Trade Ian White?
winger30 and one other reacted to BigWillieStyle for a post in a topic
White is a known commodity, where as Schultz has yet to play an NHL game. I don't think it would be a very smart move on Kenny's part to weaken even more, an already weak defense, just to pander to some snot nosed kid who demands that he starts for an NHL team. You earn your spot with your play in Detroit. If you don't want to buy into the system, there is not much of a future for you as a player here. This, of course, is just my opinion. -

1 pointAs you've undoubtedly noticed, things look a bit different around here! The LGW Forums have underwent the biggest upgrade since 2010 and there are a lot of significant changes -- far more than I think I could meaningfully gather into this post. Many you'll notice as you continue to surf the forums as many of the enhancements are functional. Bullets: There are currently two "main" template skins, labeled "White" (the default one) and "Red" You're free to switch among them as you see fit by clicking on the "Change Theme" link at the bottom of the page. Removal of profile pictures IP.Board opted to merge the two into one avatar, and as of the last update I believe that remote-linking of images for avatars is no longer permitted (security risk). Speed The forums should show some significant speed improvements. Some of this is due to inline updating: Posts can be added to threads seamlessly. I'll continue to try to make as many speed improvements to the forums as I can. More integration with social media You'll see the ability to add topics to your Facebook/Twitter accounts. Rep System replaced with "Like" button No more +/- functionality as it has been replaced with a "Like this Post" button. Topic Preview When viewing the forum index (like 'General Discussion' here), you can mouseover a topic and see a dark gray down arrow icon appear to the right -- click it to expand the topic to view the first few posts before going to the topic page itself. TapaTalk functionality is BACK Some members have been clamoring for it to return as a mobile viewing option, so here it is. TapaTalk is now compatible with the forum (in addition to the standard Mobile theme that's also available if you're still looking for an easy mobile browsing solution.) Custom Topic Tags Options vary by forums and by member group, but there are now customized topic tags (or 'badges'). In the past it was limited to "PINNED" and "POLL", but I've expanded that to include "GDT" (for Game Day Threads), "SIGNED" for *official* signings, and "TRADE" for topics discussing an official trade. (Do not abuse this ability! It's a great visual aid for visitors of the forums and those that abuse it will be promptly suspended/banned.) Better Spam Protection All new registrations are IP checked against a known spam list remotely hosted and updated. This should help eliminate a large number of spammers that manually attempt to register and stops them before even seeing the registration form. New Profile "Statistics" Tab Just what it says: No see just how addicted you are to LGW by looking at your recorded posting habits by time of day and by forum activity. Gallery Link added to Profile A new "Gallery" tab has been added to your User Profile, for quick access to see what user's have uploaded and shared with the community. Topic "Tags" These replace the the topic subtitle (the smaller, gray text that was present on the last version). You can enter up to 10 per topic, separated by commas. Use vital keywords describing the topic, like a player name, team, etc., and it'll help catalog forum topics more efficiently to help search engine spiders and the search feature here work more efficiently. There are plenty more, and I'll add to this thread as I can -- right now I'll be tending to little bug fixes here and there that tend to pop up following a major upgrade like this. (Also, if any members see something I didn't mention, please feel free to add it here!)

Of the two, I would prefer Parise as well, but the Wings needs at this point dictate Suter signing is more imperative. I have my fingers crossed. -

Ken and Mick will never let us forget that Maltby scored 50. -
1 pointSounds like he has a good head on his shoulders, though, which sets him a bar above Grigs, Brunnstrom (when he first arrived in the NHL), Leino, etc. Grigs was arrogant and entitled, as was Brunnstrom. Leino was obsessed with finding a girlfriend and having fun. But from what I've heard Brunner is a no-nonsense kind of guy and that could help him over here. Although credit where credit is due, Brunnstrom has evolved and now has a much better attitude and work ethic.

I guess it depends on how you define soft. If softness is rated on how often you fight or pu your glove in someone's face after the whistle then yeah, Filppula is soft. If it's determined by when the puck is in play, then Filpulla isn't soft at all. He battles hard, and he wins puck battles way more than he losses them. I guess it depends on what you care about when it comes to hockey. Good players or just how "manly" hockey makes you feel. And who cares whether it's self defense or not? If Rocky Balboa instigated a fight with me and I knocked him out, would I still be soft because that was in self defense? If Filpulla was soft he wouldn't ever need to defend himself. And yeah, the announce said Filpulla got hit by Engelland..before he knew Filppula was going to put him on his ass. If all you care about is fights, go watch the ducks or flyers bro. The 32nd highest scoring forward in the league? 12th highest scoring center? Incredible skater, Selke level play? Captain material? Okay, I'll take it. What does someone have to do to make you a fan of them? -
1 pointFlip is one of those players who puts up nice numbers, and he's a solid player, but he's never wowed me (or a lot of other people). I would only trade him for a player who is as close to a guaranteed upgrade as you could get. He's a great defensive player, but I just don't see him breaking out like so many people hope for every year. He had a good year this year, but does anyone really see him as a game changer like Datsyuk or Zetterberg? Or even someone like Helm, who can string together amazing plays and change the momentum of a game? Again, not trashing Flip, he's got great talent and has some great games, but I just don't see him as indispensable if we can get an upgrade for him and a pick or something.

Trade Ian White?
SouthernHockeyHoney reacted to Travis for a post in a topic
As most others have said, the Wings are totally capable of upgrading their D without trading White. Obviously, Suter is the top priority but I'd love to see Matt Carle sign with Detroit and would feel pretty good about a defense with White, Suter, Kronwall, and Carle. I can't imagine why the Red Wings would trade him, sure his value is high - and anyone who plays with Lids will be better - but it's not like we signed some schmuck or career AHLer who lucked out. White outperformed career numbers, sure, but he's still a valuable piece of this team. -

It's pretty comical how many people think unproven players and rookies can walk into Hudler's spot and put 25+25 up. -

The guy the Wings really need to jump on is Yandle. Spector's Hockey is reporting that Yandle is on the trading block right now. That kid can flat out play (offensively and defensively). He's a young defenseman who could win a Norris one day. -

Zach Parise
SouthernHockeyHoney reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
Listen, in the Cap world, your highest paid player on your team can only make up to a certain percentage of the teams payroll...so to say that Leopold is going to offer him so much that if he goes somewhere else, he is going to have to take less is absurd. Holland (along with most other teams) has enough cap space available that they can ALL offer Parise the most money. Whatever Leopold offer's Parise it would be stupid to think that Holland could not match it, and if that amount is more than $9M, he would be stupid TO match it. For God's sake Crosby is ready to sign a contract that will pay him $9M a year, do you honestly think that Parise deserves Crosby type money? If Leopold offers Parise upwards of $10M+ then he is just sinking the NHL further into oblivion. I would HOPE, HOPE that Holland does not offer Parise $10M per year. I believe that Holland is prepared to offer up to $8M. That is it. If Parise signs anywhere outside of 5 or 6 teams that are legit contenders, for more money, he is not only an indiot, he is in it for the money and doesn't want to win. We have said all along, he may or may not end up here, he just may sign in Minnesota, but he won't be winning a Cup anytime soon if he goes there. But hey, the choice is his and he will the choice for his own needs... -
