Elliotte Friedman: Swedish UFA Forward Mathias Brome to Sign with Wings
13dangledangle and one other reacted to ChristopherReevesLegs for a post in a topic
Athletes have a lot of down time and a lot of folks talking about them. I'm fairly certain at some point a player like Brome has thought "hmmm I just signed with Detroit, I wonder what the fans are saying about me" and found his way to this place. And I hope he clicks on the Brome thread and sees people fat-shaming Jimmy and discussing Donald Sterlings racism and thinks "OMG what I have I gotten myself into. These people are nuts" Welcome to the family Bromey -

No that was Don Imus. And he was rightfully fired from his radio show because he said it over the airways. Sterling said something racist to a girl he was with while she was secretly recording him without his knowledge. 2 totally different scenarios. But I guess it doesnt matter in the end. As long as all the deplorables are punished, the ends justify the means. Illegally obtained recordings, hidden cameras, we cant allow people to have any civil liberties or individual rights when theres a social war to win. Free thought is forbidden if its not woke. -

This really sucks. The 57% at 1OA wasnt even the best thing about the new proposed draft. It was that DET couldn't drop below nr 2 giving us either Lafreniere or first pick at Byfeld/Rossi/Stützle/Drysdale.. We couldnt lose in that situation. -

2020 Offseason

Would love to discuss either with you. Nyquist to me is too passive. He came in relatively unknown and hot on good teams and then digressed as the team digressed. He has that passenger quality where he's only as good as the line you put him on. This is unlike a Zetterberg - whom you can stick on a line with Sheahan and Abdelkader - and he'll still generate. Though when I think of "The Red Wings mold" for a player Nyquist seems to fit it perfectly to me. Smart, responsible, poised, patient, He just wasn't godly skilled enough to be a Z or Datsyuk. Z seemed to be so technically proficient and have so much determination that he could just will the puck into the back of the net. Datsyuk was so skilled that he was just ******* with people and having fun half the time. I mean going behind the net and trying to lacrosse a puck up and over the net in the playoffs for giggles is ballsy even for the best players (forget what series that was, he didn't score on the play). Nyquist seemed to be too passive for any of that. Too Zadina. I see this same passive passenger like quality in Zadina. Maybe less so than Nyquist, but there nonetheless. Zadina is really good at utilizing his stick in all situations. I praise him for that constantly. His potential to be a very complete Hossa type winger is definitely there if he wants to be that. My worry with him is he's not the line driver Zberg or Datsyuk was. Tatar looked to be the line driver for MTL this year, but he still only managed 61 pts in 66 games. That's a problem for MTL IMO. Your main line driver shouldn't be a 29 year old winger putting up decent points. Zberg at the same age was putting up 92 points in 75 games. So I definitely think Zadina will be a valuable player, like both Tatar and Nyquist were and are. I just don't think we should bank on him being a driver for this team. I think of him more as a Franzen or Holmstrom (not in style of play) the type of player who can help you loads but you still need true superstars around him. If we don't get those superstars soon I think Zadina will be doomed to have career fizzle like Nyquists did. -

Im not entirely sure Mathias Brome knows what he's getting himself into over here. Better not be bringing his swedish mafia BS of pearl, hoes and misogyny over this way -
1 pointhttps://www.nhl.com/news/pittsburgh-penguins-goalie-update-matt-murray-tristan-jarry/c-316829384 this might offer a possibility of getting a good goalie, also interesting that the pens believe the cap won´t rise and possibly can go down as well, what will put for example Toronto in an even tougher spot than they´re in already...

Yeah. It was too good to be true, I guess. It's kind of surreal that it was a thing at all. Like I said, I genuinely wouldn't be surprised to learn it was a calculated, boldfaced attempt to take a little short-term hit in the draft integrity department in the hope of shaving a few years off the Wings' rebuild. On the other hand, maybe this is just the standard "ask for more than you actually want and 'concede' to walk back your ask to what you (secretly) really wanted all along" play. I dunno. -

Probably. I feel like his persona and "takes" have become way worse and more click-baity since he joined ESPN. But it's fitting for him. All the good writers went to the Athletic and he got stuck with the organization that most of the hockey community literally laughs at. Marek vs. Wyshynski was a good podcast before Spittin' Chiclets came in and absolutely slayed the hockey podcast market. But looking back it was mostly: *Mildly interesting take from Jeff Marek* followed by: "hehe I'm so excited for the new Star Wars/Marvel movie! hehe my dog sneakers is a little flufferino" *more effeminate giggling from Greg* Then Marek literally abandoned goofy Greg and that show to join Elliotte Friedman on the 31 Thoughts podcast (smart move Jeff). So Greggy scrambled and got Dave Lozo to start a new show with him called Puck Soup. But it sucked and I stopped tuning in shortly after. I dunno how it is now, I think Lozo left the show too. He's an overrated blogger in the tail end of his career. He got into sports blogging early with Yahoo which enabled him to punch far above his own weight class. Now guys with actual insider knowledge and humor above surface level pop culture references have caught up and he's fukt. I imagine he'll get more edgy and click-baity as time goes on. -

Do you think this guy is resorting to "hot-takes" for a few clicks? He seems pretty vanilla/pathetic otherwise. -

2016/17 Wings - Finished 25th - drafted 9th (-3 spots) 2016/17 Devils - Finished 27th - drafted 1st (+3 spots) 2017/18 Wings - Finished 27th - drafted 6th (-1 spot) 2017/18 Devils - Finished 15th - drafted 17th (+/- 0) 2018/19 Wings - Finished 28th - drafted 6th (-2 spots) 2018/19 Devils - Finished 29th - drafted 1st (+2 spots) Over the last 3 drafts the Wings are -6 in first round draft position, and the Devils are +5 with two first overalls. But yes Greg, we are the new Edmonton, not the Devils with their multiple 1st overalls on a failing roster and trading of Taylor Hall. Totally. -
0 pointsAs much as I wanted it (and Bettman/Daly can push it thru) - I always felt it was unlikely to happen since the 'bosses' aka the BoG would pi$$ & moan relentlessly.

so it seems the NHL is re-thinking the process of the lottery because some executives say Detroit and Ottawa got too much privilege. Honestly, unless you wait until the playoffs are established, there is no other way of doing it. Columbus is 2 points out of a playoff spot, are you going to award them a lottery pick, possibly #1, then they could make the playoffs and go deep? If you don't finish the season and get the total amount of points, how fair is it to still have Detroit (and others) still drop up to 3 spots? How fair is it that New Jersey just might win a 3rd top pick in the last 4 years? How fair is it that Chicago may get it after just being 4 years out from winning their 3rd Cup in 6 years? Pittsburgh is only 5 points ahead of Columbus, so if they happened to falter and miss, and they get the 1st overall (their traded pick is protected) how fair is that? They are 2 years out of winning back to back Cups. The whole lottery is flawed there is no way an 80-90 point team (which Columbus may have after the season) should be getting a 1st overall pick while teams in the bottom 5 get screwed. https://twitter.com/TSN1200/status/1258133902763442179?s=20
