    Game Day Threads moving forward

Hey there everyone - I've been absent lately due to my schoolwork as well as my work on Detroit Sports Nation. Just so everyone knows, I'm still around and will be moving forward, but I'd really like to thank NerveDamage and MabusIncarnate for their work on our GDT's this year. You guys are the real MVP's. I'll still be around to make a GDT every now and again, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all truly appreciate the work they've put in to make LGW the great site it is. Thanks again and LetsGoWings!! Mike (aka Hockeytown0001)

    2017 Draft

I've made this point several times this season. Scouts have said this one of the weakest drafts in a while. There's no reason to bury ourselves and destroy our teams confidence to get a top 5 pick that looks more like a top 20 pick in most years.

    2017 Draft

I had resigned myself to the fact we sucked and were about to get a high pick. I was looking forward to it. After these last three wins over some excellent teams I cant believe how much better my mood has been. I'm cheering for the wins and we will pick wherever. This draft seems to be all over the board and even the first three picks seem to have question marks. Maybe Nico seems a little more stable than Nolan or Timothy. Wherever we end up I think we could get a good one like Foote, Hague, or Rasmussen. Go Wings

This. I feel like ChristopherReevesLegs level of hate for Mrazek right now, is on par with a past user... number9's hate for Brendan Smith... Maybe it's because he's being hyped so much, the same way Smith was back then, but I really don't get why you would be so adamant on giving up on a player with such a high ceiling... Mrazek is still the goalie of the future, despite his struggles. He will find his game again and be a very good, possibly great starter for us for many years. People seem to forget that Petr is still just 24 (25 next month) years old. How old was Jimmy when he made the Wings full time? 24 or 25 wasn't he? Mrazek will be fine. I still say we trade Howard if it all possible, and go into next season with Mrazek and Coreau. Very good tandem in my opinion. I agree. The only way I'm okay with a late 2nd for Vanek, is if a decent prospect is coming along with it...

I think the problem with Blashill, and a lot of other coaches, is that he's so convinced that the NHL is too good, and too tight, that you can't afford to make any mistakes. As a result he tends to be too conservative with players (and strategy). This, in turn, can stifle players' ability to make plays. If you're always being reactive you tend not to have any margin for error. I advocate identifying your strengths, and doing what you're good at SO WELL that other teams have to react to you. In our case I think that means emphasizing our speed, skill, and aggressiveness. If you're attacking all the time teams will be on their heels and will be more likely to abandon their game plan as a reaction to you.

Hey, hey Hockeytown!! Amazing game last night. Awful start with many giveaways that ended up in our net. Green seemed off at the start and that shortie was the result of poor passing trying to get into the offensive zone. Really can't blame Coreau on those goals, but luckily our boyz scored a ton of goals backing up Petr, and came back at the end of the game to take it to OT, to have Vanek and Nielsen finish it off in the shootouts. Jensen keeps looking amazing with that puck handling and speed. Still a lot of room for improvement but at least we're racking up points. Didn't I say Sheahan was going to get finally on the scoresheet? Only 1 point but was a +3 in the game. Visiting the Michigan Humane Society Pet adoption center yesterday, playing with the doges and making a donation did the trick. There are a bunch of cute puppers there that are looking for a home, and unless Sheahan starts putting up more points we have to make our part as well. Celebrated a bit too much last night, my phone died and missed the last bus so had to walk almost 5 miles back to where I'm staying, still, it was no thang... Awesome atmosphere at the Joe, I think I prefer the upperbowl where the hardcore fans at. They really get into the game, the perks of seating amongst season ticket holders, I guess... Thanks for all the love and your funny posts about my trip, hoping Mabus' go fund me takes off and can stay for more games lol. I already made plans to stay till the leafs game. Go get the W against Buffalo, boyz. ND signing off. But first and foremost LGRW!!!

    Shattenkirk

He does not have an NTC or NMC. Sounds like these are the teams he would be willing to go to and be extended. Still rumor, but Dregs is pretty reliable.

Because we enjoy watching our team play and will accept a couple hard years to set the team up to be a true contender again. This 4+ years of trying to rebuild on the fly has shown itself that its not going to work and actually hurts the franchise in the long run. The highest payroll in the league for a team that plays uninspiring most nights and has very little top young talent. You need to build in through the draft in the salary cap NHL and cant rely on getting lucky in the 5th+ rounds like they did for Dats/Hank generation. You need those franchise players drafted in the top 10

What skill set? Sorry, but I just don't see it. Never have with Marchenko. He's decent in the defensive zone, that's it. Also, size is useless unless you use it to your advantage. Marchenko doesn't. I see Alexey Marchenko as the defense version of Drew Miller. Way over valued for his defensive play, that really isn't that good, and is terrible at generating offense...

Well there's those that want us to miss so we get a high pick and kick ass later. And then there's those who think we're terrible all around, want to be right about it, and the moment we win a game or two, disappear for a bit because they probably didn't like the fact that we won. I think the latter is probably more amusing to ask. "Why?"

Hopefully Sproul becomes that guy and they become an extremely solid #3/#4.

Coreau has only played 9 NHL games. We're not really considering him our backup already, are we? I've liked what I seen from him, but it's definitely not the type of performance to start planning the future around. He has a 3.04 GAA so far. That's nothing to get too excited about. He looks like he might be a good backup in the future if we traded someone, but to say that he's already stolen Mrazek's spot is crazy to me.

To be honest the defenseman I like least of all in my pairings is Dekeyser. Not because he's bad but because I don't like him on the top pair. However, none of our other left defenseman would do any better there. But generally speaking I care more about usage than pairings anyway. In general I'd use Ouellet-Sproul for offensive zone starts, DK-Green for neutral, and Smith-Jensen for defensive zone starts.

Vanek for 1st round pick. Not the stupid 2nd round 60th crap pick from Chicago (because you know they'll end up being the last pick). Anyone who actually wants a 2nd round Chicago pick officially has no room to criticize Holland.

A high pick is more important than being swept in the first round. The number of pts out isn't the problem for the Wings. It's the fact that are so many teams are in the hunt. They need more than one team to take a dump. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Helm skated in place of Miller on the 4th line today with Abdelkader and Glendening... Is Blashill seriously starting to get it?... The only other change I would make with the forwards, is move Larkin to center and insert Jurco in place of Sheahan...

Bowman's teams weren't goos defensively because they played it safe, it was because they always had the puck and when they didn't they pushed to get it back Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

So Nerve, you will be at the Toronto game? Just wondering because I make a bet on every single Wings - Leafs game with my buddies, but if you're going to be there I may up the ante for this one... "Case of beer?" "How about 10 cases of beer?" "Why so confident?" "Oh because NerveDamage will be at the game." "Who?" "Never you mind... Bet?"
