Just Say 'No' to Mikael Samuelsson
Mors and one other reacted to Nevermind for a post in a topic
Apparently we're interested in bringing him back (according to Bob Duff as referenced in one of the other threads...I haven't seen it for myself)? Please Kenny, don't bring the logo hunter back. I know we won a Cup and got to a Finals Game 7 with him, but he's definitely not what we need right now. Too much of a perimeter player that constantly takes low percentage shots. He could be clutch at times, but was usually just really frustrating to watch. For whatever reason, Babcock loved him though. I'd rather acquire nobody at all than get Sammy back. If you guys feel the same way, maybe there's a slight chance the Wings' office will read this. Haha...I doubt it. -

T.Low and one other reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
Just an observation, last night's game was a perfect indicator that the Red Wings NEED a top line scorer that shows up every night to play. I certain hope Holland addresses this problem by the deadline because these are the teams we are going to be facing in the playoffs....Vancouver, San Jose, St. Louis...even Chicago still gives us fits. Please Kenny....PLEASE! WE NEED A REAL CLUTCH SCORING WINGER! -

I think Franzen has been suckin. If he had gone down like a man last night he probably would have been able to block the Sedin shot that tied the game with 15 seconds remaining. We should have never been in overtime. He also is almost a guaranteed loss of possession whenever he touches the puck of late. Sit him down for a game or two and let some motivated youngsters show him what proper effort is. -

2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET
Electrophile and one other gave a reaction for a post in a topic
I think many people here forget at times that the Red Wings organization is a business. The success of that business is largely contingent upon the team being successful every season. Does this mean winning the Cup every season? Of course not, as experience has shown. But it's very important that the team always be a contender. Mortgaging the future for one shot at the Cup is very bad business. It makes far more sense for the organization to, say, make it to the second or third round five years in a row than it does for the team to win the Cup and then sink into mediocrity for lack of a farm. -

Alright, time to call Nyquist up
Wings_Rule_1010 and one other reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
Since 2006: Cleary: 116 goals, 133 assists, 397 games played, 2.8 million salary. Jordan Staal: 114 goals, 111 assists, 409 games played, 4 million dollars salary. My point? Quite bitching. -

Bertuzzi Contract Extension
Uncle Danny and one other reacted to T.Low for a post in a topic
I like this signing. I think the raise is due to the fact that he has worked out better than anyone first thought. He would get more now on the open market because of showcasing himself in Detroit for the last two years. While Nyquist and Tatar need some ice time, they are 5'10 185. Bertuzzi is 6'3", 220, has awesome hands, is an excellent passer, has leanred to play D and Babcock says he is now a great shut down guy, and he has ragdolled Dion Phanueff, Shane Patatos OBrien, and many others. When Maxim Lapierre is runnin around taking indecent liberties with Red WIngs players, is Nyquist going to skate right up to Vancouver's bench and tell him to cool his f***in jets? No, but Bert has that sort of respect from every team in the league, and nobody wants to tangle with him. They know that f*****'s dangerously strong. He's got a great edge to his game. Pavs, Franzen, and Bert is an awesome line. How many guys can pass and make plays like him, win shootouts like him, and protect teammates like him? He may be half the beast he used to be, but he is still a very effective player, and still a HUGE presence that teams need to decide what to do with. -

Stuart was in LA before he was a wing... If he plans to leave anyway maybe a deal could be worked that includes him for Brown? As much as I want to keep Stuart for the rest of this season/playoffs at least we'd be getting something for him. -

...a lot of folks are gonna flame you for this post, especially since it's you first post, BUT I give you a +1 because yesterday was the type of game that we needed Franzen to show up, and Hudler to show up amongst others...Bad call on the icing, but bear down and clear the net so Jimmy can see! Franzen did try to block the shot, but I do agree he kinda looked like a ballerina while doing so, maybe he was just in awe of Daniel....er or Henrik...or was it Daniel? Anyhow...Franzen first and foremost needed to show up last night and he didn't. And those Nuck fans that are gloating and saying how much better they are than the Wings...Gloat away, go ahead, the streak was gonna end sooner or later, not only did you have a blown icing call in your favor (in which game would've been over without it) you also had law of averages in your favor. You should be sad that it took a 6 on 5 for you guys to tie it and a shootout to win it. That there doesn't tell me that you are better than us, just that Burrows got the better of Howard this one time and you guys can score when you have more players on the ice. I really hope these two teams meet in the playoffs, not only is it great hockey (if our "CLUTCH" players decide to show up) but it will be fun to eliminate you guys. Oh and back to breaking the streak, thank you, now the Wings can go back to playing without having this thing in the back of their heads. I am glad it was Vancouver that ended the streak, better than losing to St. Louis or Chicago or worse yet, Pittsburgh. See ya in the playoffs! What time is it? 12 past Luongo....now that is a streak I would hope is more important to you to break, your playoff choking streak. Lovely! I guess Cindy Lee Crosby isn't the biggest diver in the league! I take back all the bad things I have said about him! Sorry Sid! -
1 pointI could never say "no" to Sammy. Especially during the playoffs, when he had a tendency to show up.

1 pointWell i think the kings laugh in our face offering emmerton, kindl and a 2nd for a 27 year old right handed winger that hits a ton and can pk with a good cap hit that has put up 30 goals before.

Top 8 in the West Right Now

Getting rid of the Sharks or the Hawks in the first round? Lets hope the standings maintain something similar come playoff time because there's a few scenarios I like here. Phoenix upsetting the nucks would just cap it off. -

I'm pretty sure Montreal is serious when they say Moen isn't getting dealt, but the return of Sammy? Wouldn't look forward to hearing "Shoots wide" ten more times a night. -
1 pointAlso, his 5 shots on goal (tied for team high tonight), 3:05 PK time (lead all forwards), and increased defensive responsibilities (as opposed to his usual third line minutes). Of course you could choose to overlook the fact that buy his standards he had a pretty good game, and just keep bitching because for some reason he's not an offensive dynamo. Or...and just here me out here...or, you could cut him some slack, quite bitching, and acknowledge (quietly and to yourself), that he had a good game tonight. Whadda say?
-
1 pointThat's funny, I don't usually here people complaining about cycling down low and kicking back to the defenseman when the Wings are leading the league in defense scoring. I thought Clearly was really good defensively and had a lot of jump in his skates tonight. He wasn't a game breaker or anything, but I never expect him to be. Good game Cleary.

Bertuzzi Contract Extension
Uncle Danny reacted to DatsyukianDekes for a post in a topic
Bert played extremely well in the playoffs last year, he dropped the gloves a few times and had the crowd chanting Todd Bertuzzi all night some games. Bert is loved in Detroit, and he loves the city also, and he enjoys playing for the organization. Bert also provides an edge of physicality on the top line along Pavel and creates space for him, although alot of the penalties he takes are on reputation only. This is a good signing, and hope he performs like this year for another 2 years. -

freeredwings.tv stops streaming NHL games
Uncle Danny reacted to WorkingOvertime for a post in a topic
If I had GameCenter Live I wouldn't get close to 82 regular season Wings games a year. Without cable, I wouldn't be able to watch any of the CBJ-Wings games or any of the games on NBCSN. IMO the NHL would gain a lot of subscribers if the blackout restrictions were lifted- how many people would choose to watch via the internet over cable for those games? This problem is furthered during the playoffs, when most games after the first round are on national tv. I don't mind paying the NHL for full access to Wings games. Unfortunately, the NHL does not provide that option for users without cable. -
1 pointThanks for the feed man, I got to see a lot more Red Wings Hockey this year than other years because of you. Your feed was good quality reliable and I didnt have to search through a whole bunch of links before every game.

McCrimmon, Salei on board Russian plane crash
T.Low reacted to Cali-Wing-Nut for a post in a topic
Im at a loss for words and have been for two days now. I feel guilty being so happy that McCrimmon and Salei left the team. Being so caught up in the game and wanting to see the Wings better and wanting anyone gone that doesnt make a perfect Cup winning team blurred the line between players and real people that are on the ice or behind the bench. I hated on Rusty cause he took off so many games to be with his pregnant wife. Its easy to fault him for that at the game level, who couldnt put the team first??? This has put it in persepective. I hope Salei's family especially his new born understands that he put his family before everything. He skipped everything for that little one and I got to hand it to him. A family man should be respected beyond all else cause in the end what else is there? This has been such a f***ed up summer. I hope that what has happened is over. The biggest thing beyond wishing that 2nd world countries didnt have horrible planes is that the league and hopefully the US and CAN can find ways to stave off the liberal prescription and use of Oxycontin. Too many people have been prescribed it for injuries without any oversight to the use after the fact. Some people need it. If you can play in the NHL, YOU DO NOT NEED OXYCONTIN!!!. I wish we could have just had the summer to do innocent thinfs like questioning trades or how the draft went but instead we hear about overdose, suicide and people dying doing their jobs. I pray that this is it, no more death. This should be fun not mourning. My thoughts go to every person affected by the terrible loss in ?Russia as well as the tragic losses of players that died too early. May you all rest in peace. May all your families find peace. -
