If this was the USA I'd say he's a CIA plant to help recreate fascism. But I think Justin is just that based. I loved how he dealt with the Ottawa truckers. Protest government action? Freeze their bank accounts. Get on board with Canada or lose everything. This is the type of supremo nationalistic leader I pray America gets and/or trump becomes.

If we were guaranteed a spot in the playoffs and Tanev was a depth signing then I'd be all over it, but it's not 2010 anymore Yes and yes. We're certainly better - however it's not because of our young players Holland/Yzerman drafted - it's the 'Misfit Toys' that had been signed, or traded for these past few summers. Totally agree. He's the modern Drew Miller. While I would much love to keep him - I also won't care if he leaves. When you find bottom 6ers that fit the team well it's nice to keep them, as long as you don't overpay them. Fischer has fit in well.

Discussing the trade deadline today, Max Bultman of The Athletic speculated that Alex Wenneberg, Nic Dowd, and Pavel Buchnevich might be players of interest to Detroit. Lalonde has mentioned publicly that he'd like Yzerman to add a "utility foward" at the deadline and I think all three fit the bill to varying degrees. Buchnevich is the best player, Dowd would be the cheapest, and Wenneberg is somewhere in between. Edit: The more I think about it the more I like the idea of Wennberg. He and Sprong had chemistry in Seattle a year ago and he won't break the bank. That also allows us to get Veleno on the wing. I'd do something like Veleno-Larkin-Raymond Kane-Compher-Dcat Perron-Wennberg-Sprong Ras-Copp-Fischer

I watched the video finally and this idea where you HAVE to have a superstar seems meh to me. Remind me the number of cups between McJesus and Matthews? Ovie has like 1, Crosby has 3 but they also drafted beyond stupid in the early 2000s which led to him having a hella supporting staff. I think the ability to roll 4 lines that can defend and score is better than a loaded 1st line of "stars" and of course you need a solid G. Are our forward lines all that great probably not but are they all pulling the sled the same way I think so. I think this team has that play for each other mentality which as we have seen minus the Oil/Nucks games enables the non panic attitude when down. Our D ...not going there...LOL Do we have that solid dependable non-superstar G ...maybe/maybe not. Reimer needs to come in and cover a game or 2 up to the TDL and bit beyond looking at the next 9 games. Where else do you give LION a rest or do you? Avs, Blues back to back with Hawks so Reimer plays Caps, Islanders, Cats, Avs Coyotes back to back with Vegas so Reimer plays Overwork last year as we know was Husso's downfall. I beginning to think Husso might be toast for the season which to be honest might not be that bad.

I just have this odd feeling Yzerman is at the point to where he'll be mortgaging some futures for upgrades now. @Dabura said it, we'd hate to be screwed in G next season if Lyon turns out to just have "one of those seasons." It happened with Ned, its happened with Husso to an extent, and now he's is just injury prone. Stealing Markstrom out from under other teams (especially Jersey, looking to pass us) would not only help this year, but he's got 2 more seasons on his contract. He's at $6M, but Calgary is expected to have over $22M next season in cap space. Maybe Yzerman can get them to retain some salary somehow. Markstrom has got to be the best G available. Plus having 2 years left, he can ride with Lyon next season and then in 2 years see where Cossa stands. D needs an upgrade, not just now either, moving forward. Whether that be Chychrun, Hanifin (who has said he'd love to sign long-term in Tampa, so he'd probably be a pure rental, which i think Yzerman would avoid) or if we could get Andersson. It's all unknown, but I'm definitely on the "buy" bandwagon!
