Richdg 267 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 Wasn't that the opinion of some on this forum? Yet now he is doing better in GR than Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, etc... ever did. 15 points in 18 games this season. Playing a 2 way game and is using his size. TBH Callahan and Tangradi need to take him out for dinner and soon! Many of their goals have come off of his shots to be deflected into the net or the rebounds picked up and put in. Could it be that being a 19 year old kid and missing 6 weeks do to a broken leg were the issue all along? Hmmmm...........

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 I hope Mantha is the prospect coming up for the games on Sunday and Tuesday. I don't want hear the nonsense from Blashill either that there's no spot for him in the top nine to play. You have Darren Helm and Brad Richards with their five goals combined both playing there. Anything would be better than wasting Pav's final few years with Helm on his wing. I would definitely like them to at least give Mantha a look sometime this season. 1 Internet.Unknown reacted to this

Because nothing ever changes, meaning if something isn't true now then it never was true. Mantha had to adjust to playing hard for 30-45 second shifts instead of picking his spots on 2 minute shifts. It took him awhile, apparently he learned his lesson.
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 He was 20 last year, and no, 6 weeks injured does not excuse 6 months of mediocre performance. Laziness is an over-used criticism, but it was hardly the prevailing opinion anyway. His season last year was disappointing, whether due to laziness or something else. Furthermore, 5 goals in 18 games and a bit under a point/game is hardly anything to get excited about (nor is at as good as Nyquist was). He's been good lately with 3g, 8p in his last 4 games, but he also had just 2g, 7p in his first 14. He needs to keep up his play for considerably longer before we re-annoint him our future superstar. Assuming he stays healthy and plays 70-ish games, anything less than around 30g should be considered just as disappointing as his first year. And I wouldn't bother getting excited unless he starts putting up Pulkkinen-type numbers. 1 BottleOfSmoke reacted to this
BottleOfSmoke 5,965 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 rant/ I don't understand the concept of rubbing people's opinions in their face when a situation changes on a message board where we are all a fan of the same thing. No one who thought Mantha wasn't cutting it *didn't* want him to turn it around. People weren't rooting for him to fail, they were pointing out that he was most certainly not living up to his hype--whatever the reason. I'm glad Mantha is doing well. I want him to become an absolute superstar. I'm glad he is starting to rock it. That doesn't change the fact that he previously wasn't, nor does it make the people who pointed this out idiots. I hope he has turned a corner, and we never have to wonder what the hell his problem is ever again. /rant 9 kickazz, amato, PavelValerievichDatsyuk and 6 others reacted to this

I mean, wasn't he a healthy scratch just a little while ago? 3 goals in 4 games is great to hear, but that means he had 2 goals in his first 14 games. Lets wait a little bit to see if he's really turned a corner. I watched watched Mantha a bit in the Q and at the Memorial Cup - consistent effort was a problem for him. He has the tools It would be great if filled in that hole in his game and found his way in GR. Edit: to clarify in response to some later comments below, I'm a big fan of Mantha's and think he will be a big part of our future. I just think, from what I've seen, that he'll be a little longer to develop a consistent, impact game. I was more trying to temper the notion that he's suddenly the player he was hyped to be after 4 solid games. WingsallTheway 383 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Mantha is on a hot streak right now after a supremely slow start to the season, lets settle down here. Hes also known as a streaky player so we can all get back on the Mantha is lazy and he sucks train in a week or so Franzen scored as many goals in 1 game Edited December 18, 2015 by WingsallTheway

LeftWinger 4,972 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 the injury most certainly played a role in his production. But even after that he averaged .53 ppg in his first full season in GR. Now he is averaging .8 ppg thus far in his second season. Is it superstar numbers? No. But doesn't mean he isn't going to have a great career in the NHL. Lets compare him to one of our leading scorers on the team the last two seasons, Tatar. What was Tatar's PPG in his first full AHL season? .55. What was his PPG in his second full season? .8. Does this mean Mantha will turn out just as good as Tatar? No, nothing is guaranteed, but its not like he's chopped liver down there. He will be fine. I am willing to bet he gets time up here a couple of games this season, and then at lest 20 games next season. As long as he continues the direction he is going now, with no setbacks. DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 What gets me is the statement of facts about what he WILL do. No maybes, or I thinks, or ifs. He WILL score 30 goals, he WILL be great. Nobody knows. He could be that good. He could be a 20 goal 40 point winger you have to play on the third line and find the right matchup for every shift. Moat likely I think he'll score around 25 goals, play mediocre in his own end, and be constantly criticized for not using his size and lack of effort. In other words, French Franzen. Frenchzen, if you will. 2 kipwinger and LeftWinger reacted to this

PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted December 18, 2015 If you're big, and not a goon, people turn on you. Even if he doesn't hit, fight, scrap, etc. size is still an extra asset. It's hard to move big guys. They have extra reach, etc. People seem to miss this and just say "he's big and doesn't use his size." Not every big player should have to have an edge. If they're a goal scorer I don't see why it matters as long as they score (which Franzen did). 2 joesuffP and krsmith17 reacted to this
