was one of the first 12 teams to join the NHL, which in fact they were. Guys I know it's the offseason and we are really bored, but come on. If I can be honest, they can market whatever they want, I remember growing up and there being a lot of speculation if there would even be an NHL in the future because of the lack of fan base and it was a struggling sport for a long time. Anything he does to improve the status of the sport, bring in more fans, and keep it afloat doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I don't even think it will go as far as a marketing scheme or anything like that. I think it was just a completely misinterpreted quotation from an article. Just because, here's a timeline of the NHL teams and when they entered the NHL. 1917- Montreal, Toronto 1924- Boston 1926- Chicago, NYR 1932- Detroit 1967 (Expansion)- Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Dallas (Minnesota and California) 1970- Vancouver, Buffalo 1972- NYI, Caroliona (Hartford),Calgary (Atlanta) 1974- Washington, New Jersey (Kansas City and Colorado) 1979- Colorado (Quebec), Edmonton, Phoenix (Winnipeg) 1991- San Jose 1992- Ottawa, Tampa Bay 1993- Anaheim, Florida 1998- Nashville 1999- Atlanta 2000- Minnesota, Columbus -

I understand your point and some of your arguements have merit, but these numbers are quite misleading. You only give stats for the last 5 year with no mention of X factors, like injuries, line mate injuries or other issues. You have Lids looking like he had a terrible year but dont mention he was a PLUS player (+21) this year and a -2 last year, Played 12 less games (and probably would have stayed out a bit longer if the wings had time) AND he was playing with a player in White that is a much less effective D-man than Rafalski. Don't like those numbers...lets examine Bert. He has been quite consistant when it comes to numbers but he only but up 38 this year compared to a mid 40's campain...well, again, Bert missed 11 games with back spasms and a sinus infection. He played on 3 different lines with probably 8 different guys, He's a half point player a game...add 6 points in those 11 games that he missed, and he is just about the same as he has been the last 5 years EXCEPT that he improved in some areas..He was a PLUS 23 this year compared to a -7. He had the best shot percentage in the last 5 years and he was lights out in the shoot out. Same with Z and Pavs. Pavs missed 12 games...he could have missed 20. He played with Bert and a very lazy Franzen all year but still put up close to a point a game ( 67 in 70) when he was injured. Zetterberg had a horrid start but was more than a point a game, and dominated games once he got his mojo going. These two guys do sooooo much in the defensive end that their value cant be measured until you see them play. I know people say stats dont lie...they don't........... but they can be presented in a way that looks good. You have to look at the entire picture and I dont think you did that. -

Franzen has a broken nose ?
Sycsa reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
Franzen's work ethic was never questioned while playing for Sweden. That is always the knock on European players, they play harder when it comes to International Play than in the NHL. It's always been said that the Europeans value International Championships higher than the Stanley Cup. When young Europeans are playing hockey, they dream of winning an Olympic gold, when young North American's are playing they dream of hoisting the Stanley Cup...that just the way it has always been. So of course Franzen is going to play harder and with more heart for Sweden...it's just how it goes... -

Here we go with that f***in cap hit again, which is nothing but a bulls*** way to manipulate the salary cap. There is not one damn person on this site that believes Francine will be playing the last 3or4 years of his contract. He is already BORED. and while he is BORED the lazy f***** is making 5.25 MILLION f***in dollars to ***** foot around the ice looking for Datsyuk or Zetterburg to work their ass off to feed him pucks for easy goals. At least Parise plays like he has some personal pride in his game and gives a s*** about his teammates. He now plays more like a jackass than a mule.
