Parise Likely Out. Next Options

Being realistic, if $10M is indeed what he seeks, then I like Semin and Doan for less combined! Suter always been #1 priority anyhow...I would love Parise, but can live without him.... -

Shane Doan to test free agency
Dabura and 3 others reacted to Echolalia for a post in a topic
Could you imagine the hunger and intensity a team consisting of Doan, Parise, and Helm would possess? Hell I would love to see those three on a line together just to witness the chaos. -
3 pointsAgreed. I think in the wings top 6 he coudl still put up about 60 points and 25 goals. Hes a righty so he would see PP time no doubt. He also provides that awesome physical presence the wings top 6 has lacked since Shanny. A little of a Dallas Drake feel to him come playoff time cause you know he would be going balls out all the time and can be a game changer in a variety of ways. I really hope the wings can land him

Ya, a good indicator, eh? No Parise? No Problem....Semin and Doan will fill the order... How about Doan and Moen? That would be an anouncer's nightmare....'Doan from Moen back to Moen to Doan, Doan Scores!" -

Rick D and one other reacted to Red Crazy for a post in a topic
If Doan does in deed leave the Yotes he will pick a team that he has the most chance of getting a cup before he retires. I would be really surprised to see him sign until all the July 1st dust has settled and he can make his choice then. He is exactly what the Wings need. He is a great guy that wears his heart on his sleeve and plays at 120% every night. -

doan jumps to number 2 on my most wanted forwards list behind parise. he is exactly what the wings need. physical, shoots right handed, and will get you 20 goals and 50 points. plus, he will have that drive and hunger to finally get his name on the stanley cup. -

Everyone on the list is a lock. Shanny is just the odd man out. But he will be there. -

You must be joking. Shanny should've definitely made this list... but of all of them, I'd say only Sakic is a no-brainer not to replace. As others have stated, Sundin is the question mark here. Bure had more talent, but a career ended short. Oates was amazing, but never won a cup. Sakic captained a team that won cups, contended for scoring trophies until very late in his career, defined the word class on the ice and off. I'm truly shocked at your naming him here. I'm a Red Wings fan through and through, but if Joe Sakic isn't a first ballotter, I don't know who is. -
2 pointsI, for one, have no problem with using guys like Lidstrom and Yzerman as your benchmark. In the entire history of the Red Wings, they have only retired 6 numbers (7, if you count Larry Aurie's #6). That's less than 1 per decade. Even when Lidstrom's number is retired, it will still be less than 1 number retired per decade of the team's existence. Jersey retirement is the ULTIMATE way of saluting a player's career. The way the club can say "Your contributions to this sport, this city and this team were so special that no one will EVER be able to wear that number again". Does anyone REALLY want the club to start a policy of "Come here, win a few cups, and we'll honor you the same way we honored Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, or Steve Yzerman"? That would cheapen the honor immeasurably (See: Colorado Avalanche & Ray Borque). Besides, no one wants the Wings rafters to be like the Canadiens, who have retired #'s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 12 again, 16, 16 again, 18, 19, 23, 29, and 33.

1 pointSemin and Doan for the same money as Parise? Tough call but I lean towards Semin and Doan for sure. 9-10 is way too much $

Adam Oates to coach the Capitals

So because another team signed him he's automatically a great coach? By logic, Lebda is a great defenseman because another team signed him. -

Steve Ott - anyone interested in getting him?
Rick D reacted to DangleDangleBeach for a post in a topic
i would take ott in a heartbeat. he pisses his opponents off, plays high energy and finishes every single check. he kills penalties, even can play holmstrom like pp role, is solid on faceoffs(55% last year), will stick up for his teammates . he does all of this and more but also has an offensive touch as well... a GREAT 3rd line center/wings who adds quite a few elements this team could really use and havent had recently. just my opinion though. -

What does the Bure induction mean in the future? (Now just an example) Does this mean Crosby can retire now and get into the hall considering just 170 points fewer in 268 fewer games? Pretty much means Eric Lindros is for sure now. Is Cam Neely's production the line you have to be over now? -

Something the Wings don't have is that guy that other teams & other teams fans just loathe. A guy that gets under your skin even before he steps on the ice. I wouldn't mind having Ott as that guy on the Wings at all if the price were right. They could use someone that will get the other team off their game again...like a douchier/edgier Maltby like I said before. -

Kind of a much douchier/edgier version of Maltby imo. If the price were right, sure. I just wonder if he was a 50 goal scorer in juniors. -
1 pointIf you think about it though, what arguments do you have for Shanahan over Sundin? Yes, he scored more goals, but Sundin still had 564 goals. Sundin scored the same number of points (give or take a few) in almost 200 less games. I also think Sundin's international experience is a little more accomplished than Shanny's. I think Shanhan's very low points per game stat hurt him. He'll get in eventuall though. If you look at this year's list, I could argue Shanny over Sundin, Oates or Bure, but you could argue the other way too. The only non-argument would be that Sakic is a lock over them all. Oates...much better ppg than Shanny, but after that, not much to say. Bure....the question mark there is the fact his career was cut short....did he do enough? I think his talents were superior to Shanahan's, his gpg and ppg stats blow Shanny's out of the water, but that has been shown in the past not to matter much when you are talking about shorter careers. Bure waited awhile to get in though.

Z Winged Dangler reacted to Jedi for a post in a topic
I'd say no. HOF, for sure, but he didn't have a long enough & illustrious enough career in a Wings jersey to belong next to the other 6 guys up there (7, surely, next year with #5 going up there). Compare Stevie & Nick's numbers compared with Shanny's. Stevie - 22 seasons in Detroit, Captain for 20 seasons, Lester B Pearson Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, Selke Trophy, Masterton Trophy, 3 Time Stanley Cup Champion. Nick - 20 seasons in Detroit, Captain for 6 seasons, 7 Norris Trophies, Conn Smythe Trophy, 4 time Stanley Cup Champion. Shanny - 9 seasons in Detroit, King Clancy Memorial Trophy. 3 time Stanley Cup Champion. It's easy to see that Shanny had a great career as a Red Wing, and that he was an indispensable part of the '97, '98 and '02 Cup teams. However, when you compare resume's in the Red Wings uniform, his just doesn't match up to Stevie's or Nick's. This is why I think the new arena should have a "Ring of Honor" or something like it. That way guys like Shanny, McCarty, Draper, Maltby, Homer, etc can be honored, without taking that number out of circulation. -

I'd rather put him on helms wing on the third than put helm on the fourth. -
1 pointActually, no. The Wings would still have more. And also that creates another open hole in the Pens roster and they already have twice as many players to sign than the Wings. It's really not that feasible for the Pens to do this unless they want to lose Crosby in a couple seasons.
