Per Darren Dreger's Twitter: "In an hour or so, the Detroit Red Wings will announce veteran asst coach Brad McCrimmon won't be back for a 4th year on the Wings bench."

He didn't do his job and needed to be replaced. simple as that. His sole responsibilities were PK and D - our PK and GA have taken drastic downturns during his tenure. Our prospects development (Ericsson, Meech, Kindl) all hit walls when they got to him and he hardly helped move them forward in their games and let them become stagnant. To blame 100% if our playoff exit on him is indeed shortsighted and naive, but to write off the vitriol towards him as strictly being treated as a scapegoat, is way over-simplifying the facts. We are a better team with him out of the equation. EDIT - I was a big proponent of bringing back the minuses, but whoever gave you a minus for an opinion is kind of ridiculous, I am going to give you a plus for an opinion I disagree with, just to even it out...

    Re-alignment

Yeah... so how do we get rid of Bettman and get you appointed?

TSN sez: "Sources say McCrimmon and head coach Mike Babcock mutually agreed it was the right time to make the change." a.k.a. "you're fired". I don't think its the Wings style to embarrass anyone and say it publicly.

Just out of curiosity because I really have no idea about these things, why does everyone think that Chelios would be a great replacement? He doesn't have any coaching experience, does he? Is there a reason I'm missing as to why he would automatically be an upgrade from McCrimmon? Coaching just seems like one of those things that requires a lot of experience, and I don't mean playing experience, I mean actual coaching experience. Great players don't always make great coaches, right out of the gate. Anyway, just wondering if there's something to it.

Every team needs a scapegoat. We could definitely use a guy with better defensive schemes, but he isn't the reason our guys sucked.

has been with the org for a long time now... Love the guy. Probably won't work but yet another suggestion.

Beat me to it! We might need coherent sober coaches on the bench but, I do like his insight and think he would even be an upgrade.

There are no words to express my joy over this. At least not in a PG fashion. So I'll just give you an image.

Tell that to Team USA Ryan Miller.

Ah yes, the "I don't like fighting so I'll use my broad brush to paint all fighters as useless non-skating apes who are complete detriments to their teams" argument. Carry on... esteef

Well Drew Miller put up almost as many points in 66 as Konopka has in 195, so I would say that right there would put him as more valuable, he kills PKs, he goes to the dirty areas, and best yet, he doesn't average over 3.5 (per ten mins of ice time) minutes in the penalty box per game. Konopka isn't particularly defensively sound (not compared to your average Detroit center), at least not from what I have seen from his stats and the games Ive seen him in. If you think a guy who spends over 1/3 of his ice time per game in the box is a good addition to a team thats your right, I personally think its a poor idea. As I keep saying if we can get a player that can add grit and actual scoring talent to our team I would be in favor, but no warm bodies who are only on a team because they can fight. The best option for any grit would come on the blue line as a 6th/7th defenseman, with the high number of offensively sound D men Detroit has adding some girt on the back end wouldn't hurt.

    Winter Classic jersey

As a jersey collector, I have really got myself an education of whats fake and whats not. I have bought quite a few jersies from these dealers that sell these so called 'authentic' jersies at much lower prices. I know that they are not authentic, and you really get what you pay for! If I am really having my heart set on a true authentic jersey, I get it from shopnhl.com. I know there are other distributors of authentic jersies that are reputable. But the fitment, quality, return policy can't compare to nhl.com. But you will pay for it. I bought my WC jersey, full on customized with Lidstrom on the back. I paid top dollar for it. But I can tell you, it is by far the best fitting, feeling, sharpest jersey I have ever worn!
