Tootoo is a better hockey player than Cleary in every facet of the game. I am well aware of Cleary playing on the PP/PK but he is still just a blackhole of talent. He makes anyone on his line worse.

Yes. That definitely would have made this situation better.

2012 were somewhat honest mistakes if you can call them that. The Wings had cap space and open roster spots, they lost their top 2 defensemen and missed out on the two big fish in the free agent pond and they were left scrambling and coming off a first round playoff loss. While I wasn't in favor of the Samulesson signing at all, I could see where he was coming from, trying to find a point man for the 2nd pp unit, and a "devil he knew". Same with Tootoo. He wasn't what I had in mind, but I could see the thought process behind it. 2013 was a totally different story. He went and signed Drew Miller to a long term deal, despite having his twin Patrick Eaves already under contract for under a million. Then he went on to sign Alfredsson, Weiss and Cleary while knowing there wasn't roster or cap space, and did nothing to address it in the offseason, and still hasn't almost a quarter of the way into the season. He did nothing about the lack of a puck moving defenseman/point man on the PP and the lack of depth. So now are the Wings going to be going through a waiver thing, switching this guy or that guy onto IR, just to make the cap limit? A little competition isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when you have so many guys not knowing from day to day what their status is, it seems like its not going to create the best atmosphere. Just because Holland has made many good moves over the years doesn't mean he's above criticism when he doesn't make good moves.

This would have nothing to do with a one-way or two-way contract. A two-way (NHL/AHL) contract means a player gets paid one salary in the NHL and another (smaller) in the AHL. Players in the AHL on a one-way NHL contract get paid the same salary they would make in the NHL.

Tootoo being waived whilst Samuelsson and Cleary remain on this team is a travesty. A travesty made in the office of one Ken Holland.

I really hate this move. Pisses me off that Cleary and Sammy get a free pass, while they offer nothing to the team. Toots plays his ass off every second he gets. Cleary is #1 in the league at falling on his ass, and Sammy is just sitting on the bench counting his money. I don't understand this decision at all.

If Jimmy and/or JGus are able to start, there's no sense having Mrazak sitting on the bench getting rusty. It's good that he is getting some playing time now. He'll surely be up full time when JGus moves on at the end of this year. Coreau seems to be another "real deal". Assuming Howard stays healthy, we'll have three good goalies if both Mrazek and Coreau pan out. Unfortunately, once both are out of waiver options, one will have to go. Bring Coreau up allows the Wings to get a good look at both of them now and allows them to compete with each other for the spot. Since one will eventually have to be traded, we might as well showcase both so that when the time comes to trade one or the other, we'll know which we want to keep and will get the best return on the other. Ideally, both will put on such a great show that it will be a tough decision and LGW will go ballistic no matter which one we trade away.

I keep coming back here hoping to see that someone has picked him up. Not because I don't like Tootoo, but because I'd love the cap relief.

How bad was the 2012 summer for Holland? Samuelsson is a three million dollar healthy scratch, Tootoo gets waived, Colaiacovo already bought out and Brunner is with another team. That's brutal and unfortunately still costing the Red Wings now in roster and cap space. Bringing Cleary back only furthered the issue. I hope Eaves sticks around over Samuelsson. Eaves is a good 4th liner and penalty killer. Another body has to go for Nyquist to come up, which I assume is the ultimate goal here soon.

I really question Holland sometimes...why even re-sign Cleary, I mean really? Tootoo is way more important to this club than Cleary OR Sammy... btw, who is Tootoo being moved for? Is Eaves on his way back in? Who is in?

If I was as drunk as he appears, judging by the look on his face, I would almost certainly have done the same thing. That's why I don't drink very often. I'm a lot of fun up to a point.

NHL14 is good therapy for me for this. First thing I do in GM mode is get rid of these 3 and Franzen. Feels good
