Red Wings Hirose - Veleno - Zadina Loggins - MacLeod - Kuffner Smith - Pearson - Lukosevicius Casey - Soderblom - Yetman Regula - Seider Berglund - Lindstrom D'astous - McCrea Romeo Fulcher Maple Leafs Korshkov - Der-Arguchintsev - Conrad Robertson - Elynuik - Brazeau Stotts - Abramov - Alistrov Nelson - Bradley - Estephan Kivihalme - Hollowell Rubins - Lindgren Kral - Larochelle Scott Zhukov I'm sure of two things... 1. Over half of that Leafs roster is a bunch of made up names. 2. Wings are going to destroy the Leafs tonight. I don't care that it's a Prospects Tournament. F*** the Leafs!

The HYPE is REAL So the competition for the 7th D-spot is like Ericsson v Daley v Bowey v Kaski v Hicketts v Cholowski v Seider Does anyone have updates on injuries? Aren't Ericsson, Daley, and Greener all questionable to start or something? Hopefully this is the lineup by the end of the year: Dekeyser - Hronek Nemeth - Seider Cholowski - Bowey Kaski/Hicketts

Did you see the lettering on the back of the jerseys? Guess we are going straight style this year.

Veleno WILL be a really good 2C.

I knew this is what you meant. You get a player that puts up 70+ points and you suddenly want to trade them because they will command a big pay day? To me that's really dumb. You want good players. You need to be willing to pay good players. What exactly would you want to trade one of them for? If you're trading for a top pair defenseman, you're going to have to pay him that or more. If you're trading for anything less, it's a waste.

Here are the more or less interesting takes form the video: - he is proud wearing the Winged Wheel - he wants to compete with the "big guys", wants to be with the Red Wings - His role model is Scott Niedermayer, but he also loves the play of Roman Josi and Zack Werenski - he was raised in Erfurt and was then invited by Mannheim at the age of 14. His parents gave up their Jobs and moved with him. - the moment Yzerman took the stage his mom padded his knee and said "Now it's your turn." - he usually takes his time with things, doesn't feel any pressure. He is usually calm on the ice. - says it's an honor to represent Germany in the NHL - huge amount of talented prospects in Detroit - learned a lot during the prospect camp - he says he didn't saw a lot of the City of Detroit, but that you're near to Toronto and Chicago, that Lake Michigan isn't so far away and that there are areas around Detroit that are beautiful for sure. () - he still needs to get used being more in the center of media attention. - he is a little afraid, but also very excited coming to North America - is excited for the camps, they will decide what comes next after it - he doesn't rule out coming back to Mannheim, but it's only the third option after the Red Wings and the Griffins

The trouble with projecting either of Veleno or Rasmussen a few years from now is that we're all really susceptible to recency bias. A year ago people thought Zadina was making the big club out of camp too. One year, and a "meh" AHL season later, and people have a totally different perception of things. If Veleno struggles against AHL competition things change. If he breaks into the NHL and dominates on the wing, a la AA, then things change. If Ras starts in the AHL and dominates as a center, things change. In theory I obviously agree that our centers don't have to be elite offensively if our collect group of wingers are. I made that point to begin with. But as I've been saying since before the draft, center is our weakest positional groups right now and a lot is up in the air. We have one quality NHL center and one quality center prospect. That's it. So determining the strength of our center group in 2 or 3 years, with or without a Brayden Schenn is pretty tough.

Yeah, I like Rasmussen better on the wing.

That would depend entirely on how well Joe Veleno turns out. But yeah, in theory that could be really good. Though, if Veleno turns into a solid 2C then you could still draft a winger, like you're talking about, and put Rasmussen at 3C. I'd still really like that top 9 in theory.

What if next summer if we draft a gamebreaking winger -- let's say Lucas Raymond -- and then pry Brayden Schenn away from STL in free agency? Center core becomes Larkin, Schenn, Veleno. Top-9 winger group becomes Athanasiou, Bertuzzi, Mantha, Raymond, Zadina, [insert forward of choice]. Maybe at that point you trade a winger for a defenseman, or maybe you stand pat with the defense. Either way, that forward group could be pretty filthy. In goal, sign Jacob Markstrom. Markstrom-Larsson tandem.

I was a bit dissapointed of Hirose´s second game, I thought he struggled a bit against a rougher St louis team, but got better in the last half of the game. Pearson did well with the additional time in the second game, solid in his first.

Please don't. Art Regner is an ass...

Veleno and Seider have both looked really good out there. I have nothing really negative to say. Zadina has looked frustrated at times. His timing still seems to be a bit off, and he whiffed on a couple of shots that last game. Kuffner has looked great. He has a great shot and great release, that we really didn't get to see in the short stretch last year. Smith kinda reminds me of Abdelkader. He's gonna need to grind and be nasty to make this team. Peach Pearson has been a pleasant surprise as you say. Looks like a typical try-hard gamer out there. I think with Smith, Hirose, Kuffner, and Pearson you can tell they're a bit older. They've played with great pace and seem to be a step ahead transitioning up and down the ice. The player I've most been surprised by is Larsson's teammate from Denver Lukosevicius. Kinda like Pearson, he's a habitual try-hard and has been getting rewarded for it. I'll be interested to see how he plays for the Griffins this year.

I was out of town for a few days, so wasn't able to watch the games live. I was finally able to catch up and watch the first two games yesterday / last night. Great showing from most of our top prospects. Stats through 2 games... Goals / Assists / Shots / +/- Veleno - 4 / 0 / 11 / -2 Zadina - 0 / 4 / 7 / -1 Hirose - 0 / 2 / 0 / -2 Kuffner - 2 / 2 / 3 / 0 Smith - 1 / 1 / 5 / +2 Pearson - 1 / 1 / 9 / +1 Seider - 0 / 2 / 4 / +1 Lindstrom - 1 / 0 / 2 / -2 Regula - 0 / 0 / 2 / +1 The player I've been most pleasantly surprised with so far is Pearson. He's played really well in the first two games, last game in particular. Hopefully he can push for a spot as a bottom six center in the next year or so. Smith has been decent as well. His skating seems to have really improved over the past couple years. Pretty much every other player has played as expected, aside from Zadina being the setup man and Veleno being the trigger man on that top line... Hirose has looked good, and I know he's more of a pass first guy, but I'm a little surprised he doesn't have a single shot on goal in the first two games. Kuffner has looked good as well. Much better than that stint at the end of last season with the Wings. Of course, that's to be expected with the massive difference in level of competition, as well as role on the team. As mentioned by others, Seider has looked really good, makes smart decisions with and without the puck and looks extremely poised out there. Lindstrom has flown under the radar, which I guess is a good thing for a defensive defenseman. Same goes for Regula. I will be watching the game live tonight for sure. Can't wait!

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

Yes, but I would still prefer him playing in GR. I think first pair minutes in GR until the TDL and than on the second pairing in DET

on pp he was real good in both games, finding openings and getting his shot off real quick. against St.Louis it took him until his first goal to get his offensive game really going, it´s fun to watch, very promising. Strong defensivly, real good skater and seems to be a real good fit with Zadina

Yeah, suggesting that we should trade Mantha or Athanasiou because they will "cost too much" is beyond dumb. If our young players play well enough this season to command a big contract, that's great news for us, not a bad thing...
  25. 1 point
We might be able to get AA, Mantha for ~$6M signed and Bert for $3.5M+ and if they want far more I think Yzerman will just trade them. I reckon Stevie Y is asking for a DRW discount to see who is all in and who is just after the money.
