Haha. But I will remind you that that same source was right about the Smith and Kindl trades a bit before they happened. But I admit it again, it's just talk, and I said so in the rumor thread. The one thing that is guaranteed true is my buddy Dan does play pickup hockey with Russ Baumman' s dad. I think it's pretty cool when I hear rumors and talk from him. Whether or not they happen doesn't matter. It's cool and makes for good hockey talk. And on the occasions things he says do happen, then it makes it super cool. But I'll take the butt of your jokes, after things I've been through, I enjoy your jokes and jabs. Life is too short to take anything like this to heart and get all offended and mad. I love you guys!

Extension choice if you were GM.

If you're talking about an extension today, it would be Blashill, no question. I want Nyquist and Howard traded at this year's deadline. I'd be okay with either (all three) returning next season though. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually think Blashill is a good coach, has done a really good job with the young players, and a great job getting a team that was expected to be a bottom feeder to be competitive every night. Ideally, I'd like to see Nyquist and Howard traded at the deadline, and Howard re-signed in the offseason at a similar (maybe slightly less) cap hit, for 2, 3 years max. Nyquist, I'd just assume let him test free agency, but if he wants to come back at a similar, short term deal, sure, why not.

    2019 Draft

If any of Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, or St Louis finish last, they should be made to draft 31st.

    2018 Prospects Watch

Last season I learned that I really can't bring myself to root for losses unless we're solidly in the basement with, like, ten games left to play. Also: LA, St. Louis, Florida, Anaheim. And Montreal will probably fall back into the mix. And Buffalo could easily fall back into the mix. Oh, and Colorado owns Ottawa's 1st round pick. Relevant:

It's that time of year again, and again I am inundated with messages asking me how to fend off a wild Canada goose [Latin name: Branta canadensis]. I will summarize here so that I do not have to respond to each PM individually. People think geese are azzholes, and they are. But they are predictable azzholes who understand certain body language. Here's some advice on how to dominate your next goose: If you're an American get your gun and shoot it. If you're Canadian... find an American (just kidding). Don't: Break eye contact: Eye contact is super important to geese and if you look away, they take it as a sign of weakness and an invitation to attack and dominate you. Sunglasses are bad. Take em off, nobody thinks you look cool anyway idiot. Run away: Don't turn away or try to run away for the same reasons as above, the goose will take it as a sign you are afraid and attack. Be silent: Geese talk to each other all the time to tell each other where they are and what's going on. They are freaked out by silence. Yell obscenities at the lil c-u-n-t. Personally I like to yeet at them. Back down: If they come at you, don't back down! Fight that azzhole goose, or it will be emboldened to keep attacking you or others. Do: Spread your arms out: You look bigger and it's a gesture of aggression. If you advance on them like that they may recognize your ALPHA status and back down. Hiss: This is aggressive and they might decide to back down. If they come at you, grab them by the neck: Geese totally hate being grabbed by the neck. Don't grab and squeeze, just grab lightly and they'll get freaked out and run away. If you're a real bas-tard like me, you can windmill them by the neck and hammer throw em for distance plus points. Grab their beak: If you're nimble enough you can grab them by the beak when they come into bite you, they also hate this. Bonus if you get them with their beak open, geese tongues are cool to touch. Also remember you're a 100+ lb Ape and it's just a stupid goose. The worst thing it can do is nip you with its beak or wing punch you, which doesn't even really hurt... Although this one time a Goose flew directly into my mom as she was trying to get into her car. She said it was like getting hit with a medicine ball. That goose was a real bas-tard. Once you start to notice the habits and body language of geese, you can actually end most conflicts peacefully without having to fight. Hope that helps

    2019 Draft

All of this sort of begs the question: Should the draft odds have some sort of statistical coefficient or multiplier that takes into account a teams recent success? For example, the Penguins are only one year removed from a cup. Regardless of how bad they are this year, that should have some bearing on how early their ball drops. I'd like to see it.

I voted for James Russell. But I'd be happy having all three back. I'd also be cool with an extra 1st and 2nd rounder this June.

Extension choice if you were GM.

I gotta go with Blashill. I've been quite vocal with my displeasure - however lately things seem to be trending in the right direction, and unless there's a certain bonafide coach who Holland is rumored to have a front runner to replace Blashill with...I'd just assume keep him rather than replace him with another unkown guy, or someone like Yeo who's not an upgrade.

And Todd McLellan and Randy Carlyle could be in the hot seat in Edmonton and Anaheim, respectively. What is up with the West, man?

    2018 Prospects Watch

Not sure what to hope for...Continued success, or having 'last years' Wings show up where we start having some losing streaks (thus confirming missing the playoffs). What's scary is how many of our rivals are off to a bad start...The thought of the Pens/Hawks/Oilers winning the draft lottery makes me wanna vomit. EDIT - http://www.tankathon.com/nhl

The thought's definitely crossed my mind. Same with Ericsson. Of course, if we're being honest, the team hasn't been playing especially good hockey lately and is probably due for regression with or without Helm and Vanek and Ericsson.

I kinda like Blashill's phrasing, tbh. I see it as putting the ball firmly in the player's court, telling him he controls his own path. No unnecessary roadblocks; if he dominates the AHL next month, he gets called up. Wasn't the same with, say, Mantha, who was more of a project (IMO). He's 18 years old. His skating is fine and will improve. His non-goal-scoring game is actually pretty good for someone who's billed as a pure sniper. I said as much pre-draft, scouts said as much pre-draft, Blashill has said as much post-training camp. He's 18 years old. You're trolling and I don't know why I'm taking the bait.

I sort of expected Veleno to dominate the Q a bit more than he has. He's currently 18th in scoring at 1.35 ppg. And you're right. They are the same age. Zadina is 2nd on the Griffins in goals scored. Playing as an 18 year old, against men in a league that's hard to score in on a team that has trouble generating offense most nights. With electrifying centers such as Holmstrom, Ehn, Turgeon, and Camper. Veleno's playing against little french boys who can barely do Movember. So, I don't know why anyone can currently be disappointed in Zadina and so high in Veleno in the same breath. But whatevs. I'm sure they'll both be more than fine. On another note: McIssac's a ppg player right now in Halifax. 15th in defensive scoring despite missing a considerable amount of games. Kid's a gem.
