If the team misses the playoffs, everyone should be accountable. From the coach right through the entire roster. The team is rebuilding yes, But the kids have some experience now. It is on them and the coaches to take things to the next level. If the team goes through a set back next season, there is no pass for anyone.

I have a very exciting update on the new coach. He's sitting in front of my friend at the Tiger's game tonight...

I understand the "gentlemen" agreement. After Cleary's performance last season, it's quite obvious that this guy just wants another paycheck and doesn't care about the development of the team. There is no way that he could contribute better than the players that are out of waiver options. Enough is enough.

It would've been fine if we were all drunk, but you had to ruin it.BTW, I am drunk, so I'm too lazy to type the media code, but here's the link to the full presser. https://youtu.be/GAZ7D0V0tKI

    Cory Emmerton

The first thing you need to know about Cory Emmerton is that he goes by the nickname Emdog

I guess my final thought. I thought the no jerseys thing was blown out of proportion and that TB media guy's article seems to back it up that its only a few sections. The media jumped on the nazi like rules in those sections and to get traffic made bold claims that it was the whole arena. I feel the Army Captain story is separate issue and a bad PR/Customer Service nightmare (that they fixed or backtracked on) and the only reason it became even worse of a story was because of the attention the no jersey thing was getting... if that wasn't going on, it would have been a small blurb story (and maybe it gets fixed with less attention, maybe not...) I don't want to fight with any more of my Wing's peeps about stupid crap in other cities. I am probably wrong about everything and only through the internet can I throw out my stupid opinions onto a message board. Peace, my brothers.

Cool hand Luke was famous for his pluck. His moxie. He wasn't notoriously fast at anything in particular. Get it together man. You're slipping.

get paid 2.5 mill for playing a handful of games? yeah, I'd want to do that for another year too....

The only reason why hiring Blash is a gamble compared to hiring Bowman and Babcock is because hiring Bowman and Babcock were 100% not gambles. Hiring anybody not Mike Babcock going into next season would have been some sort of a gamble.

Kinda weird going from a coach with a full head of hair to a bald one. Trying to get used to this will be a bigger challenge for me than anything else next season.

Babcock's hiring isn't the same thing as Blashill's. Using the "well Babcock was only in the minors for two years and ended up being successful" argument doesn't work for our situation. The Red Wings hired him AFTER he proved himself at the NHL level with Anaheim. He wasn't a gamble for us when we brought him in, he was an upgrade from Lewis. Ah, yes Dave Lewis, former assistant and a head coaching failure. Before that it was Bownman. A proven head coach. That's nearly 25 years of Red Wings history for you. In short; in about 25 years the Red Wings have hired 4 coaches. Scotty Bowman who was a proven coach and led us to success. Mike Babcock who took his Anaheim Mighty Ducks to the Stanley cup finals shortly before coming here. And then two other coaches. Dave Lewis who was pretty bad in the playoffs and now Jeff Blashill a man with zero NHL coaching experience. Blashill is the biggest gamble we have seen in 25 years. Lewis, Babcock, and Bowman were not. These are facts. Do I hope the gamble works out for us? Yeah. Still a gamble though. Something we haven't seen in 25 years in this organization.

So did Mike Babcock at one time. Every coaching hire is a gamble really. What veteran coach available would have been a sure thing and made more sense than Blashill?

A speck. The tiniest, teeniest, speckiest of specks. The last most speck of settled dust. The clock has ticked and ticked and ticked by, and along the rumblings of grapevines entwined with staff movements and acquisitions and rumour abound, gone is the distant cry that once rang... "We stink at the moment, seriously I'd throw Cleary in there. He would be better than what's out there at the moment". I believe I was a replier to say "Meh, I guess it couldn't hurt, anything to stop this run" so I'm no above reproach. In truth when we hit that inevitable point where maladies come out to play and our encouraging record goes down the toilet an unhealthy number of us look to Dan Cleary as someone who "will at least go and hit some people and actually really really try really hard to do things good". It's a bit like the end of A Few Good Men; Daniel Cleary's existence is grotesque and incomprehensible to us, yet there will be points in our lives, points when we never utter an audible sound, when we want him on that wall, when we need him on that wall. I'd just prefer it wasn't Cleary and was some other washed up old vet. Because seriously, any other washed up old vet is probably better than Cleary at the moment. EDIT: essentially a washed up old vet who didn't play an entire career in a style that destroyed his ability to continue a career.

This nonsense again? I bought tickets to Game 7 via Ticketmaster resale with a UK credit card. No issue but I probs wasn't in an area that I wasn't allowed in. However I do wonder what I would have done as I was with my partner and her dad (she's a Bolts fan). Would we have been separated? In short, I had no trouble from staff beyond a girl who wouldn't accept my ID for a beer and wanted a passport (although I had already bought a beer), just lots from fans around me who told me to "go home". He wasn't a nice man. He was an angry man. On a side note, in like, 2012 I went to the Bolts home opener in a Wings jersey (I bought the tickets the night before because they weren't selling - this was the days of Guy Boucher and his ultra-boring "trap" I believe. They went on to lose 7-4.) and the lady on the door said "Oh I don't know if you can come in wearing that." I laughed, it's a standard joke, I had Rays fans dissing my Tigers hat, that sort of thing happens, it's part of the inter-team camaraderie that you share as 'fans of sport'. I walked in. She didn't laugh however. She looked at me with serious intentions of asking me to leave. Once again it's lucky I was with my partner in full Bolts gear (well, not FULL gear, that would be silly. But tee and hat). In short (again), this doesn't seem to be a new policy, it's just they're in their first final since 04. Being there in the post-season, literally they seem to have everything riding on it this year - the city is buzzing with a real belief that they will win, billboards are changed seemingly daily (seriously they were all Stamkos, then suddenly Johnson, then "Bolts Win"), non-hockey fans (like my partner's cousin, uncle, and gramps) are keeping up with every game and even starting to become fans. I think they're doing everything to make sure it happens because if it doesn't, man that's going to be the biggest let down. The Hawks will move on, restock, go again next year, after all (kinda like us at the moment) it's not like they really need one. They've been pretty spoilt recently. Thinking of it, I hope Blash can get this sort of fire in us... just in a way that is everything opposite of Jon Cooper.

I'm confused. Aren't these guys both really big...and North American? That means they'll probably be really good right? Why did we fail to sign two of our best prospects? Classic Holland.
  20. 1 point
I think that was the case even before these two fringe prospects were cut loose. Take the best player available in the first round and then draft for need after that.

I thought I read Granato chose to not exorcise his option and was negotiating a new deal with the Wings and that he wanted to stay. Maybe things have changed?

It has as much to do with anything as my age, family hockey orientation, favourite brand of bell-bottom jeans, the amount of Kiss records I have stashed under my coffee table, or whatever else you seem to think applies to my qualifications to speak substaintially about hockey rivalries. I didn't say it was an attack. But you defintely tried to make your point my including assumptions about my age and up-bringing. Both of which are personal things. It would be like me saying this: "you must be like 60 if you remember the last time Toronto and Detroit played for anything more important than that one series in 1992". But I don't assume this.
