I was trying to be sarcastic, but yes I agree. I think Degrass backed himself into a corner by claiming that only 2-3 players are elite at their position. Heck I think there's at least 5 "elite"goalies in this league. And since there's 30 starting goalies in this league that means that theirs 60 top pairing D-men, and I believe at least 6 or 7 could be considered elite. And When it comes to forwards there's even more. I don't think the term elite should ever be pigeon-holes into one specific number. Personally I consider D and Z very elite, Kronwall no. Very proficient, but not a game-changer.

Agreed. Doughty is very much the same way. I wouldn't want the NHL to start looking like the NFL where every minor play is celebrated like they just won the Super Bowl, but these are young guys playing a sport they love. It's okay to have fun and show some emotion. I also like that he admits that he likes to throw hard hits so he regretted going after OV for a clean hard hit. Lucic's nut spearing and butthurt antics in the handshake line are much worse than anything I've ever seen Subban do.

If by "anything can happen in the playoffs" you mean "Cindarella teams don't win the Stanley Cup," then you are correct. LA's continued success has demonstrated that the team wasn't the fluke so many claimed it was a couple of years ago. Name a genuine Cinderella that has won it all in the modern NHL.

Killing penalties? We have many forwards who can do that. Miller is a decent 4th liner, but he's very, very replaceable. If anything, I think he's overrated around here. Our PK hardly sets the world on fire.

Souray can bang Kelly Kelly all he wants, but he'll never forget that night in Edmonton, when he was owned by Andreas Lilja. Orr actually was at one time in McGrattan's league and in others'. Not so anymore.

Kronwall isn't elite because he has never been one of the top 2-3 D-men in the league. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are still elite because at one point they were the top 2-3 in the league, until they declined to where they weren't, but sometimes they can still play at that level. Thus they are elite. What aren't you following?

I hate zombies and people dressed up like zombies and shows about zombies and pictures of zombies.

I miss the days of our biggest problem being whether or not Filppula and Hudler were going to shoot.*sigh*

Wow, this thread got carried away pretty quickly didn't it? Seems like there's got to be a way to say what you're trying to say, without being so matadorish. I'll take a stab at it. DeGraa55: I think the Wings will be just as bad as last year because we made no noticeable acquisitions to a team which has underwhelmed for 5 straight post seasons. Plus, I think injuries will be a problem again because older players (e.g. Dats, Z, Franzen, Knonwall, etc.) tend to get injured MORE and not less over time. Number9: I think the Wings will be better than last year because while we made no noticeable acquisitions, our young player were REALLY good last year and should be better this year. And while injuries may be a problem again a year from now, they couldn't possibly be as bad as last year because that was just insane. Plus, there's no way Jimmy will be that bad again right? He's never been that bad his entire career. We've got nowhere to go but up. All better.

Aren't the ads based off of your internet usage? For instance my ads are for mycomicshop.com as I bought some comics recently from there.

I would have to say Chris Osgood. The guy definitely had his faults, and had stretches where he was god awful, but what he was able to accomplish in his career here was on paper HOF worthy. People always seem to jump to the "Anyone could have won the cup with those teams in front of him" argument, but to me that isn’t fair. Many great teams have been eliminated by inferior teams due to goaltending (Detroit (Legace) vs Edmonton (Roloson)). Even after the 2 year stretch in 08 & 09, I still here people calling him garbage. I think on a mainstream level Holmstrom is a good pick, but I think most diehards give him the credit he deserves. I don’t think I have ever met a Wings fan who doesn’t give Holmstrom his due.

Did you read my post where I listed the changes for all the teams in the east? To repeat. Tampa added Stralman and Garrison on the back end, and Morrow and Brian Boyle up front, and Nabokov in net. Despite losing Purcell, they'll probably promote Drouin, so they'll definitely be better. Even with a healthy Stamkos for a full season and no other changes they'd be better. And what's your point about this years loss to the Bruins vs the 14 games we played in the previous years playoff? If you ask me, this year wasn't a true measure of our team, due to the decimated lineup and the fact that we never had our kids play with our top guys all year. Add into the mix subpar goaltending and a bunch of rookies who had never seen the playoffs before, and its no wonder. You will stick to your opinion of how this team will do this year and I will stick to mine, and that's fine. They're still a playoff team, and Im personally looking forward to seeing the Wings shut a lot of people up this season.

Tampa is definitely the best on that list. They'll be fun to watch for sure. I'll cheer for them more cause Stevie Y built them.
