After "very bad summer", Gordie Howe showing personality again

20 September 2014 - 03:20 PM

After a summer where it looked like the end was painfully near, Gordie Howe has rebounded in health and humor.
Son Mark Howe spent part of Saturday afternoon searching for someone to fix his iPad, specifically, to get FaceTime up and running, because this is the only way he can communicate with his dad when the two are apart. Mark is in Traverse City in his role as scout for the Detroit Red Wings, while Gordie is in Lubbock, Texas, being taken care of by his daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Bob. Gordie, 86, suffers from dementia, and was in such poor shape that in late August, he had outpatient surgery to help with spinal stenosis (an abnormal narrowing of the spinal canal), which had rendered him in debilitating pain.

Read the rest of the story for more. It's heartbreaking to hear how bad things were for Gordie. Especially when his family didn't think he would be around for much longer.

Ducks to wear "new" home and new road jerseys

27 June 2014 - 04:41 PM

New year, new look! Pre-order the new #NHLDucks home and road jersey today! bit.ly/JerseyPreorder

I say "new" home, because it's really just last year's 3rd getting a promotion. Imo, I like the fact that they are using the "Duck Foot" D as their primary crest, instead of the Ducks wordscript. But that's about all I like...

Looking for high-res Wings pictures...

21 February 2014 - 12:45 AM

I rotate about 30 or so Red Wings pictures on my desktop background at work.  I have a couple of pictures from the '09 Winter Classic, 20 or so from this year's WC, and a few pictures from various games and so.

But I'm always on the lookout for more pictures.  I'm pretty sure I've tapped both Google and Bing's image searches dry.  Anybody have any sources for high resolution pictures?

Looking (obviously) for pictures that are wallpaper sized or so...

Thanks for any help!
