Wow, some of the comments here and elsewhere are really low. While I'm not expecting anybody to be losing sleep over an injury to another team's star player, celebrating the pain anybody goes through with that kind of injury is rotten. Sports really brings out the worst in people, especially those shielded by the anonymity of the Internet. From what I'm reading, Crosby did not need to get his jaw wired shut. That's significant because it means he should be able to get back to solid foods earlier than someone who required that procedure. Athletes in particular who go through that tend to lose weight and strength, which sets back their recovery even further. Hopefully Crosby recovers in time for the playoffs. I, for one, prefer to watch hockey with its best players active.

Brunner hasn't hit the wall. He has slammed into it.

I think the travel has more to do with it than anything. Mickey Redmond commented on this a few weeks ago. I think Brunner told him the farthest he had to travel to a road game was less than an hour. They don't have to deal with the drastic time zone changes either in the Swiss League. I know everyone thinks it's easy and oh, they get paid a lot, so they should just suck it up, but try flying all night, losing 3 hours, sleeping in a strange place, then having to play in a hockey game. I think it's far more difficult than it appears.

Sammy and Coliacovo would get hurt playing in juggernaught armor

I'm not worried. It's not a lack of effort, he just needs to learn the game. His talent is there, he is a great skater, and the shot is top notch. He's also better than I thought he would be passing the puck. He just over thinks the game too much, and he makes some really bad decisions defensively. He is really raw when it comes to that part of the game, but he has never stopped skating or anything like that. So I definitely think his game will develop with time. Once he starts to understand the game he'll create more offensive opportunities for himself by creating turnovers. His hot start had a lot to do with everyone around him playing well, once Zetterberg fell off he's game went right with him. And Brunner's not at the level yet where he can create his own scoring chances. The good news is he won't get a big deal, that kinda scared me in the beginning of the year when he was close to the goal scoring lead. Now hopefully we sign him to a couple year deal, and have a steal of a player once his game develops.

    Mr Holland.....

Would have been way better with Dekeyser, Brunner and a drafted player.

    Mr Holland.....

And the problem with trading is to find someone who will. In the West some teams won't trade with us because we still may meet them in the playoffs while some teams in the east won't trade with us because we will face them next season in our new division. And even if they will the price would be significantly higher than usual. It is the worst time to trade for the Red Wings, it will get better when the season is over. Stick with the tools we have and make some moves during the offseason, in which the new CBA will also help us.

That was a dive by Crosby.

Edited the thread title to be less obnoxious. I understand not liking Crosby, but celebrating that he got hit in the face with the puck is lame.

you know he played like 33 games overseas before the lockout ended right?

    Teams in 2013 Salary Crunch

Franzen should be bought out. Why? To send a message that you can have all the talent in the world, but if you take entire games off, you have no place on the team.

I'm not at all concerned. This is pretty common with European players. It would have been tough in a regular season, but with the condensed schedule and all the travel, I pretty much expected this. Seems like most Europeans come over and light it up the first few weeks, and then the travel and physical nature of the game sets in. If they're truly talented, which I think Brunner is, they adjust. Look at how many times in the past month the Wings have gone West. The constant time changes, games at night, early afternoon, early evening. I imagine that can totally mess up your body and your mind.

    Mr Holland.....

Are you keeping track of his season thus far? He has been horrific. He has zero goals, a feat matched on the Sharks only by a grinder who has a whopping seven goals in his three seasons with the Sharks. Clowe has been ineffective, slow, and lacking in intensity. He is this season's Scott Gomez. No thanks.

    Lindy Ruff an option?

So what's your idea? Bomb for a few seasons so we can get the best players through the draft? Do you realize that the Wings have had trouble loading with talent lately because of the lack of superstar draft picks? I swear, some fans of this team have a horribly spoiled, entitled, "have my cake and eat it too" attitude. They expect the Cup every year, and if the team doesn't make it at least deep into the playoffs, they complain as if they are being robbed of something they deserve. It's awful that the team's long stretch of success has rendered some fans unable to appreciate that success at all. Guess what? In the parity era, we're going to have the same set of disadvantages that the salary cap bestows upon every other team.

    1. i think he has been conditioned by the "no hit league" for too long. 2. the NHL has got a look at him and they play him close. 3. top it off with a dose of too many games in close quarters, and team lacking desire... = "you get what we got here today, i dont like it any more than you like it" off season conditioning...he will be up for it next year.

Except Holland knew that Hossa was injured and wasn't at his peak in the playoffs. They let go of the last person to score 40 goals for the Wings for a guy who takes whole weeks off from doing anything relevant.

    Mr Holland.....

I disagree, I think Abby, Miller, Eaves, Emmy, and even Cleary all bust their asses. Unfortunately, they're all expected to fulfill roles on this team that their skill sets don't allow for. Cleary should be a third line winger, Abby a fourth line center, Miller and Eaves fourth line wingers, and Emmy as the 13 forward. Relying on anything more than that is going to get exposed pretty badly against teams with actual depth. This is exactly correct. This is also why I don't really get mad at these players. It's not there fault that there being put into positions they simply just can't fill. This is directly holland and babcocks fault. Why was Samuelson brought in? Tatar and nyquist can both fill that role better, cheaper, and will also grow because they are young. Also that 3M cap hit is saved an can be stalked up to bring in a shooter to play with pavel. Babcock is to fault too. He's in love with guys like cleary, Sammy, miller, etc. guys like nyquist and Tatar are brought up and stuck on the bottom lines??? These are offensive guys throw them into the top six and I guarantee with a little time they will produce like top 6 players

Awful kneejerk post. Fans from around the league will tell you the Babcock is one of the best in the business. Despite being given a very average roster and a ridiculous load of injuries, the team is in playoff contention.

Ah yes, more incorrect number stroking. He's not the leading "scorer" in the league, Stamkos is, unless you can win games with assists. Are you his mom or something? esteef

What? How do we not at the very least get Claude Giroux for a prize like Huskins! Get Ray Shero over here!!
