Datsyuk scores a goal off his head

God it's weird to see Radulov wearing the "C" on a team with Datsyuk on it. It's like bizarro world.

But the goal didn't count, so it was a missteak. Should have flanked it off his calf.

a waste of legal resources. there is no chance that the pa will win on this issue. their time would be better spent on trying to get the owners and themselves to the bargaining table

    New League?

What's to stop Chris Chelios from starting a new NA pro hockey league? And what's to stop that league from supplanting the NHL? Obviously I'm being a little silly. ...and yet, I'm kinda not. Discuss the idea of a "new NHL." (National Cattle League?) Is the idea appealing to you? What would you like to see in a new league? How would someone, or multiple someones, go about actually creating a new league here in North America? Or would they even be able to? (Is this idea at all feasible?) Discuss potential obstacles. Discuss potential awesomeness. Explore all angles.

But the thing is that I think people seem to forget is that these owners were so rich that they went out just for the fun of it or maybe they saw a good investment of some of their money and bought an NHL team....They are holding all the chips and I think they got to a point where they didn't want it to end up like the NBA or the NFL or heck even baseball now where all you had was a bunch of spoiled players demanding and getting 100's of millions of dollars when they aren't worth that. Why is it now I'm seeing comments that the AHL is so much better because no big money is involved. Or I see people talking about how college football is sooo much better because the players are playing their hearts out for the game and not the big money...to a point because ncaa players are playing for those big contracts but you see my point.

    New League?

Just get a big ol' ranch in for the players to live on (y'know- like cattle) and herd them over to the other guys' ranch for the games. Just find some rich ranchers (y'know- like in Texas). It'd be Bush League, but who cares?

Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k

ha ha yeah, good points. I did not mean that the analogy had no merit at all. It just kind of irks me that people are seemingly focusing on it as a slur, but never mention that Jimmy D put himself in that group.

    New League?

Aside from the world wide league idea, this all just reminds me of the XFL.

Some of the stuff he said was refreshing to hear..some was just dumb as s***. Opinions are like assholes and to be honest this has just turned into a never ending loop of people blowing smoke up other peoples asses. The lockout 8 years ago was brought about because of billionaire owners complaining about escalating salaries and huge operating costs. New CBA was done and everything seemed good until they started to find loopholes and raising the cap every year ( i know it was based on revenue). Put a salary cap in place and make it stick for 5-10 years and then re entertain the idea of it going up or down. As Jimmy D said the owners WILL NOT lose in this process and it wont be the Shea Webers and Zach Parises who will be anxious to get back to work..it will be the Paul Bisonette's and the Drew Miller's who will start to miss their pay cheques in the near future. Players are greedy but the owners are greedier...you don't get to be billionaires by giving in to people. It's a fine line between being greedy and making shrewd smart business moves. I'll enjoy watching my local WHL team play while these d bags figure out how to stroke each others egos some more.

Hasek has more of an argument for number 1 than anyoen could make for him all the way down at 5. The top 3 should be Lidstrom, Hasek Jagr without question..

The same people criticizing Jimmy D would be applauding any player that gave a "color" interview vilifying Bettman and the owners. Hilarious stuff around here these days. esteef

This got nothing to do with free speech. NHL can be viewed as a private club, which is free to fine its members (teams) per its own by-laws.

Ya I read this. Basically what I got out of it was, we still have no meetings planned but they are meeting to talk about last years money so here's to hoping (raises glass for a cheers) . Let me know when the NHL comes to an agreement, till then I'm on strike <<< this shuld be pointed at a picture of Bettman and Fehr

Freedom of speech is not absolute. I'm assuming you understand this, but if not, he's not speaking as an individual, he's speaking as the representative of an organization.....he got fined by the organization....he didn't get fined by any lawful body or something like that. Back on topic, I wonder what Datsyuk thinks...seems to me he took a bit of a shot at him indirectly when talking about players that went overseas to play....."we all know who they are"

The best thing we can do is not show up for a while. They're gonna give us empty arenas, let's give them empty arenas. The owners are too arrogant to realize that the most important aspect of any business is the customers

OK, all you financial types out there... I'm going to throw something out here, but I don't know if it would work for the NHL. Let me know what you think. I work for a company that has a profit-sharing program. We get wages- not great wages, but wages nonetheless, plus other benefits for working, but at the end of the year, we get a share of the profits in addition to that. It is based on the assumption that the company will make X dollars profit. If they do, the remainder of the profits gets split with the employees. If they don't, then they don't have to give us anything, but the one year that they didn't, they gave everyone a couple of hundred bucks anyway. Where I work, the sharing is based in units. You get so many units for longevity, evaluation scores, and number of hours worked in the last year. The units are totaled, the money is divided, and we all get a check. Last year mine was close to three grand. Not bad for a $12/hour job. So could this translate to the NHL? Players have their contracts. Owners pay the contracts. Then at the end of the season, they divvy up what's left above a certain amount. The owners get a sure profit or they don't pay the bonuses (which wouldn't count against the cap since they'd be even all around). If there is a profit, then everyone gets a piece of the pie. They'd have to negotiate what the level of profit is for there to be a bonus, and also what the terms of payment would be, but it would get everyone marketing the league in hopes of more money. Is this a viable solution? Or would it not work with something like the NHL?

Selänne said it best in one of his blogs, Wild GM signs 2 players to insane contracts then puts on his clown hat and claims that the players want too much money, whos the real ahole here? The players of the owners?

Greatest Red Wing Alum of all time

Mickey Redmond v Igor Larionov today, tougher than I thought. Larionov was clearly a better player overall, won 3 cups with Detroit and also scored one of the most iconic goals in RW history. But Redmond was a very good player on a very bad Wings team, but furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, has gone on to be the voice of the Redwings.
