I'm curious. Without taking sides: why do you believe the players should give up anything at all? Why are the owners entitled to anymore than they already get? This was their dream CBA 7 years ago after all. From the beginning of this CBA negotiation, the owners never risked losing anything, only something to gain. There was never the risk of the owners percentage being lowered.

I wouldn't want to see the entire season cancelled, but if it were to happen...I would want to see both Bettman and Fehr canned!

    2012 Baseball thread

Yeah, while I feel for Girardi's loss, that's a pretty weak explanation. His dad passed away last Saturday and the Yankees still played the Orioles series during that span and won. They have no emotion because all of that high-priced talent can't hit the ball except off Valverde. Probably doesn't help their home fans that showed up booed everyone on the team in a heartbeat. TBS and Sager were full of excuses for the Yankees though instead of doing anything to give the Tigers some credit. 0.94 ERA from the starters so far in the playoffs. Throw in some timely hitting and you've got yourself a very dangerous team if the bullpen doesn't implode. This series is far from over, but the Tigers are the reason the Yankees look listless.

I think we're going to lose it anyway. Might as well get something in return for it.

Please oh please can the lockout end so that we can get back to hockey so that I don't have to hear about Jordin Tootoo's bear hunting desires?

I've had about enough of all this lockout talk. As best as I can tell given that I don't speak Swiss, Damien Brunner is tearing it up in the Swiss League. 5 goals and 7 assists in 9 games. Additionally he's got nearly twice as many shots on goal as the Omark (who leads the team in points, though with two more games than Brunner). Absolutely can't wait until Hank gets over there and suits up with him, I'm dying to see what Brunner's shot can do with Z creating space for him. His release is quick and should be very effective in the NHL, and his finishing ability seems (admittedly based on not much) to be better than Hudler's. Here's hoping all that success isn't do to shoddy Swiss defense. I've got high hopes for this guy!

Dreger's reporting that CBA talks will resume tomorrow in Toronto. No word yet on what the topics of discussion will be, but I'm betting it's not "Core Economic Issues". My guess? Such inconsequential topics as whether the PA should force all players to wear solid white skate laces, or if Ovechkin's yellow laces will be allowable.

Ha, we have tickets cheaper than that to AHL games. Good seats are $26 and glass runs $40. Haha, hockey in Texas.

The amount of people that voted yes is outrageous.

I am absolutely shocked at the poll results thus far. I could care less about Bettman. Sure, he's not very likeable, I can't stand the guy, but he really has little impact on me. I'd sign him to a 20 year contract if it meant I could start watching NHL hockey again tomorrow. Would be nice to see a new person come in, but I'd be willing to bet that we would all start to form some hatred for that person as well....maybe a little less so though. I'm not sure it would have a signficant impact on lockouts vs. no lockouts though as that is really the owners decision. I know some will reference the fact that there needs to be 22 votes to overturn vs. what you would expect (15), but I'd bet you'd still seem the signficant power from a signficant vew owners. What I'd be more interested in seeing is a replacement of the chairman of the Board (i.e. get rid of Jacobs).

I wouldn't sacrifice a full season to ensure that Bettman was canned. Hell, even if that did happen, the owners could hire in someone even worse. Right now, Bettman is a serious problem, but Fehr is a big problem as well. Maybe not as big as Bettman, but still a sizable one. What we need are two sides that get along and are eager to work together to make the sport better. So far, I am not convinced that either Bettman or Fehr are interested in doing this. You can say I am turned off by the way that both sides are not willing to budge at all on the money issue. At this point though, I wouldn't sacrifice another season just to see these two greedy asshats get canned.

I think Z, and the rest of the players, are just and frustrated with the situation. They'll be back.

It is called a joke. No sympathy, because you had none to start with. You also added the word new. This is a round about stab at the players, as if given the opportunity to play they would lockout the owners. The owners locked out the players from making the money they agreed to pay them. If you wanna knock Tootoo, do it over the bears atleast that shows you care about something other than your longing to watch NHL hockey. Think I need another month off. EDIT: Hey, try and have some sympathy for the charities and donations that Tootoo supports with that undeserved money.

Didn't that hack put up 30 pts. last season? On a team that doesn't score much no less? Which would give him more points than Helm, Miller, Abby, Emmerton, and Holmstrom. And he plays physical. And he scraps. Not mad about this one dude.

I really don't see this happening in November for two key reasons. First, the Winter Classic is one of the few things Bettman has done right; it is his baby and takes great pride in it. This is huge exposure AND money for the league. I'm not surprised the Red Wings are one of the teams pushing for an end to the lockout; they'll be hurt the most (financially) with no Winter Classic. November is too early to pull the plug. Second, and this is pure speculation; nothing would make Bettman tingle in all the right places more than working out a deal in early December so he is able to kick off the season with the Winter Classic. I can't be the only one who is picturing gary on the mic in front of 113,000 people saying "we wanted to bring back hockey to the world's greatest fans in one of the greatest money making hockey markets city's in the world."

Flat out, anyone who uses the "Bettman is doing what the owners want and working for them" defense of him is just proving the point of why he should be removed. A GOOD commissioner of any league does what is the best for the league and makes the hard stances AGAINST the owners when need be, they do not just give the spoiled brats whatever they want, whenever they want and be a yes man. A commissioner works for the league, not the owners. Bettman is a spineless yes man that bends over at all of the bog's whims and never tells them no, even when it's what is best for the LEAGUE. More games lost than ALL of the other 3 major sports combined under Bettman's watch... Tell me again how he is doing a good job... The NHL needs a leader and a visionary, not a spineless weasel that won't stand up to the owners in the best interest of the league when he needs to... and to put it quite bluntly, if you disagree with this post, then you are beyond logic and not worth debating with anyway.
