Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans
Hockey13Playa and 10 others reacted to Valas19 for a post in a topic
Wait wait wait. Now are you telling me that he looked at that amazing up and coming talent pool of the mighty Minnesota Wild and thought the Wings were a better option?? This does not make sense according to a picture painted for us by a certain poster... -

I'll be there with my son in our Red Wings jerseys on Saturday. My son's middle name is Yzerman and I'm hoping that I can get Stevie to autograph a copy of his birth certificate, although I don't know how realistic that goal is. -

Didn't think of him on Helm's wing, but that could be a deadly combo. Both have tons of speed and Brunner should be able to finish if Helm can't. Like it! -
3 pointsAs you've undoubtedly noticed, things look a bit different around here! The LGW Forums have underwent the biggest upgrade since 2010 and there are a lot of significant changes -- far more than I think I could meaningfully gather into this post. Many you'll notice as you continue to surf the forums as many of the enhancements are functional. Bullets: There are currently two "main" template skins, labeled "White" (the default one) and "Red" You're free to switch among them as you see fit by clicking on the "Change Theme" link at the bottom of the page. Removal of profile pictures IP.Board opted to merge the two into one avatar, and as of the last update I believe that remote-linking of images for avatars is no longer permitted (security risk). Speed The forums should show some significant speed improvements. Some of this is due to inline updating: Posts can be added to threads seamlessly. I'll continue to try to make as many speed improvements to the forums as I can. More integration with social media You'll see the ability to add topics to your Facebook/Twitter accounts. Rep System replaced with "Like" button No more +/- functionality as it has been replaced with a "Like this Post" button. Topic Preview When viewing the forum index (like 'General Discussion' here), you can mouseover a topic and see a dark gray down arrow icon appear to the right -- click it to expand the topic to view the first few posts before going to the topic page itself. TapaTalk functionality is BACK Some members have been clamoring for it to return as a mobile viewing option, so here it is. TapaTalk is now compatible with the forum (in addition to the standard Mobile theme that's also available if you're still looking for an easy mobile browsing solution.) Custom Topic Tags Options vary by forums and by member group, but there are now customized topic tags (or 'badges'). In the past it was limited to "PINNED" and "POLL", but I've expanded that to include "GDT" (for Game Day Threads), "SIGNED" for *official* signings, and "TRADE" for topics discussing an official trade. (Do not abuse this ability! It's a great visual aid for visitors of the forums and those that abuse it will be promptly suspended/banned.) Better Spam Protection All new registrations are IP checked against a known spam list remotely hosted and updated. This should help eliminate a large number of spammers that manually attempt to register and stops them before even seeing the registration form. New Profile "Statistics" Tab Just what it says: No see just how addicted you are to LGW by looking at your recorded posting habits by time of day and by forum activity. Gallery Link added to Profile A new "Gallery" tab has been added to your User Profile, for quick access to see what user's have uploaded and shared with the community. Topic "Tags" These replace the the topic subtitle (the smaller, gray text that was present on the last version). You can enter up to 10 per topic, separated by commas. Use vital keywords describing the topic, like a player name, team, etc., and it'll help catalog forum topics more efficiently to help search engine spiders and the search feature here work more efficiently. There are plenty more, and I'll add to this thread as I can -- right now I'll be tending to little bug fixes here and there that tend to pop up following a major upgrade like this. (Also, if any members see something I didn't mention, please feel free to add it here!)

He'll be a 3rd/4th liner if anything, inwhich he should be on Helms wing... as a third line with helm centering and brunner on his right wing with that beaut of a shot and speed... SPEED OVERLOAD BOYS. But seriously, Helmer should have a hell of a season with Brunner... I think. -

We Need to Get Tougher to Play Against
F.Michael and one other reacted to frankgrimes for a post in a topic
Finally the management gets it its a relief seeing Nil and especially Holland stating, what we as fans have been saying for years now. My ideal bottom 6 forward would be a guy like Bolland. I am glad, we do have cap space signing guys like Scott, Prust, Konopka and maybe Macintyre (doubt Pitts trades with us though), would easily make us one of the toughest teams in the league. Mess with Zetterberg? Good luck next shift against Scott I know its just a dream but think about that off season: skill: Parise and/or Suter: toughness: Konopka, Prust, Scottt and Macintyre 2 big problems fixed in one season now thats a retool! Nil saying that this draft isn't as strong as they hoped means, we can take some risks and draft physical guys who may or may not pan out. -
2 pointsI tire of trying to reason with you. You say that a team's history doesn't matter, fine, we'll leave history out of it. We give you examples of the current success of our team next to the lack luster performance of the wild, and that doesn't matter because we're old. Then the wild's prospects are so much better than the Red Wings and because the Wild's prospects are so ready for the NHL and are future super stars while ours just plain suck. Your entire argument is just one slippery slope fallacy after another. The past isn't giving you the answer you want, and the present certainly didn't give you what you were looking for, so now the future is very uncertain in Detroit? the future is uncertain everywhere. sure, Parise might go to the Wild, or he might go to Detroit, He might even sign in the KHL for eleventy billion dollars. The future success of the Wild is just as uncertain as the downfall of the Red Wings. So you can keep having this, "me against the internet" thing you've got going on, or you can just have a regular conversation with the rest of us.

Red Wings Prepared to Offer Hudler Contract
Rick D and one other reacted to SwedeLundin77 for a post in a topic
Reality check.. Hudler most recently made what? 2.8 million? There isn't a chance in hell he'll play for us at 3 million, so let's just clear that up right now. He'll easily get 4 million with several other teams, and that's why we should just stop talking about him. He's all about the money, and one dimensional.... I'd much rather let Nyquist/Sheahan have his time and see what they can do. I'd also like for us to stop wasting Eaves away on the 4th line, the guy can pot 20 goals if you give him he time and linemates. -

2012 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

I love the NHL draft, get to see that first overall pick, players who get picked considerably higher/lower then expected, the block buster trades! Love it! Next comes free agency! Great time of the year (besides the actual season). -

NHL Awards
Z Winged Dangler and one other reacted to Dirty Dangle for a post in a topic
I don't know how else to say it, but the NHL needs to cut the s*** and just hand out the damn awards. The NHL is not thinking of its audience when it plans these awards shows. Don't have celebraties give out the awards, have current and former players give out the awards. Am I the only one thinking that Ted Lindsay should be the one handing out the Ted LIndsay Award? And stop with the lame ass jokes. This isn't the Oscars or the Golden Globes. The audience for the NHL Awards is narrower and more concerned with the actual awards than being "entertained." The show could easily be an hour long and provide a better product than what currently exists. -

High End Trade Options
Z Winged Dangler reacted to dirtydangles for a post in a topic
The only reason I see Staal wanting Detroit would be that Z and Dats are almost 10 years older and he would allow them to play together again and he would be guaranteed the future in Detroit unlike Pens who have 2 young unbelievable centres in Crosby and Malkin. Staal is the best fit I think of the 3 but also the youngest. Lowest price tag would be ryan then staal (because ufa in 1 year) then nash would be highest i bet. I'd do Franzen, Abby, Jurco, 2nd for Staal at the draft. Abby can be replaced. Franzen is a sniper they want, but his age is an issue so they would want a sexy prospect like Jurco. Then throw in the 2nd rounder. -

Bobby Ryan
Z Winged Dangler reacted to GoWings1905 for a post in a topic
I really fail to see the point of the Red Wings making trades right now. Why give up valuable assets when they have the ability to address their needs through free agency very soon? They have the cap space to sign the top free agents available without giving up major pieces of the team now and in the future. Trades would be a nice fallback option after July 1st maybe, but I don't see any reason for Holland to start making deals at the draft. -

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz
Frozen-Man reacted to hockey23 for a post in a topic
There are Schedule A and Schedule B bonuses for entry-level contracts. Schedule A bonuses have a max of $850k and they're for games played mostly, but I believe they can include other stats like ice time, points, and plus/minus. Schedule B bonuses have a max of $2M and are pretty much for trophies such as the Hart, Norris, Calder, and Conn Smythe. The Schedule B bonuses seem pretty much impossible for players on ELCs to actually earn , other than the $212k Calder bonus. So, realistically, Schultz can only earn his $875k salary plus $850k in schedule A bonuses. -

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz
Z Winged Dangler reacted to ogreslayer for a post in a topic
I know it's a limited sample size in some cases (Smith & Commodore), but here's what the Wings d-men looked like from a points per game standpoint last season: Smith: 0.5 Lidstrom: 0.49 Kronwall: 0.44 White: 0.42 Stuart: 0.26 Kindl: 0.24 Ericsson: 0.16 Commodore: 0.12 Now I'm not saying that Smith is going to be the next Lidstrom, but 7 points in 14 games and from what I remember watching those games, Smith did not look out of place at all. Oh, and he got those points playing on the 3rd pairing if I remember correctly. And yes, there are higher expectations for Smith & assumed much more potential than Ericsson because Smith=27th pick/Ericsson=291st. I think though that ultimately the debate on Schultz will be solved by him turning down a contract with the Wings because he won't have a guarantee to make the big club his first year. He'll wind up playing big minutes in Toronto or Edmonton & missing the playoffs year after year instead based on current rumors. -

Zach Parise
T-Ruff reacted to Doc Holliday for a post in a topic
Why don't you describe what is going on in the opening post instead of saying "Hey, here is a link, click it and take my word for what is on it"? 25 minute mark has talking about LA rioting (or lack therof) after their cup win. Nothing about Zach Parise. 27 minute mark talking about crowds and random crap. Head coach for LA going to stay? Who knows in this radio broadcast. 28 Phil Jackson talk. Radio host says "Let's leave Parise aside for the time being". So 3 minutes after you say we should start listening they discuss Parise only to say that they aren't going to talk about it yet? Jeez, man. 30 minutes in: Leopold says nobody is going to outbid the Wild. So if Parise is going anywhere, it is for less money. The guy just assumes that Parise isn't going to be here simply because the Wild's GM is going to throw as much money as he can at him. Implying Holland can't afford to do that as well. Not bad news, just more of what we assumed would happen. -

Red Wings make offer to Damien Brunner
Z Winged Dangler reacted to Andy Pred 48 for a post in a topic
A slick offensive forward who can shoot as well as pass the puck. Has great wheels and hands. Plays a gritty game. that is latest scouting report on Brunner,26yr 5'11" 187lb. Parise is 27yr 5'11" and 194lb so i dont see a big diff in size. It seems its the european aspect that puts some fans off. Parise is proven NHL i grant you but i watched most of the WC games involving the Swiss side and Brunner looked good. He had 1+1 and was a +1 in the 2-3 loss to Canada, where he was up against Phaneuf,Keith,Bouwmeester,Methot,Schenn and Quincey who are all over 6' and 200lb+ and he handled himself well. and if memory serves me well are all physical players. If kenny can get him on board for the min $ then i dont think he will be a huge risk. -
1 pointI'm all for it. These are pretty low-risk propositions. Brunnstrom could have been amazing, but he wasn't, so we dumped him in the AHL. Especially since he's a shooter, go for it, just don't hinge the success of the team on him. He looks amazing, but then again, everyone does in highlight clips. And those defensemen looked pretty terrible, too. But if his first instinct is to shoot, we need him.
