Can we keep the talk about Murphy's alleged alcoholism to a minimum? I know it doesn't really violate any forum rules, and it's just an honest discussion, but we have no indication whatsoever that he has a drinking problem. For all we know he's a teetotaler. I'd hate to see LGW become known as the forum that dragged Larry Murphy's name through the mud for no reason whatsoever. I feel like the speculation started out innocently enough, but it's picked up some steam and it's suddenly become no longer speculation.

Absolutely and the proof is in the pudding. I'm sorry but there is zero percent chance Larry Murphy taped that Nashville intro while under the influence, yet he still was rambling, mumbling, and falling over his own words. He simply just had a little trouble getting what he wanted out sometimes. I can do the same thing time to time, I can understand this. Anyone does. He just did it at a more accelerated rate which makes me think he actually had a problem. I don't think awkwardness played a huge role, but it could have been influential. He did play professional hockey in front of millions, and has been on the air for over 10 years now, I can't say he still has the jitters being in-front of the camera. I think the biggest thing is what VM just said. I would HATE for these rumors to get into the media and run rampant.

It's still okay to discuss his 100% substantiated hot dog addiction, right?

For real. You would think Murph has had a couple of Mel Gibson moments from the way people around here talk about him. The way I see it is there is nothing that suggests anything other than the fact that murph is just awkward on camera.

My favorite Championship is 2002, but nothing will beat those late-90's teams. Stevie, Shanny, Fedorov, Ozzie, Lidstrom, Murphy, DMac, Lapointe, Larionov, Kozlov, Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom, etc. I miss those guys.

I'm surprised more people aren't on board with the idea of trying to land Iginla. I'm not going to be heartbroken if he doesn't arrive as I highly doubt it will happen, but it's just silly to believe he wouldn't still be an impact player even at his age for 2-3 more years. The Wings could use a real power-forward as well. Maybe Franzen could learn a thing or two from him, or at least become embarrassed enough to start trying a little harder again to live up to his now-irrelevant nickname. But again, the likelihood of him landing here is very small. I don't think it would have to do with us being strong suitors so much as willing suitors, if the other teams undoubtedly ahead of us aren't willing to pay the price. Still, unlikely at best.

Man, those videos remind me how intense the rivalry was. I remember every time we played Colorado my stomach would be in knots all day thinking about it. Haven't had anything like that since.

You have to take other team's fan boards into account. Fans are emotional and go with the good/bad at the moment of their respective team. For example, casual readers from other sites would likely assume we hate everyone on the team besides Datsyuk, Z (most of the time) and Howard (some of the time). Obviously that isn't the case, but I don't know how much stock you can put into reactionary opinions about a player such as Murray.

We're likely to be around .500 in the next 6 games, just like the whole season. Whether we make the playoffs will depend on the last two or three games, imo. That shouldn't decide whether Holland does or doesn't make a trade to improve this team's future.

He sucked on the PP point when he was here before. Are we to assume he's gotten better at it with age and less ice time due to injury? Maybe some here haven't watched Red Wings hockey long enough? esteef
