2012 Lockout Watch
WizardOfOz30 and 3 others reacted to sibiriak for a post in a topic
Using the same logic, owners being willing to forgo the revenues proves that they don't really have to charge as much for the tickets? Let's face it, the players would play this game for 100k/year since they are not likely to make even that much in any other job. But every dollar that the players don't get goes into the owners pockets. Personally, I don't really care how much money players make or how much profit the owners get. It's just that when the 2 sides squabble over the division of the money, I tend to sympathize with players because they are the ones I like to watch playing. The owners give out the contracts of their own free will, so I have no sympathy for them. -

Not sure if serious, Malkin will easily make more, same thing applies to Datsyuk and some other Russians. The owners are the ones giving out such massive contracts, you can't howl with the wolves and then cry poor, the league has been absolutely ridiculous in terms of handeling this CBA process. -

Monster All Padded Up...
Z Winged Dangler reacted to Wing Across The Pond for a post in a topic
Since there isn't much going on (still), thought I'd put up this picture that was just shared by the Detroit Red Wings Facebook... Monster sure looks good in the red and white, and I have to say those pads look sweet. Simple, crisp white. Like an Ice Monster Excited for the new season when I see things like this. -
1 pointsaw this today.... Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Red Wings Patrick Eaves hasn’t played since suffering a concussion last November. His headaches are ‘fewer and further between’, but he still hasn’t been cleared by team doctors. Eaves said, “that the bad part is behind me now. This is part of the progress, skating with other guys and trying to get used to that. The speed is, obviously, not what it is at training camp. I’m just happy to be out there with the guys.” I'll be so stoked when this guy is back. I've always been a fan of helm and eaves. especially on the PK.

Patrick Eaves Skating again

This sucks. Was a horrible incident though and I guess taking a puck to the head is always going to take longer to recover from that a hit to the head. I think saving graces are that we're pretty flush on offense at the moment and a lockout could give him more time to recover but boy I want to see Eaves skating again soon. -

1 point:{ BRING BACK THE SICK FLOW. I love me some Patty Eaves, and we certainly can use him as he is one of the best PK'ers and he's a right handed shot. Really depressing to see taking one for the team can take you out for so long.

1 pointUpdate on Patty http://octopusthrower.com/2012/09/04/patrick-eaves-injury-update-still-struggling-with-headaches/ My heart dropped when that puck hit him but I didn't expect it to be this long of a recovery. I also really annoys me that when Crosby was out I had to hear/read about it every few days. It seemed like every time he saw a doctor we got a full report (no matter how minor the progress was) but there has been hardly any major articles about Eaves since the day the puck hit. Just kind of bums me out.

Agreed. It's just another case of the league talking out of both sides of its mouth. wanting the players to "partner with us," while we take away more and more of your money and decisionmaking power. "There's no salary rollback, it'll go into an escrow account until the end of the season, where it'll ultimately end up back in the owners' pockets." It makes sense that the owners would be the major decision maker in schedules and realignment, but Bettman acts like it's a terrible inconvenience to have to check with the union on these things. If he had any diplomacy skills at all he would've involved the players more and the owners wouldn't need more legal reinforcement of their decision-making power. I don't remember hearing about the NHLPA making any unreasonable demands about the realignment, just that they wanted time to look at it and figure out what it meant for their hundreds of constituents who get shipped all over North America 9 months out of the year. It is all truly so stupid. If we lose another season, I'm not coming back as long as Bettman is commissioner. I love hockey, but there's plenty of other ways I can spend my time and money. -

Honestly, at this point anyone would help. We need warm bodies on defense or else we're in real trouble once injuries hit. -
1 pointpierre lebrun's take on negotiations http://espn.go.com/n...ate-discussions let's not forget that the players aren't putting any effort into getting negotations going again either neither side has shown any urgency. otherwise i agree with the rest of your post

1 pointThis is so stupid. I seriously think Bettman and Co. wanted to take a year off, devised a plan for doing so, and are following it through to fruition. They were responsible for setting the meetings, which they did at the last minute, and ever since then they've had a negative rhetoric about how far apart the two sides are. Then they announced right off the bat that they would not use the option to play another year on the current CBA and they would go for a lockout. All of this screams bad faith. The initial low-ball offer I can understand from a negotiation point of view even if it reeks of smarmyness <---It's a word because I say so. I don't see any effort on the part of the league nor any urgency as the deadline approaches. Either they seriously don't want this season to happen or they are posturing, and doing so badly.

Bobby Hull would have also made a difference. But Canada would have had a tough time against the Soviets either way. Their team was together all year, while Canada's team needed time to gel together. -

One Dumb move made by each team this offseason
Z Winged Dangler reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
What's funny about this scenario is, Ryan Suter said he called Dany Heatley and asked him if they could win in Minnesota and Heatley said "yes" and that made his decision to scoff the Wings and go with in-laws a little easier, so if the cap goes down and they have to dump salary, Heatley will be the one traded... I find this very ironic and f**ckin All-Star hilarious! on a side note, I cannot wait for Suter to regret being swayed by his in-laws...verbal agreement with Detroit, then persuaded to go to Minny by wife and her family...for basically pennies more (when it comes to the millions he signed for) that is sad...so sad... -

After reading an article in mlive today, and he's not on the current roster, but he is on the payroll I'm gonna go with Jiri Fischer. After reading how much he misses the game, I just think it's a damn shame that he wasn't able to finish his career. 6'5, could move the puck, mean as hell and was just turning into a star. Could we ever use him today, plus he's an absolute stand up dude, met him a few years ago and chatted for 20 minutes with a complete stranger. Classic Red Wing -
