If our talent pool is so good, why resign Bertuzzi, sign Brunner, sign Samuelson, sign Tootoo, etc etc etc. I think Emmerton is the only guy we have that is a legit NHLer because of his spped. Hopefully, Brunner's speed will be as advertised as well. We need it. Holland not getting anybody this off-season has put us in sink or swim mode, which is probably going to be hard to stomach but is probably not a bad thing long term. At least we will know what these young guys can do instead of arguing about it!!!

I argue that if you knew anything about the wings, you now know that for years and years holding back talent in the minors was a luxury for this club. One that they are no longer able to afford i'm affriad. Whith so many oppertunities now available for these younger players, I feel that it will only thin our prospects pool even further.

The Hall is for the Greatest Hockey Players. The Rafters are for the Greatest Red Wings. Not just the most talented, but also those who have bled Red.

My favourite player on the Wings in the 90s too. Such a shame it ended the way it did, because based upon every other criteria #91 deserves to be hanging from the rafters. I know the Sergei haters bang on about his lack of effort in the regular season, but when it mattered - when it really mattered, in the playoffs, he always showed up

Reflecting on his NHL career, I know he'll always be remembered as a Wing. I was extremely bitter after he left, and I was also at his first game back in Detroit on December 3, 2003 where he was booed mercilessly every time he touched the puck. Does he deserve to have his #91 retired by Detroit? Ultimately, I'd have to vote yes.

I was going through my stuff on the counter this morning and came across the program from the Preds v. Wings elimination game. Enjoy a couple Tootoo tidbits, or Toobits, if you will.

Smith wasn't NHL ready until last season, he had maturity and dedication problems until his last year at Wisconsin, and that being the case he would need at least a year at the AHL to make sure those problems were in the past.

Whenever talk of sending a number to the rafters pops up, I like to rely on a very simple test to determine whether a number is worthy of being retired: is there even a debate as to whether the jersey is hung? If we're debating it, then the player didn't do enough to convince me he deserves to have his number retired. Yzerman was no debate, Lidstom is no debate. Fedorov (and Osgood for that matter, but that's another topic), there are arguments on both sides and for that matter alone I would not retire his number.

holland had always been able to draw free agents because they knew they were going to be contending for the cup. that isnt the case anymore. we are entering a different era in redwings hockey. the future doesnt look so bright. hopefully something happens to change that. personally i don't have as much faith as some people here in our prospects.

Feds, I'm pretty sure, was everyone's favorite player at some point. He was definitely a special player and future hall of famer. That's enough for him. Numbers in the rafters are for those that embody what it means to be a Red Wing, those that we want to use to define our franchise. Fedorov was fun to watch and was a key to our success but ultimately did not represent himself well nor did he spend enough years here.

Gotta love the comments so far, Enstrom wanted to stay in Winnipeg, but people are blaming Holland for not signing this guy.

Love that, the guy did nothing wrong and focusing on family, friends and freedom away from hockey is never a bad thing. He is a great goaltender and deserves some respect. Could easily see him becoming a goaltender coach in Boston.
