    Merry Christmas, LGW

The wrapping is finally done, the stockings stuffed and Santa has dutifully eaten all the cookies set out, with not a lot of time to spare. A definite highlight of my year was finding LGW. Nothing better than passionate, informed Red Wing fans. Best board out there, hands down. Credit to the mods and all the fans who contribute. Through the ups and downs of the lockout (seems so long ago now, doesn't it?), the injury plagued shortened season, the unexpected playoff run, the crazy offseason and onto the so far disappointing 2013-14 season, it's been a pleasure. Merry Christmas to everyone here at LGW. Next up, Winter Classic and hopefully better health for the Red Wings and another good playoff run.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly how Babcock puts his lines together.

Best to rule us with an iron fist. Otherwise one day we may discover our strength in numbers and revolt!

I second that. Thanks to Matt and the mods for giving us this great place. Thanks to all the in-staters who have the info for all us out-of-market people. Thanks to the friends- new and old- and people who "watch" the games with me. For those who are celebrating today, may you enjoy time with family/friends and get joy from the gifts you give and receive (thanks, Loo! I'll be toasting you!). May you all have a wonderful 2014, filled with health, wealth, dreams that come true, and many Red Wings victories to celebrate.

I can see this being a big part of sports future. I mean they can put impressively functioning cameras with video in cell phones that weigh next to nothing and would fit snug into a helmet without adding additional weight or interfering with that players mobility. I think what holds it back is television and censorship, you can't ask players to watch their mouths but you can't have F bombs being dropped on live television on public channels either. In my mind, this is likely why we haven't seen more stuff like this during games, as great as it would be and even make the shootout a bit more interesting with player and goalie-eye views of it going down. I'd be happy with them bringing back the glow puck but i'm easy to please. It was kinda like watching Tron hockey.

We haven't won a Cup since Lebda left. Mere coincidence? I think not.

5 concussion protocols... 4 Griffins call ups... 3 strained groins... 2 fractured ribs... And a herniated disc for Z! Crappiest Christmas song ever...

It just blows my mind. He's won a cup, a gold medal, and a world championship. But yet he continues to play a washed up role player, and pairs up 2 defenceman who are a combined -20 on the season. Just insane. Worst period all year bar none, wake up and start to play. You're on goddamn home ice and the fans are booing you, the Lions did a great job of having the fans turn on them at home this year, don't follow suit!

This would be awesome for NHL ref accountability. If all refs wore these we could see what they see during games and understand how their positioning may affect calls etc. In a way it helps fans understand why refs made calls that night and also holds refs accountable if they clearly missed things right in front of them.

    Tootoo called up

Babcock claims to play the guys that work hard but yet Cleary is done and still draws into the lineup. Every player outplayed him last game but yet Tootoo gets sent down.

I usually play the "hate Canada, go SWEDEN" game in the WJC, but this year I'll have to actually keep a somewhat unbiased eye on Canada and root for Mantha. Hope the kid does well. And Sweden still ends up winning

Not a dumb question at all; a fine article from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail , on the possible importance of this particular appeal. I've also discovered a common thread in the appeal process thus far: Loui Eriksson.
