Kronwalled: when your ass crumbles under the pressure of trying to replace a legendary defensemen and all you can do is lead your team in the “-“ category and make stupid plays.

Datsyukian When your moves are so amazing beyond reason, the only way to describe them is datsyukian. (deke, juke, dangle) Origin: From the Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk, who has the best hands and moves in all of sports. Example: Joey cut left with the football and made James fall flat on his face, what a datsyukian deke. Check out Phil on the dance floor,he's amazing, he sure has some datsyukian dance moves. Jorge put Danny in checkmate with a great datsukian move!

If I was lucky enough to go to a Wings game and Babcock didn't screw around with the lines long enough to have those guys in the top 6, I would have no choice to stand up in the middle of the Joe and let everyone take a look at my pants tent that is a direct result of those lines destroying the other team.

Signing Suter and Parise to those riDICKulous contracts is probably the biggest mistake the Wild ever made.

So aside from bringing in Perry (which we can't do till he's ufa anyways) what have you done? Gotten rid of our #1 goalie for some reason, and brought up another 2 ahl'ers from the griffins? glad you aren't gm

I think Filppula is more valueable to this team than Franzen. So there. Good luck finding someone to take on a lifetime contract given to someone for one good playoff season.

Biggest mistake Red Wings have done

You listed a lot there, and some of them go further back and are good examples. I think the Krupp situation is a good example of a "mistake", at least in retrospect. Of course, poaching a 6'6" right-handed defenseman from your bitter rival probably seemed like a great idea at the time. He had missed a good amount of time previously due to injury, but predicting the whole thing with the dog sledding while he was supposed to be rehabbing (and the grievance) would have been hard to foresee. http://blog.mlive.com/its-just-sports/2009/07/best_of_the_worst_red_wings_no_9.html But the "failing to have a Lidstrom succession plan" one, which you are far from the only person to suggest, just makes me chuckle because you CAN'T find another Lidstrom, and it's not like having 2 "good" defenseman is the same as having 1 "elite" one that logs 25 minutes a game and virtually never screws up (not to mention quarterbacking the power play). Plus, unless you're talking about Chris Pronger, Scott Niedermayer, or Zdeno Chara, it's really pretty hard to find examples of defenseman that are so impactful you could basically plug them into any team and have an instant defensive powerhouse. No better example of that right now than what is happening with Ryan Suter in Minnesota. I was among the people who really wanted him here, but it turns out that when your partner is Tom Gilbert instead of Shea Weber, suddenly your defense doesn't look as stellar. The problem the Wings had with replacing the defensive corps is the same they have all over the team. Other than Suter, there really was no "free agency" fix for a top-tier defenseman in the offseason. You could argue that Holland should have traded for one, but since the Red Wings rarely have draft picks above the 20th pick, it's not like the Red Wings have elite caliber prospects like a Hodgson or Kassian that you see swapped around for considerable value before their careers have taken off (in that case, they were swapped for each other). If the Wings are lucky enough to develop the next Datsyuk or Zetterberg, that won't be apparent to the league until they're already proven pros, at which point we'd probably want to keep that player. And even though the Wings seem to trade their 1st rounder basically every other year, it's almost a guaranteed low first rounder, so the returns are more like Kyle Quincey than Jonas Brodin or Victor Hedman. Nobody doubts that the defense is a problem, but to call it a "mistake" seems a bit unfair, or unrealistic.

I'm just happy that when Detroit plays Columbus at Nationwide it isn't 95% Red Wings fans. I think we've gotten it down to like 80%, haha Oh well, at least I have a good humor about it.

I really wish you'd share some of that weed you smoke... Fippula is 29 years old...what you see is what you get...if playing with Pavel Datsyuk doesn't turn you into a prolific scorer, nothing will. Don't get me wrong, I like Flip, but for anyone to think we're going to get anything of significant value for him is living in a dream land...We have a thousand injuries and Nyquist can't stick with the big club, and yet someone is going to give us a top 2 dman or top 6 scorer for Flip,a UFA, Nyquist and a pick?

Im just going to say it...I would be very surprised if we made the playoffs this year. I think Holland knew what was up, before the injuries, when he said we might not make the playoffs. The breakdown: Our defense is terrible. Quincey is useless and was officially a waste of that pick. We are arguably better off with Lashoff full time over Quincey. Kronwall is a #2 guy and has too much pressure on him. Ericsson, while not his classically terrible self, instills next to no confidance in me for any kind of playoff type worth. White, Kindl, Huskins, Carlo are all generic filler, depth defenseman. Kronwall and Smith are the only two defenseman we have that I have any confidance in. Howard is overworked, and while he is underrated, I think he's going to get shelled this year. He has to be yelling "Nick! Where are you?!"...Like a toddler cries for his Mom. Injuries, while seemingly never good, might actually give Holland some perspective. I personally think, maybe somewhat in hindsight, that it may have been better to not have signed Samuelsson anyway. Some of Bertuzzi, Eaves, Miller, and Emmerton could and should have been sent packing as Nyquist, Tatar, and probably even Andersson are ready for full time duties. So with the injuries, Holland gets to see that those guys bring more than thier older, less skilled counterparts. Other rantings: Franzen might frustrate more than he's worth...to bad we have him locked up for life. Filppula probably needs to be traded while other teams still think he's going to be awesome one day. I can't see how replacing him with Nyquist in a near throwaway season would hurt too many feelings. Filpulla should bring a pretty nice return from a playoff team. Highlights: Brunner is way better than I expected and is a legitimate asset to the future of this team. Mrazek keeps on surprising. Zetterberg is on fire and Datsyuk seems to get better with age.

    Jordin Tootoo

So much hate without any logic. What a quality read. Really don't know how to reply to that so I'll just list some bullet points. 1) Tootoo is one of the best middleweight fighters in the league without a doubt. He's also one of the hardest hitters in the league, without a doubt. Anyone who knows their stuff on this subject, which judging by your post isn't you, will back this up. Tootoo was almost unanimously voted the best fighter under 6 foot recently on hockeyfights.com 2) You say he's a defensive liability yet he has the 8th highest +/- on the team and the most of anyone on the bottom 2 lines. 3) He has one minor penalty in 16 games. Your argument of dumb penalties is ridiculous. 4) You seem angry that Ken+Micky and 90% of hockey fans enjoy a good fight. Good. We do and don't care you don't. 5) You seem to be confusing Tootoo with an enforcer but clearly you're talking about a subject you know little about. Middleweights have not been, nor ever will be, enforcers. Bored now.

time to bring Nyquist back up, and put Tatar, Flip, and Nyquist on a line together!

Aside from the first win over St. Louis, the good game against Chicago, and the subsequent win over Dallas, every other win we have was largely the result of huge individual efforts. Thank god we've got a couple of guys who can win a game all by themselves because if not, we'd be in real bad shape right about now.

I wish I had a replay of Pavel that entire game. It was a rare effort, even for him. Every time he touched the puck last night, my jaw dropped. As good as that play was, its crazy to think he made 3-5 more plays of that same caliber or better throughout the night. He had a definite "f*** this, we're winning tonight" swagger about him every shift. Unfortunately, he was stuck with two 4th liners for 20+ minutes.

When he goes to Russia after his current contract is up, we're going to be hurting like you wouldn't believe. Trust that. One of the best players to ever wear the uniform. I'm talking up there with Howe, Lindsay, Delvecchio, Yzerman.....the list goes on.

    Howard = Average

It depends how much Howard wants. With the way he's been playing as of late I'd let him walk unless he wanted less than $3 million per year.

    Holland looking around

People were saying the same things back in 06. Nyquist hasn't had much of an opportunity to show what he can do. He has only played 12:22 in 2 games this yr., 10:35 in 18 games last year and 8:51 in 4 playoff games last year. His Points Per Minute played last year are identical to Datsyuk's in his rookie yr and Datsyuk was older than Nyquist is now. Datsyuk scored a point every 27.2 minutes played and Nyquist scored one every 27.1 mins played (which is actually better than O'Reilly who scored a point every 28.7 mins scored last year). When you play more usually scoring goes up at higher rate than mins played because of confidence, momentum and being a more important part of the team. I watched Nyquist a lot with the Griffs and he will be a star and maybe even a great player if he works as hard as Datsyuk and Zetterberg did at their deficiencies. When the Griffs played the Barons the Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan line totally shut down the Barons NHL line of Eberle, Hall, and Paajaarvi as well as Justin Schultz while being dangerous offensively. They totally dominated them. Schultz did manage a PP goal late in the game with Eberle getting an assist but the score was already 5-1 and Nyquist and Tatar weren't on the ice. .

Biggest mistake Red Wings have done

If these are what we are considering mistakes then I'm pretty sure I won't lose any sleep tonight over them. Been a fan for 20 years and we have won 4 cups in that time and we are questioning the over protective loyalty of this franchise? Loyalty of any sort is almost impossible to find these days..maybe we need more of it?
