That goal pissed me off more than the others. Nemeth looked like he was in position, then Green tried to switch spots with him (?), then didn't and basically gave him a free path to the net. I was pleasantly surprised that the score was only 4-2. No superstars, no high end prospects (except Seider), and the Pens played pretty much all their starters. Could have been really ugly. Bernier was solid. Our passing was bad and out of sync, but considering our typical bottom 6 were our top line forwards in this game, I wasn't surprised. I was at the game, my son got a puck from one of the Red Wings trainers during warmups, we won free hot dogs somehow and I got to chat with other Wings fans outside this forum.

I'm assuming we'll see a much better lineup tonight... I'd like to see a glimpse into the not so distant future in one of the next three games... Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Athanasiou - Veleno - Zadina Hirose - Rasmussen - Svechnikov Erne - Pearson - Glendening Hronek - Seider DeKeyser - Bowey Cholowski - Kaski Larsson

Yeah, I like to see Seider with Nemeth, and Daley...on another team. ...or retired. Thanks for your help Trevor, now go golf with Kronner.

Just insert Athanasiou on the 2nd line and drop Hirose down to the 3rd line in Ehn's spot, and that would be a lethal top 9...

Yeah, they looked good for long stretches. The wheels fell off the bus late in the game, but I didn't expect them to win anyway. Seider was calm as usual, even with Malkin & Crosby on the ice.

Blashill said a few days ago, in reference to Cholowski, that it'd be nice to have a left shot running one of the power play units. For what that's worth.

Cap era: those three plus Zetterberg. Including pre-cap, Yzerman, Feds, Shanny, Hasek, and Cujo all did in at least one year.

So many ban-worthy things I could do with this.

and then he will be 24 and negotiating a contract for all his prime years. his salary in the third year of the current contract will be $9M. That looks like the next $100M deal to me, if he keeps going on. as long as we can keep them for $7M or less, depending on performence, I´m fine with it. Mantha is a beast and it looks like he has figured it out finally. Strong end to the season, real good WC and in preseason he looks as good as before. He is using his real good shot more often and seems to be even stronger than last year. AA is a different type but still a beast in his way. He tears apart defenses in his own way. I love both and would love to see them signing 8 year deals.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this for the better part of this season... Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Hirose - Filppula - Athanasiou Erne - Nielsen - Kuffner Abdelkader - Glendening - Helm Ehn / de la Rose DeKeyser - Green Nemeth - Hronek Daley - Bowey Ericsson Howard Bernier Terry - Veleno - Zadina Svechnikov - Rasmussen - Puempel Smith - Turgeon - MacLeod Pope - Pearson - Lukosevicius Elson / Ford Cholowski - Seider Hicketts - Kaski Lashoff / McIlrath - Lindstrom Saarijarvi Larsson Pickard It would certainly be a painful season in Detroit, but a fun season in Grand Rapids, while our top prospects continue to develop and gain chemistry in a winning environment. I would definitely watch a lot of Griffins games if they dressed a roster close to this. It would also ensure another top pick in next year's draft...

    Oh Captain, No Captain?

I don't really buy that Yzerman needing more time to get to know the players is why they're holding off. I don't think it's necessarily the wrong call to hold off tho, and I'm sure they have good reasons for going this way. We've lost two bedrock leaders in a two-year span in Zetterberg and Kronwall. And that's happening right in the middle of a painful rebuild. And Yzerman has given every indication that he expects the team to suck this season. And Larkin is an emotional guy who maybe doesn't need to be shouldering the weight of a tank team's shortcomings any more than he did last season, all when what the organization truly needs him to do in the here & now is focus on becoming a Selke-caliber heavyweight centerman in the mold of Ryan O'Reilly. Work on the two-way game (-6 last season). Cut down on the penalties (75 mins last season). Keep improving at faceoffs (54.5% last season). So I'm guessing they're protecting Larkin and the other top young roster players. Let them focus on playing hockey. Guard against a "Wings fans thought the future was now. Turns out the young core isn't ready for prime time. Now the question becomes 'Where does the organization go from here?'" media BS. Or maybe they're just gonna give Larkin the C at the end of camp. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
