Karlsson winning the Norris again is kind of the death knell for that award for me. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but even Sens fans acknowledge that he had a bad start to the year. The award is allegedly "given to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position." By giving it to Karlsson this season in spite of his bad Sep-Dec they've removed both the "all-round" part and now the "throughout the season" portion as well. If they were giving the award for best two-thirds of a season then it should be Giordano's. Apparently hockey writers have about as long of memory as the younger members at hfboards. If you've played well in the last month then you're the greatest of all time.

I agree. I'm mostly just being a jerk. I don't want the competition to succeed at all. Even Stevie. I just can't cheer for the GM of the team that dealt the Wings their most recent playoff loss. Same way I won't be hoping for Babcock to win the Jack Adams anytime soon.

Completely agree. Not to mention the guy hasn't played in a full season since 2008 playing 70, 72, 35, 32, 49, 75, 68 in the last 7 seasons. This guy is trending downwards, and has a Weiss/Lecavalier/Clarkson situation written all over him.

Tool? A little too high brow and emotive for my taste. I prefer my metal a tad more...brutal?

Because the Wings are so soft that even a women would toughen them up. Hardy Har. Sports jokes that connect the perception of a weak athlete to a women are soooooooo funny.

I like that in theory, but what I think would end up happening is we would have 2 very one dimensional winners. The offensive winner would be someone who scores a ton but could suck defensively, and the defensive winner could end up being a stay at home d-man who scores 6 points a year. They should continue to do it the way they do it, but with more emphasis on the defensive side of things.

I wouldn't. I'm not that high on Green. I don't think he's worth close to that. In my opinion we should be going hard after Franson, and I f we don't land him, there's not a single other name out there that interest me. Go with the kids...

Captain Zetterberg wins King Clancy Award

Well deserved. Great leader on and off the ice. His contributions to the city of Detroit and around the world through Zetterberg Foundation have been tremendous. Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie King Clancy Award for community service goes to Henrik Zetterberg. http://www.wxyz.com/sports/hockey/red-wings/red-wings-captain-henrik-zetterberg-wins-king-clancy-award-for-community-work

I don't consider signing the biggest ufa's almost every year, then trade them because it ends up a bad contract being a great gm at all. You throw enough s*** at the wall, eventually something is gonna stick. What they gave up for Yandle will also come back to bite them in the ass at some point.

Agreed. If Bettman claims that "opening the expansion process" doesn't necessarily mean anything, you can guarantee the exact opposite is true. The league is definitely expanding. I hate Bettman but he's no idiot and is always thinking way ahead on any move he makes. The lockouts were a meticulously calculated financial decision, as is expansion. If this wasn't something he thought would bring more money to his owners, he wouldn't have even uttered the word.

Stevie has gotten them to the SCF. That's more than a lot of GM's have done lately. Congrats to him.

I'd agree with this. Vegas seems like a cheap gimmick and they're going to have some incredibly corny name too.

    OT Changes

Of course it does. Even in 3 on 3 hockey, they actually still play hockey. And while rare, 3 on 3 does happen in game situations. In a perfect world, players would never tire and we would never have to worry about working early the next morning and have continuous ot all season long. Ties don't fix the problem unless we keep the loser point. If there is no loser point, OT would be played safe so both teams can keep their point. That's boring. Shootouts as a last resort is not going to go away. 3 on 3 OT is the best way to ever prevent it from getting there.

I would have it 4 on 4 for 5 minutes and 3 on 3 for 2 minutes then call it a draw

The best example is how good Phaneuf was when he first entered the league, this guy was heralded as a young Scott Stevens he was that good of an open hitter. I don't need the usual suspects flower power Greenpeace folks to know what I'm expecting from hockey and what I don't expect..sissy hockey, gimmicks such as 7 outdoor games , Rogers instead of Bell, less hitting hip checks, almost non exciting ufa lists...are for sure not things that I associate with hockey neither are showboaters and other questionable grow the game crap. Anyhow Phaneuf will get dealt and I think he benefit tremendously from it...Toronto is just too tough of a market for most athletes especially if one has the burden of the C

Glad Babcock's gone. I don't think I could watch Miller-Glendenning-Ericsson for two and a half minutes of OT.

The game has all the hitting it ever had, AND it has all the speed and skill that it lacked during the clutch and grab era. Those who romanticize the "good old days" are speaking out of both sides of their mouth. They say they want hitting and aggression, but they willfully ignore all the hitting and aggression in the modern game? Why? Because they don't JUST want hitting, they want a PARTICULAR KIND of hitting. The violent kind. The dangerous kind. The kind they hurts people. Many people say they want the reckless hits out of the game, but they don't actually mean it. They all secretly long to see Scott Stevens out there blindside hitting guys in the head, because that was AWSOME! Except it wasn't...at all. Here's a "best of" video for the season, showing many of the big hits. Nobody took toughness out of the game, they just took recklessness out of the game. And lots of folks, contrary to what they say, don't actually like that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR93uEtbYE0

I think we can all agree on this finally: hockey in the 90s and pre 2005 was just so much better and more exciting it's not even close. But as long as the stupid BOG doesn't act or finally getting changed to guys like Mr. I, Pegula...we won't see an improvement.

    Will Wings Revisit Signing Phaneuf?

Crossing the blue line was a death wish in the 90s. Wish the game was still played like that.

    LGW Moderator Problems

We've confirmed that the recent influx of spammers are actual people, not spambots or anything like that. As such, there may not be much we can do to prevent the occasional attack. We have tools that make cleaning up these attacks extremely easy (one click on their profile and they're banned, content removed and ip-blocked). But unfortunately we can't use these tools until the spam posts are brought to our attention. That's where we need members to use the "report post" tool. When a post is reported, the system sends an email to each of the boards moderators and Admin. That way we get notified, even if we're not on the boards. One thing though, most of these spammers tend to attack the boards in the very late/early hours, when most people are asleep. LGW mods are just like everyone else, we have jobs and responsibilities that make it hard to be online at the time these spammers hit. So please understand that we will take care of the attacker as soon as we can, but it may be several hours before a mod can be online.

If you like hockey, you should marry somone who likes hockey, and who likes the same team as you. Hey, it's as important as moeny values, kids and religios views! (At least for a hockey fan)
