TORTORELLA: "OK, we know how to beat these guys. Their D are slow and old and predictable. Let's go over the names. First we have...*squints*...Wait, did they overhaul their entire f***ing blue line? Who the f*** is Libor Sulak? What the f*** is going on here?"

Nah, this team is going to surprise a lot of folks this season! Don't get me wrong, I'd love a shot at the #1 pick, but I just have a feeling this team is going to surprise a lot of folks this season! If we can get our goalies to over-perform, I just have a feeling that this team is going to surprise a lot of folks this season! Oddly enough, these young kids may come in and feel they have to fight to stay in the NHL, and that just be the antidote the allows this team to surprise a lot of folks this season! Oh, shoot ,sorry, I thought I was over in the "Korean Spam" thread! Seriously though, as much as most of us want to win the Jack Hughes lotto, I am sure we'd all be ecstatic if this team ran away with the Eastern Conference and really did surprise everyone! Anyhow, I won't be watching (have to drive to work) but I will be listening!

Reading this https://www.mlive.com/expo/sports/erry-2018/10/6f8c66ba322652/dylan-larkin-ready-to-lead-det.html#incart_river_index sure sounds like Larkin has learned a lot these past 3 years. IF he is this driven and refuses to let off the gas I see him as the next one to wear the "C" From the linked article “As a young player in this organization, I want that,” Larkin said. “I don’t want to spend my whole career not in the playoffs and not playing big games. All these players’ (photos), they’re up there because they’ve won big games. I can’t tell anyone else to get better, I’ve got to try to get better myself.” “I need to be better on the power play (only one goal and seven assists),” Larkin said. “I need to do a better job of getting shots through. I also want to be better in overtime. With my skating ability I should dictate the pace of overtime." “It’s not easy, it takes time to develop in this league. I’m not even close to where I want to be as a player.” Above quotes say he has recognized his weaknesses and is busting his hump(my assumption) to fix his holes and develop as a player and leader. I applaud his honesty and look forward to see if he does as he says he will do. Plus if the guy that used to wear #19 comes back he definitely could teach a lesson or 2 about getting to the next level to Mr Larkin.

Larkin will be named the next Detroit Red Wings captain next season.

Kind of surprised they elected to scratch Jensen and go with 4 rookies...

This simply isn't true... IF we were to luck out in next year's draft lottery and land Hughes, and IF he becomes an 80-100 point player, that doesn't necessarily mean he's captain material. I would consider Larkin / Hughes to be a very similar situation to Toews / Kane. Kane is the much more skilled player, but Toews "Captain Serious" is much better suited as the captain. You, being a Toews fan boy, should know that you don't need to be the best player on the team to be the captain...

I'm not sure what you are not understanding. For fun, I'll respond to your two questions anyway: - For determining what goalie performed better, I have no idea, not enough information....looking at a team's win/loss doesn't help that much....takes a team to win or lose. I get what you are trying to do, but it makes ZERO sense. I think you are looking at standings and saying whoever is ahead of another team is "performing better" - that's not the point of standings, the point is who finishes ahead of the other (which only happens at end of year)......see my response below to your next question. - The rationale for the 20-21 team being ahead of the 19-18 in the standings is because they have earned more points. The logic is that a team hasn't earned any points until they've earned them. You can't assume the 19-18 team is going to win games they haven't played yet. That's the logic of the way they do the standings. I tend to agree with that way, but I totally get the other side of the argument, but at I've said many, many times, I don't care...no one really does as it's meaningless for the reasons already suggested.

Why would Larkin have to give up the C just because we draft Hughes? The captain doesn't necessarily need to be the best player on the team. Larkin has all the leadership qualities you'd want in a captain. Hughes could be an alternate captain, or maybe not get a letter at all... Matthews doesn't wear a letter, and it looks like they might give the C to Tavares next season. Matthews will likely get an A if that were to happen though.

Yeah, to what we got for Tatar. A first rounder would be nice... but I'm somewhat skeptical. Guess it depends on his season - which will be a question mark w/ Z gone.

Could be, but I doubt it. Going several years without a captain would be dumb, IMO.

Yeah, I have noticed that, which kinda sucks. However, all bets are off when Yzerman takes over. He'll want to make a mark on HIS team! His first move, Nielsen to Tampa for Foote...
