Right, this is where I was coming from before. We want a top three pick, obviously, and it'll suck if we don't get one -- but this is going to be a really good top ten where the players that are taken in the 4-8(+) range will be better than your average consolation prizes. Even if we pick, say, 8th, there's a good chance we're getting a player who could've cracked the top three in last year's draft. Hell, I'm not as high on Oliver Wahlstrom as most people seem to be, but he'd be a huge addition to our thoroughly underwhelming prospect pool. To quote Kris Draper: "This is a great draft." https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2018/02/10/detroit-red-wings-kris-draper/323124002/ And there's nothing to say Vegas won't crash out of the playoffs, causing their pick to become a mid-1st. Which would be all kinds of great. Evan Bouchard + Bode Wilde/Joe Veleno/Rasmus Kupari? That'd be an outstanding 1st round for any organization.

Even with Dahlin, we're probably not a playoff team next year. Can't seem to find it right now, but I remember reading a Holland quote a few weeks ago, something to the effect of "The team will be changing, but I'm not really looking at next year. I'm more focused on 2019, 2020." I believe he also recently said the organization wants players who can help us four or five years from now -- the implication being that while everyone wants a really quick turnaround, The Powers That Be are pretty much treating this as an actual, honest-to-God rebuild. Not a scorched earth teardown, but also not a we'll-be-back-in-a-year "reload." I'm tired of Holland, but maybe we're starting to see a Holland -- or an ownership-Holland dynamic -- that we haven't seen before. Dunno if that *excites* me, but it does give me some hope.

GDT Detroit V. Ottawa; "Tank" Battle!

It is SO encouraging to see the kids taking this team over! Add Dahlin (or any of the top 10 this season) PLUS three more late round 1st picks, and we'll be on our way! PLUS be an attractive team for JT! SUPER HYPE! (visually as well!)

At that time the Tigers were a WS calibre team. They were stacked themselves. The bullpen was mad with JV leading, Max Scherzer, then some younger studs. I mean... as an owner he would have been mad not to focus on getting them a win. Now that time has passed, they're going full rebuild. I don't think it proves he concentrated on the Tigers over the Wings any more that saying when the Wings had Yzerman and Fedorov and other generational talents he concentrated on them more than the Tigers. Basically if there's not much to work with, focus on where there is

Ahhh I am still thinking we are the Philadelphia of this draft and will get the number 1. Cause God wants Gordie on his first line for the heaven on ice game.

Sad thing for Jimmy is, he has NO NTC for next year. He could end up in the dessert. Let's start looking at which team(s) need a goalie. I am not so sure goalies are guaranteed to have more value at the TDL, unless a team gets the injury bug, but if a nice offer comes up over the summer, take it! Buffalo and the Isles are in need for a better starter than what they have. Arizona as well...

Yep, Howard has got to go next. Hopefully during the trade deadline next year. Argued for him over Mrazek the last year or so. But far as I'm concerned he's officially got the word "Trade asset" written all over his face.

While I preferred Howard over Mrazek, and I think he's a better goalie than people give him credit for, I am not opposed to trading him next year. I thought trading Mrazek first was the right thing to do. Sign a decent replacement this summer, and then trade Howard next season, assuming it's for a decent return. I think Holland has played this one well so far. In fact, I think the post-streak Holland has done pretty well, which is why I am not opposed to bringing him back.
