Except, they haven't faced any teams as good as the 2009 Ducks and the 2009 Penguins. The only tough opponent on paper was Washington, and Washington are essentially paper champions. Besides, we'll see how the NHL schedules games 1 and 2 of the Finals.

I mean, sure. Taylor Hall hasn't carried a team into the playoffs. But, personally, I don't feel he should be judged based on that. It's arbitrary, it ignores the fact that the Oilers organization was Clown Shoes Central for the better part of the past decade, and it ignores the fact that the 2016-17 Devils were simply not a playoff team. (Honestly, I'm not convinced the Oilers have learned anything or become more competent in any really meaningful way. McDavid has singlehandedly saved that franchise, IMHO.)

Hall is a very good player on a very bad team. Just like it wasnt Halls fault that NJ missed, its not Larsson that put Edmonton over the edge. Alarming that that needs to be said

Classic Ken trade down. I'll take Mantha + Bertuzzi over Mirco Mueller anyday.

Saarijarvi plays chippy for an undersized guy as well. I'm a big fan of Jeff Mareks, and he's super high on Joe Hicketts. Hoping that's a good sign. I doubt any of them are the next Erik Karlsson, but hopefully at best one is a guy who can compliment a legit #1 or hold down the 2nd pair. Just gotta find the #1, somehow, someway

The only thing I would add to that is the "McDavid effect". What I mean by that, is having him gives the team an advantage in attracting new pieces (Lucic is a perfect example).

You know what the sickest thing about the Penguins repeating is? They're essentially the 2009 Red Wings. With all the injuries, they keep winning, they keep being great at puck movement, they still have good goaltending and they've got the best coach in the NHL. The 2009 Red Wings didn't repeat. But this Penguins team is probably going to do it.

Havent watched enough of Sambrook, but he sounds good Cholo had a rough first year in the NCAA numbers wise, but from what I hear he was relied upon heavily for a freshmen Hronek and Saarijarvi are very exciting players. Both potential Rafalski/Krug types. Hicketts should be in the conversation with them too. Issue with these 3 is the size obviously. Choosing the right complimentary partners to play with them should mitigate that though. Im thinking Stuart/Methot types. XO/Jensen could be our answer already.

I really hope they don't. That would just open old wounds that haven't and may never fully heal from 2009. That loss was on the Wings, they had it in the bag and collapsed, but that doesn't help things. Having them be the last team to repeat... WHY THEM?? The repeat in '97-'98 is one of the major things we have left from the dynasty days and Stevie era.

I don't see how the Preds beat the Pens without Johansen. Pens are going to be the first team to repeat since the Wings did it. First 2009 and now this. I hate the Penguins.

Why are you trying to make it sound like people want Howard more then Bishop with all things things being equal? You are really simplifying something that is much more complicated. If we could trade Howard and get rid of his last 2 years, and acquire Bishop for 2 years at the same cap hit, I'm guessing there are not a ton of people that would have an issue with this. This is however not the situation. The reality of the situation is that Howard is under contract for 2 more years, Bishop is under contract for 6 more years. By the time we become contenders, Howard will be long gone. With Bishop, if he were here he would likely be an over paid 30+ goalie in about 3 years and you would start to crap on him just like you do on Howard. Do you see the difference?
