Unfortunately I was unable to watch the game after the first period. But seeing Vancouver only register 20 shots and the ginger twins get shut down and split up seems like a good start to me

I think we should target a stay at home dman. Ideally that is Girardi due to RH shot but doesn't have to be. We really need to be subtracting Quincey rather than Smith and we can DEFINITELY afford to trade our 1st this year with the plethora of prospects jammed in the pipeline. Franzen isn't worth much due to the contract length despite the cap hit - and we are screwed if he retires (compliance buyout). Edler is very expensive because he is on a great contract and is a top 2 defender on a team that needs him. I would prefer to do something like: 1st 2014 + 2nd 2015 + Quincey for Girardi at the trade deadline if NYR are out of the playoffs and can't re-sign all their guys under the cap. EDIT: Also no interest in Booth anywhere near this team.

Personally I find what Varlamov is accused of to be even more reprehensible than vehicular manslaughter. Someone who commits manslaughter had no intention of harming anyone, generally its a death as the result of an accident. If Varlamov did the things he is accused of, its not an accident but a willful act intended to hurt a woman. There are 2 sides to every story though and he has the right to defend himself so I'll wait until all the facts are out before casting any judgement on him.

Bottom line for me--we don't know what happened. Varlamov is innocent until proven guilty, and FOR GOD DAMN SURE so is his significant other.

I would build a sophisticated robot with the speed, strength, size, and cognitive subroutines necessary to perform superlatively on the ice. It would dominate the opposition and never tire. That's what I would do.

I don't know what I would do, but I want to see Nyquvist, Helm, and Tatar making up our third line at some point this season.

That's not the point though.. when things like this happen we shouldn't think of "varlamov the athlete" & only compare the incident to other athletes.. he's a person like any of us and what he did was wrong. There is no lessening the blame on him by blaming the victim.

I like your thinking, jimmy. Also, it just occurred to me that Lidstrom - Pronger would have resulted in a dozen Cups. I am very sad that this never happened, even if Pronger is a godforsaken ****** (and he is) and a sworn eternal enemy (and he is).

I've had friends screwed over on both sides of the issue- abuse victims who weren't helped and also victims of a judicial system that can (emphasis on can) be so to-the-letter anal that a crime is prosecuted where none existed. Considering that what everything I've heard is conflicting, I'll wait for the movie. (IOW wait to see how it ends and get the short version) I still say people need to learn how to defend themselves. This is not in any way blaming the victims; it is merely noting that assaults occur and need to be handled. Although the legal system is there for dealing with things after the fact, a good weapon and/or self-defense class helps during the attack itself. It may not be advisable every time, but it's good to be prepared. When confronted by a goalie, go five-hole. Hard.

This is a s***ty trade for Colorado for sure but sometimes I wish we would make a trade too so something would happen... big, daring moves isn't exactly something we've been spoiled with.

The plural of anecdote is not data. What happened to your friend is an absolute miscarriage of justice, but don't kid yourself into believing that what happened to him is the norm across the country, because it's not.

I actually think this makes more sense from the Avs perspective. In the long term at least. Downey is a pending UFA and the Avs have a number of key RFAs to resign at the end of the year. Talbot is a good bottom 6 guy who can play center or wing and is on a reasonable salary for the next few years. They obviously didn't have plans to resign Downey so they flipped him for a piece that can contribute now. Like almost any trade concerning a pending UFA, team with UFA = short term bonus, team with non-UFA = long-term bonus. Have to consider more than just the names. Trades are made for financial reasons as much as they are for performance reasons

Ya it's like he doesn't wanna try anything creative. I also think being flanked by alfy and one of the kids (Tatar/nyquist) would benefit him greatly as they have skill and creativity to help him out.

I never appreciated Alfredsson as a true hockey star. When I saw these first 14 games I easily understand why he was so beloved in Ottawa. He is an old version of Zetter with better shot. Excellent hockey IQ comparable with that of Dats.

If this is in bad taste, apologies, I mean no offense and he's innocent until proven guilty.... but, The avs are beating every one this year, including their families.

I... I just can't. I can't even. There is no smiley big enough. WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!11111111!!!!!!!!11!!1! He's righting all the ships. He's going to play in a CSKA jersey and a Red Wings jersey this year. I feel like all is right with the world.

1) When we are at a game, my husband is in a wheelchair. He doesn't need it all the time, but in crowds, if someone jostled him the wrong way he'd be down on the floor with no feeling in his legs (degenerative form of arthritis in the back). No one has courtesy for wheelchair fans. They walk in front of you, they run into you, they don't care. I'd love to be able to bring his service dog with us, but no way in the world would I do that. Poor Loki would be trampled to death. 2) I swear to God, if I have to hear that damned "God Bless the USA" song again, I'm going to barf. It's nice to honor active duty people, but do we have to hear that crap song...it's as phony as a three dollar bill. I hate it with a passion. 3) Karen Newman. I'm surprised the Humane Society hasn't busted her for cruelty to animals when she sings (or rather, butchers) the anthem. At least at home, I can hit the mute button. I know #2 is gonna get me in a lot of dutch with some people here, but I can't help it. That song is so nauseating it should be banned from the airwaves.
