    Shades of Fedorov?

now there's a debate! I believe with 100%, that if Fedorov was a defenseman (FULLTIME) and still had all the two way dominating talent that he possessed while here, HE would be the one with all the Norris' and he would be considered better than Lidstrom. He wold also be rivaling Orr, if not have passed him up in Norris Trophy's. edit: Fedorov has 136 less Red Wing points than Lidstrom, but has played in 554 LESS Red Wing games than Lidstrom. Fedorov career average as a Red Wing is 1.05 PPG, Lidstom's is .74 PPG. I know this is comparing a forward to a defensman, but you have to believe that Fedorov would still score more points than Lids considering his offensive dominance. Being a top defender, he would also be on the ice more than he was as a forward, so you would have to factor that in too... I aint knocking Lidstrom at all, don't get me wrong.

    Weber and the Wings

Per the new CBA, if you sign a RFA player to a deal worth 6.4ish million+ it's actually four 1st round picks, a pint of virgin blood, and a vial of children's tears

Reading through a thread at HF Boards, I got to thinking - do Leaf fans, as fans of a proud Original 6 Franchise, deserve better than what they've been getting? Horrible management, mediocre at best teams, horrible trades/signings and MLSE's only motivation being for profit hasn't stopped the fans from coming to games or buying merchandise. Of course, fans are enjoying watching their failures, many Wings fans among them. I don't like the Leafs as much as the next guy, but I can't help but feel the smallest portion of pity for what their fans endure compared to Detroit fans. I sure don't feel bad for the team, but to the Leaf fans who are starving for a winner (not the cocky, entitled fans), I do to a certain extent.

    Observations from March 26th, 1997

I decided to pull out the dvd of the game, watching it again. Here are some of my observations of a great hockey game... Pushor vs. Severyn - Pushor has no idea what he's doing. Severyn starts it but Jamie doesn't get much but thrown to the ice. Sakic butt ends and holds Yzerman blatently then trips him...old time hockey? Federov is on defence. He goes end to end like his first name's Bobby. Oh, and he stands out kinda like Datsyuk does now, its wild to see these guys in their primes again. Valerie Kamensky scores the first goal. Beautiful, top shelf one-timer off the draw. A big scrum a few minutes later leads to a tussle between Maltby and Corbet. Maltby was theoretically 'fighting'...weird. The highlight: Murphy and Kieth Jones wrestling a bit. FSN vs Versus! Apparently Colorado had won the last four And seven of nine. The guy doing the game with Mickey on PASS sports is annoying. Almost all of our players could hit and fight. Konstantinov, Pushor, Shanahan, Ward, Knuble, LaPointe, McCarty, Maltby... Holmstrom #15 Knuble's 1st NHL game. Then IT happens... I'm still blown away that Forsberg/Larionov sets it off. The play by play guy is talking like its no big deal throughout. Mickey hasn't said anything halfway through, wth. McCarty knees Lemieux in the head when he's on the boards. Vernon/Roy is vicious. I love the off their feet hit between Shanahan and Roy. Kamensky and Lidstrom had each other, never knew that. Marc Crawford looks like he's 27. Vernon's helmet is classic. Deadmarsh/Konstantinov. A whole :30 seconds later. Mickey: "Sticks, gloves, arms, elbows up..." And that was just the first period!!!

    Shades of Fedorov?

You're a big hypocrite if you're calling me biased on this topic. I'm actually trying to be objective. If you think he carried the team, than you're giving him too much credit. The 2003 Ducks with Giguere are an example of a player carrying that team. Fedorov didn't carry the 2002 Wings. No one player carried that team. He wasn't even our best player in the playoffs, which is why he didn't win the Smythe.

    Shades of Fedorov?

Well yeah, definitely Feds could possibly be one of the greatest defenseman all time had he played it more. With Nick having to play a more shutdown role on defense I am not sure the points thing holds a whole lot of water yet there is a lot of truth to what you are saying in this above post. But maybe this is the particular thread that should be brought up.... Who has/had the most RAW talent to ever wear the winged wheel. To me, it truly is between Nick and Sergei in the history but I wasn't around during 30's-late 80's so would be a tad tough for me to really say it's just those 2. Would be tough to find 2 more all-around talented players than them though.

Did You Get Your Curly Fries?

I think this one might be my favorite Wings hat trick in the post lockout era. All nice moves/plays involving Zetterberg. And look at him flash that smile at the very end. You could tell he had a lot of fun that night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JmP0ErgrV0

    Shades of Fedorov?

I think Franzen is great, but he's no Fedorov. Also, I think the whole "both don't give all their effort all the time" argument is bogus. They both have the ability to pot a goal every game, but that just isn't going to happen. Even Gretzky in the high-scoring 1980's only did it twice (which is amazing in my mind that he could even do it once!). I think lack of game-by-game production looks like laziness, but really it's not. Just like any of us with our jobs, some days you are rocking and can do no wrong, and others you just can't get out of your own way. It doesn't means you're working less hard... it's just the ebb and flow of life.

Crosby is out, and Forsberg is semi-retired, that's why you haven't seen any dives.

If you're Nabokov you gotta be thinking... What should I do? Should I admit the KHL was a mistake? Should I not listen to my family? They're my family. Should I have said the Islanders are a first class organization? What should I do? What should I do? Maybe I should just retire. Should I have told the Islanders to suck my wang? Should I just say, "I am not a role model."? Should I score another power play goal? Should I go back to being "John"? Should I admit I wasn't prepared for Team Canada? Should I be who you want me to be? What should I do?

I'd love Weber on this team, doubt its possible, but you never know. He owes us anyway, for what he did to Lilja.

Eaves NEEDS to stay on the PP

That's why they need to lock him up long term before he ever gets to FA... as I've said a million times before, he is the type of player you win cups with and with Draper, Modano, maybe Lidstrom, etc retiring, they have the cap space... I'd have ZERO problem with them going as high as 2.5 a year for upwards of 5 years... that's how confident I am in him and that he has found where he belongs(much like Cleary) and can fill MULTIPLE roles... they let him get away and it will be ONE of the biggest mistakes by an otherwise stellar Wings front office in the last 15 years...
