Slava Fetisov, former Red Wing defenseman and star of the wildly popular documentary "Red Army", wants Russian law to ban Russian hockey players from coming to the U.S. before their 28th birthday. You'll recall Fetisov's story. He bucked Soviet law preventing him from coming to the U.S. to play hockey, by refusing to play for their national team. In the documentary he explained how he wanted to be free to make his own decisions, make his own money, and determine his own future, without being coerced by federal authorities. And now he's a federal authority. And he's trying to restrict young players from having those very same liberties. Here's a thought Slava. Rather than using a draconian legal system to force people to stay against their will, how's about you work toward reforming said legal system, and equally restrictive and authoritarian economic policies, so that people will WANT to stay in your s***ty country. I'm interested to know why people think Toews in his prime is better than Z in his prime. Also why he's better than Z currently. I'm all ears honestly.

If Tatar and Nyquist replicate their numbers this upcoming season it's safe to say their perfomances weren't flukes and they will be top league players in a year or two. Additionally if it does happen, I would put both above Hudler in terms of potential. Hudler had a great season last year but he's late into his prime now and I'm not sure if there's anymore upside. Tatar and Nyquist are still young and can only get better. I know it's Tatar vs. Hudler but I had to throw Gus in there for added perspective edit - flukes not FLUES.. lol.

I think Gus has more talent to work with than Tatar, but I think Tatar makes up for that with how hard he plays every shift, and how involved he gets.

Zetterberg kinda answered that question a couple years ago when he shut him down and frustrated him for 7 straight games in the playoffs

Toes is no doubt the better player now. Both of them at their best are pretty well equal. Both amazing players capable of carrying their team on their back. I give Toews the prime vote simply because he will likely be at that level longer than Hank. Depending on what time of day you ask me, my choice for best in their prime would change. They are both just that good. If both were in their prime, and I were a gm who had to choose any current player to build a team around, Toews and Hank would be the top 2 options. Having said that, I would choose prime Dats and Hank as a pair over Toews and Kane any day. Eurotwins for life, yo.

I don't think of Toews or Z as snipers. I can kind of see what Quick is getting at regarding Toews, but he doesn't really belong in the elite sniper conversation. He's an all around great player, but if he were as great at being in the right place at the right time as Quick makes it sound, he'd be a more prolific goal scorer. Toews is very good at everything but not elite in the scoring department. Because he's Canadian and the captain on a multiple Cup winning team he does get overrated a bit with "intangibles." Kopitar is a similar kind of player but doesn't get nearly the same amount of hype. I thought the Getzlaf example was really interesting as well. It shows so clearly how elite players manage to get a shot off by pulling it in and changing the angle so quickly. It keeps it from getting blocked and catches the goalie off guard. Whereas an average forward would've ripped a shot right into the defenseman's stick or skates.
