He seems like a really nice guy. I hope he finds a good home where he's happy, and I wish him the best- except against us. I still remember that Islanders game. -

Ericsson
Ram reacted to Detroit # 1 Fan for a post in a topic
I haven't seen any threads on the board about him yet this year, so I figured I'd start one. Let me start off by saying I've been perhaps the biggest Ericsson critique on the boards the past 3 seasons. His passing was horrible, his decisions baffling, he played like he was Hudlers size in the D-zone. But that was then and this is now. Ericsson has been, at least to me, our best overall defenseman. He's making great decisions with the puck in his end consistently, his passes are tape to tape quick and hard, he's getting shots through on the offensive side of things and it's leading to offense for the team. He's got a goal and 3 assists to go along with a +2 through 8 games, pretty damn good, especially for Big E. But perhaps the best thing about his play this year, is he's taken steps forward in being that big mean defenseman he has to be. Knocking guys around the net, clearing the crease. He developed into a decent penalty killer last season, and that's stayed true this year. His hits and blocked shots #'s aren't anything to look twice at yet, but I'm sure they'll get there. Anyway, I just wanted to pump the guys tires because he has completely changed the way I think of him and look at him as a D-man. Keep er going E. -

MabusIncarnate reacted to evilzyme for a post in a topic
I don't see all the hate on MacDonald. When he came up for us, he came up big. When we needed him, he threw out some outstanding performances. If he did get claimed, and was able to secure himself a back-up role permanently for someone, I would be happy. He certainly could help out someone, just unfortunately it can't be for us. Howie, Monster and Mrazek seem to be the future of this organization right now (obviously we haven't seen Monster, but I feel like he's going be outstanding for us when needed) -

Even though they lost the game, Rafalski's game 5 goal is my favorite goal/ celebration. The look on his face is joy in the purest form. Still gives me chills when I watch that game. -

"Stadium"? No, but the Wings could use a new arena. Just make sure to bring the boards from the Joe though. -

Three goals allowed on 71 shots in two games over less than 24 hours. I'll take it! -

Call me crazy but I'd call 37 saves on 38 shots thru two periods an elite performance.. -

Jimmy looks petty damn elite today.. "Average" is wayy under rating him. He's been great all season long. -
1 pointI said this last year several times, but the JLA DJ really needs to cue up Van Halen's "Top Jimmy" when Howie stands on his head like this.

1 pointI have NHL Gamecenter Live and watch all the teams - so I hear all the announcers. Of course, I hear Ken and Mickey more than any others because I am first and foremost a Wings fan. I can say this with confidence: on the scale of 1 to 10, wiith 10 being a complete homer and 1 being completely unbiased - Ken and Mickey are definitely close to low end. With NHL Gamecenter Live, you can choose either team's annoucer feed. One thing I like to do is compare what the announcers say on controversial plays. There are some announcers who virtually never go against their own team on a controversial call. But Ken and Mickey do it all the time. Case in point: the "illegal head shot" Backes layed on Huskins. From the second it happened, Ken and Mickey said it was a bad call.

Do We Really Need a New Stadium?
Frozen-Man reacted to GMRwings1983 for a post in a topic
I'm a sucker for history, so I wish they'd keep it. There's plenty of sporting venues around the world that have been around since the beginning of the last century. The JLA isn't even close to the age those buildings are. -

Do We Really Need a New Stadium?
Dabura reacted to GoWings1905 for a post in a topic
I'm not entirely opposed to the Red Wings staying at JLA as I enjoy going there, but in all honesty it's quite inadequate as a sporting venue. Besides the sight lines and memories in the building, there aren't many other redeeming qualities. I go to sporting events for the product itself, though the total package is nice considering the cost to attend. The Joe is a dump inside. The lack of restrooms, crowded and unappealing concourse, uncomfortable seats for us tall humans and there's nothing around the arena either. Everyone walks out through the same exit, so it takes 15 minutes to even get out of there after the game. As has been mentioned, the area around Comerica Park, Ford Field and the Fox Theatre is better developed. Building a new arena there makes a lot of sense. I agree with the throwaway premise of society and generally these new venues come at some cost to the taxpayers as well. I don't think moving for the sake of it is desirable. However, in this case, the Red Wings genuinely need a new arena to play their home games. -

A) Can someone help me out here? Wasn't there a troll here with almost he same name that annoyed us to no end back before the July 2012 signing bonanza? B) How exactly is your argument any different for these guys than it is for other NHL prospects? You can make the same argument for any prospect who fails to crack the NHL in his draft year. Datsyuk didn't play in the NHL as an 18 year old, so surely he wasn't anything special, right? Or are you just an ass? (Pro tip: the correct answer is the latter) -
1 pointThis happened to me last year. I went to a game, and a bunch of the kids i wanted to see were up in Detroit. I had to watch Conklin get beat up by an AHL team.

General thoughts: this team, its future, the league...
FlashyG reacted to Drake_Marcus for a post in a topic
The Wings currently have the top defenseman in the QMJHL and the top dman in the OHL (and the only dman that was able to keep up with Dougie Hamilton in points per game this year before he left for the NHL). They also have one of the top defensive prospects in the SEL.
