Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov
pondrocket and 2 others reacted to Hockeytown0001 for a post in a topic
Reflecting on his NHL career, I know he'll always be remembered as a Wing. I was extremely bitter after he left, and I was also at his first game back in Detroit on December 3, 2003 where he was booed mercilessly every time he touched the puck. Does he deserve to have his #91 retired by Detroit? Ultimately, I'd have to vote yes. -

Incredibly skilled player, that despite his great numbers, never really met his full potential on the ice and took shifts off... Off the ice, an ingrate and primadona who held an organization (that basically gave him a career and life) hostage and was more interested in being "the guy", than part of something special... his number should never go into the rafters amongst true greats and sully the meaning of what it means to go into elite Red Wing history, which is reserved for only the best of the best -

Fedorov was the biggest reason i became a Red Wings fan. I really didn't know much about Hockey growing up in PA....we didn't have hockey in our schools and there was only 1 rink with an hour of me that i knew about.....and i didn't quite understand the rules much. But when i started watching it on TV as a teenager and saw this team of incredible skaters cycling around and controlling the puck, i thought it was pretty cool. At the center of that was Fedorov....this amazing, fast skater who glided around the rink like no other. Add to that Stevie Y, The Joe and Hockeytown and i was sold on being a Wings fan. Been hooked ever since. Fedorov was the best in his era. It's unfortunate that he left b/c his career and legacy suffered tremendously. -

I also wore #91 playing hockey growing up because of Sergei. -

He was my idol, when I used to play I used the White Nike skates and Nike logo'd Bauer equipment. My coach called me Sergei, lol. It seemed to me that Sergei liked being flashy and all the media attention surrounding him, in my opinion he wanted to be the "shining star" on a team full of stars and it wasn't happening so he parted ways. I lost a ton of respect for him after that. Remember the Nike commercials of the late 90's? The goalie prank calling him and saying "Your mother wears Red Army boots!" lol those were the days... -

Without a doubt yes. My favorite Red Wing in the 90's hands down. Remember seeing him play vs the Sharks at the Cow Palace in San Francisco his rookie season. I knew then he would be something special for us in the upcoming years. At one point probably one of the best skaters in the league hands down. -

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill
Drake_Marcus and one other gave a reaction for a post in a topic
$30m/4y for a player of Doan's caliber and age would be unforgivably stupid, regardless of the circumstances. I realize you want your toys now, but the future must be considered as well. It should be noted yet again that Yandle would cost an arm and a leg. There is absolutely no assurance that he could be had for any reasonable price. As such, a trade for him could very well do more harm than good. It should also be noted that Yandle is no replacement for Lidstrom. He is excellent offensively but mediocre defensively. Coyotes fans will admit as much. Guts had nothing to do with Semin's decision. I get the feeling that he simply wasn't offered a multi-year deal at any substantial price by anyone. Rutherford openly said that he wouldn't have risked bringing in Semin on a long-term contract. He's also a power forward, and those do not age well. -

My favourite player on the Wings in the 90s too. Such a shame it ended the way it did, because based upon every other criteria #91 deserves to be hanging from the rafters. I know the Sergei haters bang on about his lack of effort in the regular season, but when it mattered - when it really mattered, in the playoffs, he always showed up -

Semin signs one year, $7m deal with Carolina

Did I say Semin makes us a contender? No. In fact, earlier today I said Semin shouldn't be the highest paid player on any team - and I stand by that. Thanks for playing, though. -

Money On The Board Conundrum
WingsAlways reacted to 55fan for a post in a topic
Oh, I see. That's really odd. I'd tell them that if they want it, they need to get the lead out or we'll take our contribution elsewhere. Give them a time limit and get an answer or withdraw. The children's hospital had no trouble accepting our contribution. -
1 pointI feel so sorry for those of you who have only known the Wings of the last 20 years, but I'm going to try and talk you all off the ledge. Recent history has spoiled this fanbase beyond belief. no doubt, but just because we've hit a bump in the road doesn't mean we should just blow up JLA and ship our current roster off to the remaining 29 teams. We will be able to sign desirable free agents, we will do well in the draft, we just won't have the usual cakewalk to the playoffs. Now, sit down for this one: we may not even make the playoffs. You can either jump ship or take a Valium and wait for the season to begin and enjoy what you have taken for granted for so long.

$7.5 million for Doan is outrageous, and there's probably a GM out there who will give it to him. -

It's not the particular political views Thomas espouses that are the problem. I don't think anybody's been able to figure out exactly what those are anyway. The problem was that he embarrassed the Bruins organization and drew attention to his own views on multiple occasions during a time when his team should have been focused on making the Playoffs and getting a good seed. I think they were phasing him out in favor of Rask anyway. -

One final reminder, before this thread is toast. Politics is a no-go for LGW. Further posts with political issues can and will be edited or deleted without advance notice, and you could find yourself with a sit on the bench as a result. -

Love that, the guy did nothing wrong and focusing on family, friends and freedom away from hockey is never a bad thing. He is a great goaltender and deserves some respect. Could easily see him becoming a goaltender coach in Boston. -

Martin St. Louis. Class act, magic with the puck, and a heart two times the size of his 175 lbs. Honorable mention: Colton Orr. A little bit soft, but a goal scoring machine who skates like the wind blows. -

Zdeno Chara from the Bruins. I met him a couple times when he played for the Kentucky Thoroughblades of the AHL, I'm 6'3" and dude made me feel like a midget standing next to him lol.
