I think this is bulls***, why would they "approve" the contract then fine the team afterwards! Talk about a mixed message.

he hasn't been here that long but it's hard to imagine the red wings being coached by anybody other than mike babcock, and i wouldn't pick anybody else over him.

I don't understand how a team can be fined draft picks for something when there was no precedence. So is this gonna be the standard punishment for someone trying to circumvent the cap? I can see charging them a bunch of money to recoup legal expenses etc. But draft picks too? I find it kinda ridiculous.

IMO that's way to harsh. The contract was worse in terms of circumvention than some others but it's clear that other teams did the same thing but weren't quite as blatant. And the other teams got no penalties and got to keep their contracts. I'm not a Devils fan but they got screwed.

Yeah, I'm confused by this too. The deal the NHL rejected isn't that much different from the one that they agreed to. Now they're getting fined and losing draft picks? At least it wasn't $3 mil in cap space.

Hes a great coach and does the subtle and not so subtle things to inspire, look at what he said in the paragraph about Jimmy "if he can put 18 good seasons together in a row, then you're like (Chris Osgood) ... the real ones." hes inspiring and challenging Jimmy to play at his top level, while also throwing something in to show his respect and belief in Ozzy. The other thing that stood out to me was his comment about Modano "He's going to like getting the puck on his tape from good players" I'm pumped for the season

Yeah, I know. I once thought about doing a 29 forums in 29 days thing, where I'd try to get banned from all 29 forums around the NHL. Then I found out about this rule on LGW about not trolling on other teams' forums, so I never did it. I wonder why we have a rule on LGW, which controls what members do on other forums? I mean is it really the mods business what I do on the rest of the internet?

Stupid question, but since these draft picks aren't being surrendered to another team but to the NHL, doesn't this just mean that two kids are essentially getting screwed outta of their dream by not getting drafted? How does keeping young future stars out of the NHL benefit anyone?

Does this really pass as valid criticism? A variance in scoring between one game and the next? I hate to be that guy that says "you don't know hockey," but you have to watch that or just about any sport for about five minutes to understand that scores will vary, often wildly, between games. However these "inconsistent" Red Wings have found a kindred spirit in a team I believe you hold dear. Let me direct you to the case of Montreal v. Pittsburgh, wherein the Pens scored six goals in the first game but then required the next four games combined to reach that total. Perhaps their age is catching up with them -- 23 is the new 40.

No not quite. I visit that forum every now and it pales in comparison to this one. I wanted to see their reaction to the whole Kovalchuk situation and there was hardly anything. LetsGoPens.com is pretty much all about the Pens. Its Pens talk and ONLY Pens talk. In addition to a lot of Wings news, there's tons of hockey news in general here. During the trade deadline and the start of the free agency period, I just come here for news. I know someone will have seen it on TV, a website or heard it on the radio and post on here.
