What on Earth could you possibly have against Budd Lynch? The guy has been a Wing for 63 years, is in the Hall of Fame, and loves hockey more than probably everyone on this board, combined. The guy is an absolute legend, and familiar voice to those who have been Wings fans for years. Besides, he's just the PA announcer, it's not like Erich Freiny is going to make any difference. But don't worry, at 94, he'll probably be gone before a new stadium is built anyway.

My favorite thing about the Joe is that it's not named after some s***ty corporation. I know the new one will be, but I really loved the fact that the Joe was named after something relevant to Detroit's sporting history.

I am currently seeking a new putter and came across this beautiful specimen, it can be yours for just over a hundred bones. I might get one just to have in my bag, though I am not sure Id use it much...but enough of that Im cuing up Happy Gilmore.

No on EMF because it's not 1990 and the song sucked back then too & no on Gary Glitter because it's not 1972 & personally, I think it would be a good thing to keep all association with kiddie porn out of the new arena. Parents, keep this guy away from the young 'uns: I say keep the personalized goal songs for players but just update them a bit. I've always been disappointed they never busted out Tool's song 'Hooker with a Penis' as Hudler's goal song.

Nothing against enforcer(s),but don't want to see us becoming Bruins/Kings like team. Yes they won it by chasing, dumping, trapping and fore-checking,but the key is still Conn Smythe winning goaltenders. Call me crazy, but I still want Red Wings like team that moves the puck soo damn quick that fore-checking f*ckers come 1 second too late, lol

Step 1) Sign/trade for Bobby Ryan and Colton Orr Step 2) Do a Vulcan Mind Meld Step 3) Put Colton Ryan in as a goal-scoring forward to do our fighting. Step 4) Get Bobby Orr out there to play defense. Ok, now that I've got the silliness out of my head, I would not mind having Colton Orr on the team. The enforcer debate has been done to death, and I've given my nickel's worth time and again, but one thing the team seemed to be lacking, especially during the playoffs, was joy. I know that sounds silly, but they all looked like they were going through the motions- like they were just doing what they were doing but had no purpose. One thing we always hear about with guys like Downey (for example- not saying "bring him back") is how they lift the spirits of the other guys. They kind of act as an internal cheerleader. They build them up when they need the confidence. Enforcers are commonly the "funny guy" in the locker room. No, not that way. Get your minds out of the gutter. I mean they're the guy that cracks the jokes and lightens the mood. They get the team up before the big games, and then go to their place in the press box. Or they play and do their duty. Sure, we need a defenseman. We need a top six guy. We know who most of us want for those spots. July 1st only comes once a year. I'm sure Kenny will be focused on those two, plus any backup plans should those guys get snapped up quickly. But we also need a guy who can bring the joy of playing hockey back to the locker room. And that, my friends, could very likely be an enforcer. Go for it, Kenny!

Several topics have been focusing on the offseason, and the pressure is clearly on Ken to shake things up. Personally, I feel that we need at least one sniper, and at least one grinder for the bottom 6 that will give the 4th line some identity and make this team harder to play against. Obviously, a guy that can contribute offensively once in a blue moon, and a guy capable of skating a regular shift. This list (To nobody's surprise) will focus on the grit aspect. Below is the mother of all lists of both UFAs and RFAs that I feel will make this team harder to play against. The player's age, stats, and cap hit are included. FORWARDS (UFA): *Shane Doan- 35 years old, 50 points and 48 penalty minutes in 79 games, $4.55 mil. He's be a good addition for the top 6. Ideally, I'd like someone younger but he is still an effective player and leader *Taylor Pyatt- 30 years old, 19 points and 23 penalty minutes in 73 games, $1 mil *Dan Winnik- 27 years old, 23 points and 52 penalty minutes in 84 games. $950,000 *Jake Dowell- 27 years old, 7 points and 53 penalty minutes in 52 games, $800,000 *Brad Winchester- 31 years old, 10 points and 88 penalty minutes in 67 games, $725,000 *Byron Bitz- 27 years old, 4 points and 14 penalty minutes in 10 games, $700,000 *Rod Pelley- 27 years old, 3 points and 16 penalty minutes in 52 games, $550,000 I'd consider the following to be a 13th forward to dress when we play a tougher team, like the Blues. *Krys Barch- 32 years old, 5 points and 114 penalty minutes in 51 games, $837,500 *Jay Rosehill- 26 years old, 0 points and 60 penalty minutes in 31 games, $600,000 *Guillaume Desbiens- 27 years old, 0 points and 25 penalty minutes in 10 games, $525,000. Probably will get a 2 way deal with someone. DEFENSEMEN (UFA) *Jim Vandermeer- 32 years old, 4 points and 33 penalty minutes in 25 games, $1 mil FORWARDS (RFA): *T.J. Oshie- 25 years old, 54 points and 50 penalty minutes in 80 games, $2.35 mil *Matt Martin- 22 years old, 14 points and 121 penalty minutes in 80 games, $852,500 *Jamie Benn- 22 years old, 63 points and 55 penalty minutes in 71 games, $821,667 *Mike Blunden- 25 years old, 4 points and 27 penalty minutes in 39 games, $615,000 *Kyle Chipchura- 26 years old, 16 points and 42 penalty minutes in 53 games, $550,000 DEFENSEMEN (RFA) *Theo Peckham- 24 years old, 3 points and 80 penalty minutes in 54 games, $1.075 mil *Mark Fistric- 25 years old, 2 points and 41 penalty minutes in 60 games, $1 mil

Going to the Tigers - Reds game tonight at GABP so hopefully I'll be back in time to catch the puck drop. I'll say the Kings will finish this off and become the new Stanley Cup Champions.

Seeing as you don't know anything about how HFboards prospect rankings work ill break it down for you: Each team has its own prospect reviewer, the reviewers for teams like Pittsburgh and St Louis have had some really liberal reviewers the last few seasons so their ranks are inflated compared to teams like Detroit who the last two years have had a guy who likes to be a lot more conservative on his projections. The people writing these projections tend not to be any more knowledgeable than your common HFboards posters, so I don't put much if any stock into the grades that they post. They do however write pretty good analysis of strengths and weaknesses.

2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils

Kind of like the Red Wings in Game 7 in the 2009 Cup Final vs Pitt?
  18. 1 point
As a group they are probably better than any other team's prospects The Red Wings had more players they drafted on their team than any other this year, they also had more players they drafted playing on other teams than any other team which is very impressive and they did it all by drafting low and trading away a lot of their picks. Amazing. Anybody criticizing the Red Wings prospects or drafting (and there a lot of you) is ridickulous. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1190840-nhl-power-rankings-how-wise-is-your-team-when-it-comes-to-the-nhl-draft

Remind me how much Eric Boulton is helping the Devils in the finals or how much Kyle Clifford has made the Kings win the cup. Goons are for teams that can't fill the stands unless they can play. I'd take Clarkson for sure from the Devils, but its more because he is a net crasher... all of the things in the world we need, the last is toughness the way this list defines it. I just don't see the point. When you don't have much money, and the cash needs to go to better players. I will take an enforcer, if we have all the issues with the team solved. We don't.

I wonder if his locker is still at the bottom of the sea?

olczyk can harp on the weak boarding call but why aren't they talking about Elias bumping into quick seconds before the Devils goal? Especially since Penner got a goalie interference call last game for basically skating near Brodeur.

Until the Wings suck and start getting Top 10 picks they are not going to, and are stuck trying to find talent that will just take longer to develop. This is easily the best the prospect pool has looked in over a decade, so I'm just not getting all the pooh-poohing.
