A few simple moves huh? You've got 14 new players on the team with this lineup.

Gary Bettman is the worst thing to happen to hockey

    I'm not getting good goaltending

All this talk about teams prospects came up because you said "I don't see why either one would sign with the wings", yet here is a poll done by the players this past year where the 2nd most desired place to play is Detroit and you disregard it. Whatever the players reasons may be, actual NHL players said they would like to play in Detroit. The consensus among the players seem to think Detroit is still a good destination to play and have a chance to win the Stanley Cup and they're right. We still have Datsyuk and Zetterberg in their primes, a good, young, up and coming goaltender, possibly the greatest defenseman of all time, strong ownership, good coaching, smart front office, great scouting and a long history of winning.

First off, I agreed in saying I didn't think Hudler should come back. Secondly, Jiri Hudler is not a sniper - never has been and never will be one. He has always been a pass first player who has a pretty solid shot. He scored his goals in the playoffs the exact same way he scored the bulk of his regular season goals. He routinely set up in front of the net all season long. To me, when people make posts like yours above I honestly wonder if we were watching the same team all year. I'm not trying to insult you but I really don't understand your point of view. When i read posts like that it comes across, to me, as though you just hate him so badly that you just flat out don't want him back on the Wings next year so you look to chastise his game in any fashion you can. Whether that is in fact what you are doing or not, i dont know. But that's the way it comes across.

You aren't? Guy hits him late, around the head, leaps into him. Oh, right, Couture didn't end up in the hospital.

    25 Games for Torres

It's obviously because of his 5 similar hit history, he certainly deserves 25 games. The guy knows how the league is really cracking down on head hits this year and he still gets suspended 3 different times for real bad head hits? Torres is a moron, much like anyone still bitching about Weber.

    Kuznetsov Chooses Russia

I already love them for vodka, and entertaining Liveleak videos, but they're ok for giving the Wings some talent I suppose.

    Kuznetsov Chooses Russia

Imaginary Russian-persecution on a Red Wings board is pretty comical. No other team in the league has had more reasons to love Russia than Detroit has over the last 20 years.

    Kuznetsov Chooses Russia

Listening to you guys hate on Kuznetsovm makes me wonder if you heard that the Cold War was over? I don't have any inside info but here's few reasons he might want to stay home for a couple more seasons: He's 20, he doesn't yet have the muscle mass to withstand the NHL seson, and NHL hitting. He had a shoulder surgery recently, so it would make sense to bulk up to avoid re-injury. He got married just about 9 months ago, could a grandma availability be soon necessary? Guys, this game is supposed to give us joy, not promote bile accumulation. Why so negative?

Gary Bettman is the worst thing to happen to hockey

What do you mean trollin??? First time anyone has accused me of trollin Bettman changed the game so his weaker teams would have a better chance of success 96 Panthers being a perfect example. Major offensive records will never be broken. 2459 fewer goals and over 6000 fewer points scored by players were scored in 97-98 than just 5 years previously in 92-93, Bettman's first full year as commissioner and more than 2000 fewer goals last year than in his first full year. Personally I don't care too much where the game is being played or about the finances of the NHL except where it concerns the on ice product. All the obstruction that was allowed favored the trap and so did the bigger goalie equipment, you had to use some form of the trap to win. This was all manipulated by Bettman to manufacture parity by circumventing talent. His excuse initially for allowing all the obstruction is that too many penalties would slow the game down but as it has been argued then and has been proven now that the player and coaches will adapt to how the game is called. If all penalties are called all the time (when humanly possible, of course a ref may miss some if his view was obstructed and of course we all mistakes) the players, coaches and fans would know what to expect. His excuse for the goalie equipment is that players are bigger and stronger with harder shots and that they need the bigger equipment to protect themselves. At the all-star games they record speeds of slap shots, rarely do they post times higher than Al MaCinnes or Al Iafrate used to post back in the eighties. Back in the seventies Bobby Schmautz shot the puck right through the net a few times. When a goalie played the puck before Bettman was commissioner the players could check him where they can't touch the goalies anymore. So why do they need the extra equipment? I work out with a 20 lb. vest and i could put a regular sized jersey over it and I can't even notice in the mirror and I am sure it would offer more protection than all that big huge padding that they are wearing. It is not protection but puck stopping equipment. On Hockey Night in Canada, Ron MacLean once put Grant Fuhr's entire catching glove into a catching glove goalies use today to demonstrate the great difference in size. The bigger goalie equipment benefited the trap style of play and Bettman allowed both so he indeed can get blamed for it. His underlying motive for allowing obstruction and the bigger goalie equipment was to manufacture parity. As I have shown the goalie equipment need not be any bigger to protect in fact they are more protected by the rules and with the development of technology I am sure they can produce goalie equipment just as big as it was in the eighties that is be much more protective as well. And now that they have instituted the "new rules" it is proven what a joke "calling all the obstruction would slow the game with too many penalties" excuse is. I think it is so funny when the NHL refers to the adjustment they finally made after the last lockout as "new rules". Excuse me but interference, hooking, tripping, holding, have always been rules the only difference is how often they are to be called. If they don't reduce the goalie equipment to the size it was before Bettman was commissioner major offensive records will never be broken. It always creates a lot of excitement and media attention when someone is going for a record. I think hockey is more entertaining to watch when there is not such a strict emphasis on defense

As long as Bettman is still commissioner the article is pertinent. Why are you overwhelmed by the article too difficult for you to comprehend?

I am just cheering for the Kings to win. A Philly/LA final would be a neat storyline. Richards and Carter vs. the team that thought they could win without them.

The Wings already had an advantage with tons of cap space. This just makes the competition for Parise/Suter all the greater.

Gary Bettman is the worst thing to happen to hockey

I don't care how much they make and I think Bettman lucked out because hockey was getting more popular in the U.S. anyway because of the "Miracle on Ice" and International success the U.S has had since then. And as is evidenced by their spending before the Cap the board of governors aren't exactly the brightest bunch

Yeah and it was only 13 percent of all players. That's all well and good, and of course Detroit is a good destination.. But it isn't the one and only place. And it looks like a lot of those votes are based on history alone which is why Toronto and Montreal made the list I assume because they are terrible right now. History and tradition are great things to have but when you're not winning and you're franchise clearly is not built for the future.. You're going to have a tough time attracting top guys who can go anywhere they want. Especially if they get offered more money there. You can have your head in the clouds about all these prospects and think that UFA's are destined to come here all you want but it's going to be a cold slap in the face this summer when none of it materializes.
