12/11 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Devils 1

Osgoods had 1 rough start this year out of his 6 this year and even in that game he had no help at all from his team and was hung completely out to dry on 2-3 of the goals against. He's been nothihng but strong in the rest of his starts this year. The stats now reflect that with a .907 save % and a 2.48 GAA putting him ahead of Howard even on that stat. Bottom line, as many have said again and again, he's anything but "done." And wait for it: I think his play will improve even more once he gets that 400th. It's a huge mental monkey on his back that will be good to move past.

Probably wishful thinking, but can all the Ozzie haters STFU now ? Great game by Ozzie, he obviously still "has it" and can be relied upon. Great game.

I swear, we could sweep the Cup finals, with scores of 50-0 each game and you'll still ***** about the color of Babs's tie or something. No, you shouldn't complain. So don't. It gets old.

Great game by Osgood. Really pissed that powerplay goal got through but all in all was a helping hand in Detroit's win tonight. Howard needs to do better on the faceoff charts. It looks like he doesn't even care out there.

The best thing about Osgood getting close to 400 is that I think he'll be a better goalie once it's in the past. Especially with how long it's taken, he's admitted that it's become a bit of a mental burden that he's ready to move on from. Let's hope for a strong 3rd and then maybe Wednesday or next Sunday Osgood can get a home game and a win for 400. I really hope Babs gives him the chance to get it at home. He deserves that with an honor as noteworthy as joining the 400 club.

Bingo. Newfy doesn't know what he is talking about. Big surprise.

Draper already more of an impact in the first 20 minutes than Hudler has been the last 2 games.

2001 Sv% .903 with Detroit 2002 Sv& .910 with Isles then the next year his numbers went down with the Isles when he was traded to St. Louis. Though then on St. Louis it went back up to .910%. As for getting his number retired, I don't see it happening. It's the same problem with the HHOF (though he has a better chance there). Ozzy has been very good for a long time, but he's never really been elite. I don't see his number making it to the rafters.

Doesn't matter. You don't publicly throw your own potential teammates and colleagues under the bus.

You said it all with your first sentence. Not one person would argue yzerman sawchuck or gordie, and no one will when #5 goes up. No disrespect to osgood and what he's done here, but the rafters are such a extreme honor that even the likes of oz don't make the cut.

Hall of Fame for Osgood? I say yes, especially if he breaks the 400 win plateau. You don't win 3 Cups and 400 games by just being a "system" goalie, he earned everything he has achieved. Retire his number? That's debatable, and because it is debatable it should not happen. Lidstrom's #5 will definitely be retired, and that will be the last one for a very long time, unless the Ilitches decide to finally raise #6 like they should have done a long time ago.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

If the Leafs start winning I'm totally screwed. The "I'm a Leafs fan" excuse is the only reason my psychiatrist hasn't sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous.

The rafters in the Joe are reserved for all time greats. Howe the greatest most well rounded player all time Lindsey and Abel were both part of one of the greatest lines all time that was part of a dynasty and arguably best team of all time in 52 Sawchuk is a top 5 goalie all time, maybe top 3 Yzerman is one of, if not the best leader in the history of the game and if he had not reinvented his game to win, he wouldd be much higher on the all time list. Lidstrom will go up. I think its dumb to say he's better then Orr but he is at least op 5 all time. Does Ozzie belong in the same breath as any of these players? No he wasn't even close. He won 2 cups as a starter and other then that was not anything very special, just a solid goalie on a great team. You dont get your number retired fr that

    Retire Osgood's #30?

My thinking is that Osgood won't be in the rafters simply because the Red Wings have such high qualifications. If Osgood's number was put up in the rafters it would then, inevitably, bring out the question of why he was chosen over other players - "if he got there, then why not Fedorov, why not Shanny?" If you compare his impact to that of those two players, it would be unfair that the honour not be theirs as well. The Red Wings have only chosen iconic players that have contributed to the culture of the franchise.

#5 will be there.. Shanahan, Fedorov were great players but you've gotta be someone really really special to hang in the rafters in JLA...this isn't the pepsi center in denver, colorado.

The Rafters are Sacred Red Wing Jersey grounds. More sacred than Ozzie, Shanny, and Feds. We're talking maybe once in a generation does a new jersey go up and retire. When was the last one before Stevie Y?
