ive been quite critical of osgoods sub-par play this year, but this is just getting old. youre beating a dead horse. osgood was decent yesterday, and without that soft first goal it would have been a completely different game.

I know its not a fair comparison because the 07-08 team won the cup, but just to show how bad Osgood has been this season in 07-08 Osgood was 27-9-4, he had 9 losses and 4 otl in 43 games this season Osgood is 7-9-4, so 9 losses and 4 otl in 23 games He has as many losses/otl as he did 2 seasons ago in 20 less games. His GAA also jumped almost a goal a game (2.09 to 3.02) and Save percentage dropped from .914 to .888 I think its hard to call this season a fluke, his gaa is almost identical this season to last season (3.09 and 3.02) and is Save Percentage is almost identical as well (.888 and .887). We dont have the offense to bail him out this year that we had last year, and his record is reflecting that. I think age has caught up to him, he had a great career as a Red Wing goalie and I respect everything he has done. But its gotten to a point that I cringe everytime he is in net and you can almost put 3 goals on the board for the other team to start.

That's right. Instead of argue the post, go after the poster. That brings an intellectual, civil discussion to the table.

    Osgood to start Sunday

It's always been funny how your overly-optimistic view of the Wings doesn't include Osgood. Nothing approaches game conditions. Ozzy was rusty. He started awful, but got better, and made a few big saves in the third. Osgood played the shot on the 4 on 2, which is what he's supposed to do. Why no comments about Bert's bad decision, Kronwall's awful job playing the pass, and Ericsson trying to cover two Flyers at once and ended up covering neither? Or Lebda deciding to help out Stuart by having them both cover the same man, leaving the entire left side of the ice open? The Wings played below par, including Osgood. But I was surprised at how good he looked in the third. That was about the best to be hoped for after the awful start.

1-7-2 That is Wings record in Osgoods last 10 starts. If he was even average in that stretch we could possibly be fighting for the division right now and would be in a lot better shape for 4th at least. 4 pts in 10 games is horrible from your backup. Are we seeing Ozzie's last games in a Red Wings jersey? Coaches obviously have no confidence in him, given the start streak Howard has gotten. Do we go into next season with him as our backup?

    Draper.....

It seems that Draper has always been heralded as a great 'role' player on the team. Never scored a lot of goals, but chipped one or two in once in a while, and was a faceoff specialist,as well as an excellent penalty killer. Is it just me,or: He now rarely kills penalties... He always gets booted from the faceoff circle... When did he last score a relevant goal? His only contribution is freezing the puck against the boards like its 1995? I'm all for loyalty, and recognize his past achievements ,and I know there's another year on the old (gratuitous)contract, but what exactly does he bring to the table?

Alexei Yashin was a captain once. Are you sure he has no say in it? I thought for some reason that he did.

    Chicago takes Central

The reason there there wasn't a thread about this before you came along YooperWingMan is because nobody cares... We weren't expecting to win the division come November with all the injuries and the wings probably ran out of space in the rafters to put another banner anyways. Congrats to Chicago I guess? In my eyes though, it really is cup or bust.

Jamie Langenbrunner: This is the only person I can see beating out Lidstrom. Langenbrunner was the captain of team USA and is the captain for a good Devil's team and has been very well this season for the Devils. Niklas Lidstrom: Not much to say for this man. Captain of the Red Wings and still putting up great numbers and demonstrates leadership in everything he does. Ryan Miller: As much as I love Miller time, I don't think this award should go to a goalie, mainly due to the fact that don't have a lot of leadership abilities on the ice during game play because of the rules. OV: Ummmm, no. Great player, but no. Mike Richards: Great leaders don't get drawn into a verbal shouting match with the media for the duration of a season because they hurt his feelings. Great player, but not a better leader than JL or NL.

Un-*******-believable! I can't wait for them to release the rationale of the pardon. I just can't fathom what it could possibly be. This is some ridiculous bulls***!

Ill start by saying I like Ozzy and respect what hes done, however facts are facts and you can tell how deflated the boys get every time he lets an early weak goal. Sorry Oz, but this is Howards team now.

    Ozzie hides when backing up

Other than the first goal Ozzie played well. Not great but then again he hasn't really played in forever. But he was better than usual. But he needs to be sat. He's just too out of the loop now to use him. Babcock really dropped the ball on the goalie situation. Hopefully over the summer Ozzie can get his stuff together and get a fresh start next year.

I'd rather have the 19 straight playoffs appearances, but Congrats to Hossa (I hate Chicago so this is the best I can do)

In all of Howard's starts: (for the sake of clarity I'm just going to use the "record" used before instead of listing every start and how he did. 18-11-12-12-2-1-1-2 So he was scored on within the first 10 minutes 18/58 times. To compare: Osgood's "f*** I got scored on early!" percentage: 42% Howard's FIGSOE percentage: 31% Not factoring in first shots (or shots within 5 minutes of the game) allowed for either goaltender. Also Osgood's record in his last 10 starts was 2-6-2 before the Philly game.

I actually have an osgood jersey and am a fan of his, but if he is not performing well then i am not going to just make excuses and defend him just because i like the guy. It actually does kind of upset me, because if Howard and osgoods stats were switched this year you would want to cut howard and never give him another start. But just because osgood used to be an amazing goalie people overly defend him with no justification.

Damn, I was hoping for the 5th seed. Guess we'll have to settle for the 6th seed instead.

I'd love to see Osgood get torched in this game... so we can finally stop seeing posts from the few remaining fools who think he should be starting in the playoffs.

This is just to keep Howard from getting injured - nothing more nothing less. Why expose you starting goalie when you don't need to?

    NHL.com's All Decade team

I don't think it matters since Luongo doesn't play for the Wings. Osgood has a cup in this decade and Luongo doesn't have a single Western Conference appearance to his name. Hasek you have an argument for, but not Luongo.
